Do you have clearly defined written goals? Researchshows that those people who actually sit down and write outtheir goals not only end up achieving them, but have greaterincomes and elevated perceived success and satisfaction.Many people think setting goals is just for managers or busi-ness owners. Not so!

Mark McCormack, in his book What They Don't TeachYou at Harvard Business School, tells of a Harvard study con-ducted between 1979 and 1989. In 1979, the graduates of theMBA program were asked, "Have you set clear, written goalsfor your future and made plans to accomplish them?" Itturned out that only 3 percent of the graduates had writtengoals and plans. Thirteen percent had goals, but not in writing- 84 percent had no specific goals at all.

Ten years later researchers found that the 3 percent of grad-uates who had clear, written goals when they left Harvardwere earning, on average, 10 times as much as the other 97percent of graduates all together.

FACT: All successful people have goals, and outstanding

high achievers have clearly defined written goals.

So why do so few people actually write out their goals?

Many people say they can't be bothered to take the time tosit and write them out, preferring to keep them in their heads.The real reasons are probably deeper, involving the fact thatif goals are kept in the head, they are easy to change, reviseand ignore. This avoids personal accountability. Looking fur-ther into the reasons, we find the following:

1. First, most people don't realize the importance of goals.

Setting goals is a habit and a matter of ATTITUDE - Yours...Start NOW! Your ability to set and achieve goals will havemore of an effect on your life than any other talent.

2. They don't know how to set goals.

Some people confuse goals with dreams and wishes. A goal isdifferent. Successful goals meet the following criteria:Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistically high (youhave to stretch to get there) and Time specific. Of course theymust be written and harmonious to what you want from life.

3. They have a fear of failure.

If goals aren't written down, we can change them to matchwhat is actually achieved without having to face any feelings

of failure. No one will ever know!

4. They have a fear of rejection.

People don't set clear, written goals because they fear theywill be seen by others as ridiculous if they fail. They don'twant to face criticism or be seen as incapable. With the excep-tion of sharing your goals with your coach or a trusted peer,you may want to keep your goals private.

Once you have aligned your goals with your life purpose, youwill find them easier to accomplish. A professionally trainedbusiness coach is an expert at helping you to achieve whatyou want. Whether you are celebrating Chanukah, Christmas orFestivis we are all about to embark on an eating frenzy. And, asLouis Prima once sang “... grab yourself a platter anddig,dig,dig, right in”. This is definitely not the time to worryabout calories, that's what New Years resolutions are for.

I remember when I was in Paris one year at Christmas time,walking down rue de St. Honore with all the pastry shop windowsfilled to the brim with the most gorgeous cakes and tarts andmarzipan. Then, stopping at Angelina's Salon de The for a bowlof hot chocolate that was so dense the spoon practically stood upin the bowl. And, if that weren't enough it was served with asmall bowl of fresh whipped cream! Between the tartlettes andthe chocolates and marzipan, I must have consumed five poundsof fat in one day!! Yum,Yum.

Since mostly no restaurant were open on Christmas, my sisterand I decided to purchase food and drink the day before andenjoy our own “dinner” on the balcony of our hotel room. Wepurchased a kilo of fois gras from Les Trois Cochon, a pan deraison from Lenotre along with a chestnut tartlette and a mag-num of Tattinger. What a spectacular meal we had indeed. Ihighly recommend to spend Christmas in Paris if you get theopportunity. I have pretty much stuck to that menu except nowa-days, I purchase a kilo of fois gras and the pan de rasion fromour local french bakery that has it flown in. They make lovely tartlettes as well, and of course a bottle of Tattinger.

I hope you all enjoy your favorite holiday meals as I will. Andremember the New Year will wipe away all your sins of overindulgence!!!

I am providing you with a recipe for cranberry bread thismonth as we all probably have a can or two of cranberriesfloating around and or that half a bag leftover fromThanksgiving. I like to make small loaves and give them asgifts and freeze some to have ready for a quick appetizer.

I make mini sandwiches that I fill with either turkey andcheese or ham and cheese and slather them with honey mus-tard. They go down great with a nice glass of champagne.Leftovers are great toasted for breakfast with butter or creamcheese.

Food

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Coat 2 (8x4) or 6 mini loaf pans

with cooking spray or line with parchment

Combine dry ingredients in a bowl.

Combine and blend wet ingredients until smooth.

Add dry mixture to wet and stir just till combined.

Fold in nuts. Pour into bans and bake for about 45min for

large loaves or 25-30 min for mini loaves. Rotate half way

through and test with toothpick. When toothpick comes out

clean they are done. Cool till you can handle the pans and

turn them out onto a rack to cool completely.

Pick a green kitchen countertop material when you remodel your kitchen.

What’s green?

Green kitchen countertops feature recycled or sustainable content, low-toxicitybinders, eco-friendly manufacturing processes, or a combination. Local production

is good, too, if you can arrange it, because transporting countertops is a big fuel-guzzler.

But the most important thing is to pick something durable—if you never have to buy

new countertops again, that's as green as it gets. These three green kitchen counter-

top options earn high marks for durability and style. And for value, compare them to

the ubiquitous slab granite, which costs $60 to $100 per sq.ft.

1. Recycled paper countertops

Cost Starts at $30/sq ft

And, easy install = labor savings

Lifespan TBD because new on the scene, but likely a long time.

It may seem counterintuitive to use paper for a countertop, but when you bind paper

fibers with resin, it makes a surface that's tough as nails. What's more, they tend to

be easy to install. Since installation can equal 80% of your total cost, expect to save

on labor. PaperStone is a brand that meets Forest Stewardship Council certification

requirements for materials made with sustainable forest management practices and is

VOC-free.

Squak Mountain Stone is made from recycled paper, recycled glass, reclaimed fly

ash, and cement; the finished countertop slabs resemble limestone and soapstone.

EcoTop countertops consist of renewable bamboo fiber, post-consumer recycled

paper, and water-based resin glue.

2. Reclaimed wood countertops

Lifespan Lifetime

Reuse trumps recycling when it comes to conserving resources because it keeps prod-

ucts from entering the waste stream. So salvaged wood countertops are green by def-

inition. Purchase them directly at a local salvage supply or through a manufacturer

that uses reclaimed materials. Starting at $40 per sq.ft., manufactured countertops

made from reclaimed wood are typically more expensive than regular butcher block.

Wood’s a beauty. But it’s prone to water damage, needs occasional re-sealing (or fre-

quent applications of mineral oil, which can be a hassle), and shouldn't be installed

directly next to a sink or dishwasher. So you'll need to budget for a second material

to use in your kitchen.

Craft-Art includes a line of wood countertops made of reclaimed wood from older

barns, warehouses, and commercial buildings.

Endurawood fashions wood countertops from reclaimed fir and oak, including old

wine vats.

3. Recycled glass countertops

Recycled glass is gorgeous and tough (you can actually set hot pots directly on it) but

you'll pay a price comparable to slab granite, starting at around $50 per sq.ft. and

going much higher.

Vetrazzo makes countertops that are 85% recycled glass. Almost all the glass comes

from curbside recycling programs.

IceStone, which is 100% recycled glass in a cement substrate, meets Cradle to Cradle

gold certification standards, meaning the products contain no problematic chemicals,

the materials can be reutilized, and 50% of manufacturing was done with reusable

energy.

Green Kitchen Remodeling TipsTurn your kitchen remodel bright green with these six

resource-conserving tips.

1. Salvage nontraditional items for new kitchen storage.

Reuse is the gold standard for green remodeling, and a little creativity goes a longway. Banks of old school lockers or lab cabinets, for example, are a hot salvageitem for retro-flavored kitchen storage.

2. Reuse stuff from your old kitchen.

Take a hard look to see if there are things you can keep—appliances, cabinets,hardware, faucets, and sinks are all candidates for reuse or refurb rather thanreplacement. A caveat: Don't keep any faucet purchased before 1997, because it'slikely to contain some lead. And dispense with any appliances more than 10 yearsold. Energy Star appliances are leaps and bounds ahead of their ancestors in termsof energy-efficiency.

3. Install an under-the-counter water purifier.

These have about 10 times the filtering capacity of a faucet-mounted purifier. Amodel with a top-quality activated carbon filter will remove heavy metals, bacteria,and pesticides—not to mention odors and bad tastes. Expect to pay $150 to $200for an activated charcoal purifier with a replaceable cartridge, which is peanutscompared with the total remodel and easy to do while the project is under way.

4. Don't forget energy-efficient lighting.

Fluorescent and compact fluorescent lamps use up to 75% less energy than compa-rable incandescent lamps. In fact, according to EnergyStar.gov, a single CFL bulbwill save $30 to $40 during its expected lifespan of 10,000 hours. But make sureyou keep task areas well-lit: Consider efficient halogen and LED lighting sourcesanywhere you're planning to chop veggies or measure ingredients. Or plan a sky-light overhead--the sun's still free.

Head north and at Orlando make a turn

to the west coast. We did this in July

and had a fantastic trip. True, there

were not to many manatee’s there at

that time, but we managed to see 5

while

we

were

puttering around

on the pontoon

boat we had

rented. You can

book a charter,

but there was

only four of us

and we didn’t want to be in a big group. If you can

captain a boat, the pontoon boats are a great way

to relax and explore not only looking for manatees, but you can make your way to

some beautiful springs. At that time we did not wear wetsuits....it was cold at first

but once in the water if felt great. Until you get to the springs. Then it’s cold...but

worth it! This time of year you have to wear wet suits, the water is too cold to just

jump in. We stayed at Plantation on Crystal River, but there are other hotels in the

area to spend a couple of nites.

This is the time of year to see many manatee’s...also many rivers to rent canoes

and explore the wildlife in the Kings Bay region. Google Crystal River for more
