Despite not having the budget nor the

On Saturday, Conners could again attempt

to defy the odds with his two-year-old Shocking

“I have also got her in at Kembla on

the same day, so I will try and weigh up where we head. It will depend on

what barrier draw we get,” Conners said yesterday.

“She had a trial the other day (on the Warwick Farm Pro Ride track last

Thursday) and she did it easily when they ran very fast time.

“She ran second, beaten a head, so if your horse is going all right you

have to give them a run to see what they are capable of.”

A relative cheapie from the Inglis Classic sale for Conners at $30,000

    - about a third of the auction average - Shocking Force was bred by Neil

Osborne at Mane Lodge. She is out of Little Shocker (Shocking), a half-

sister to the stakes-placed Capital Commander (Commands) and two-

year-old stakes-placed filly Little Favours (Falvelon).

Conners stepped Shocking Force out at the official two-year-old

    barrier trial session

    at Randwick on

    September 21 where

    she finished fourth to

    Vaccine (Not A Single

    Doubt) before the filly

    was sent for a short

    spell.

    “She’s not very big

    and she’d had enough.

I had this race in mind, so I couldn’t keep her going. I gave her a bit of a

break for a few weeks and here we are,” Conners said.

“At the sales, I just thought she was a speedy-looking filly and she’s by

a new sire who is a very well-performed horse overseas.

“I liked the horse as an individual and she wasn’t dear, so that is how

    we ended up with her.”

Jay Ford has been booked to ride Shocking Force if Conners does elect

to run her in the Inglis Nursery, a rich sales-restricted two-year-old race.

Late last year, Conners sold his Victory Lodge complex near Warwick

Farm and moved his horses into stables occupied by his trainer-son Marc.

The move has coincided with a change of fortunes for Conners Sr, who has

prepared 12 winners from his past 50 runners.

He said: “I am with my son Marc and I think he’s had a big influence

on where the stable’s going. We spend a bit more time together, but I also

have more time to plan where horses should be racing.

“Placing horses where they’ve got the best advantages is a bit of a trick,

so I have got more time to do that and Marc spends more time at the stables.”

Conners has trained four winners of the Golden Slipper (Gr 1, 1200m),

an Australian Oaks (Gr 1, 2400m), an Australian Derby (Gr 1, 2400m) and

Australian Derby (Gr 1, 2400m) winner, in addition to claiming a host of

feature races in Melbourne during an illustrious career.

However, he does not like the current racing landscape even though

prize-money in NSW is at record levels.

New venue for Magic Millions TasmaniaQuercus Park will host the 2021 Tasmanian

Magic Millions Yearling Sale on Monday,

    February 22, Tasbreeders announced yesterday.

Quercus Park, Carrick, the home of Agfest, take

over from Inveresk Showgrounds in hosting the

sale and Tasbreeders will partner with Tasracing

and Rural Youth Tasmania to put on the event.

The yearling sale, which will begin at 12 noon

and takes place the day after a feature raceday in

    Launceston, boasts a 122-lot catalogue, with 51

sires and the crops of seven first season stallions

included. “Tasbreeders is excited to partner with

Rural Youth Tasmania and the Quercus Park site,”

    said Tasbreeders president David Manshanden.

“This is a major event for the Tasmanian racing

industry and the facilities and infrastructure at

Quercus Park allows us to have a sale in 2021.

With recent graduates including Mystic Journey,

Palentino, The Cleaner and Soul Patch, it’s

easy to understand why the sale is statistically

the best return on investment yearling sale in

Australasia.” On a long-term plan for the venue of

future Tasmanian Magic Millions Yearling Sales,

Manshanden added: “After the completion of

the 2021 sale, Tasbreeders, Tasracing and Magic

Millions will then be undertaking a strategic

review on the location of a long-term site, which

will include Quercus Park as an option.”

Cox to play role in Melbourne Cup reviewVictoria Racing Club director and Godolphin

Australia managing director Vin Cox is among a

list of experts who will provide an independent

viewpoint as part of Racing Victoria’s

International Injury Review, which is focussed

on minimising the occurrence of serious

    injuries among international horses. Champion

trainer Chris Waller and veterinarian Dr David

Sykes will also play a key part in the review. The

fatality report of Anthony Van Dyck (Galileo) is

being reviewed, as well as the broader issue of

injuries among international horses who have

been trained out of the Werribee International

Horse Centre during the past decade. Any

recommendations from the review are expected

to be presented to the RV Board for consideration

in the first quarter of 2021. RV CEO, Giles

Thompson, said: “As we have consistently stated,

no stone will be left unturned to consider why

the fatality of Anthony Van Dyck occurred with

a comprehensive fatality report well underway.

We are conscious that the Melbourne Cup is

not the only race internationals run in and that

is why we are looking at the wider international

experience as part of the broader review so that

we can reduce the rate of serious injuries among

international horses in the future.” He added: “We

are committed to seeing the review completed

as soon as is practicable and well in time for the

2021 spring racing carnival, however more than

simply collating information and opinions from

experts in Australia and around the world, it is the

working group’s analysis of available data that will

be critical to develop a genuine understanding of

    the challenges to be overcome.”

In-form Wilde sets sights on MillionsSymon Wilde is set to make his debut at next

month’s Magic Millions sales as he prepares to

ramp-up his buying activities in 2021. The in-

form trainer, who recently saddled Allibor (All

Too Hard) and Count Zero (Red) to high-profile

victories, is planning to spend more time on the

sales circuit in the new year. "I might head up to

the Magic Millions this year and see if we can

do a bit of business," Wilde told Racing.com.

"I've never even been but I've had a few people

suggest it might be a good idea to get up there

this summer. I've got a really good foreman in

Liam Hoy here and some excellent staff, so that

will allow me to get out and do the sales circuit

and we'll see what we can find. It's been a great

couple of months and that's largely because

we've got a great set-up now. We've got the sand

track and the paddocks, the pool, treadmill

and everything you need. It's been a ten-year

process, but we like to think it's all starting to

pay off now. We've always bought at the lower

end (of the market) but we don't particularly

aim for that," he added. "I enjoy the stayers, but

the only reason we have a lot of stayers is they

are the ones that we think we can afford.”

Fabergino and Robertson ready to head homeWestern Australian trainer Tiarnna Robertson

    and Caulfield Sprint (Gr 2, 1000m) runner-up

Fabergino (Maschino) will end their stay in

Victoria following the Living Legends Sprint

(1000m) at Flemington on Saturday. In between

the six-year-old mare’s Caulfield Sprint run, she

finished unplaced in the AJ Moir Stakes (Gr 1,

1000m) and the Darley Sprint Classic (Gr 1,

1200m). Robertson suffered a broken leg just

before the Darley Sprint, but has been given

clearance to fly home following Fabergino’s

run on Saturday. "I'm getting there, slow and

steady," Robertson told Racing.com of the

injury. "It's been very good (to be told I can fly

home with the borders opening). I'm up and

about and semi-moving around. It will be good

to get home and have a look at the rest of the

team." Of Fabergino, Robertson added: “She is

going well and she looks really happy in herself.

She's appreciated having a bit longer between

runs. If you look at her form, she's always been

a really good fresh horse. We condensed her

prep thinking we would only be over here for a

short time. Now we have extended our stay, it's

probably going to be of benefit for her."

Van Overmeire given Strawb challengeApprentice jockey Jean Van Overmeire will

ride talented mare Strawb (Fastnet Rock)

in the 1300-metre Benchmark 72 event at

Warwick Farm today. The 26-year-old returned

from a period out with a broken shoulder late

in November and is excited to ride the Nathan

    Doyle-trained Strawb, who was a warm $2.80

favourite last night having won four of her eight

starts. “She’s a nice horse, a lot of people have a

big rap on Strawb and I’m just the lucky recipient

to be on,’’ Van Overmeire told Racing.com. “I’ve

spoken to a few people about her, obviously I’ve

never ridden her, and everyone’s opinion is very

consistent. So I’ll be following the advice, she’s a

pretty quirky horse to ride. I’ve got to get her out

and keep her comfortable. We’ve drawn six and

we should be able to get the run of the race. I’m

hoping she can be my first winner back.”

Russian Camelot in line for two-start autumnDanny O’Brien is planning to give Russian

Camelot (Camelot) only two starts this autumn,

with the All-Star Mile (1600m) at Moonee Valley

in March preceding an appearance in the Queen

Elizabeth Stakes (Gr 1, 2000m) at Randwick on

April 10. Russian Camelot, who was last seen

finishing eighth in the Melbourne Cup (Gr 1,

3200m), is favoured by a shorter trip according

to O’Brien, who also believes the four-year-old

is well-suited to Moonee Valley, citing his Cox

Plate (Gr 1, 2040m) third in October. "He showed

with his Cox Plate run that he's adept at Moonee

Valley, so it's a nice race to aim him for," O'Brien

said. “By aiming for the All-Star Mile it gives us

a bit more time than if we were setting him for

the Australian Cup.” On the Melbourne Cup,

O’Brien added: "He came through the Melbourne

Cup well considering what a tough race it was.”

TAB fixed odds markets have installed Russian

Camelot as an $8 favourite for the $5 million All-

Star Mile, which will be run on March 13.

Starstruck next for She’s AlightJungle Dawn Classic (Listed, 1400m) winner

She’s Alight (Tavistock) will target a Western

Australian treble, with the Starstruck Classic

(Listed, 1600m) on December 19 next in line

for the mare before she steps up in class for

the La Trice Classic (Gr 3, 1800m) in the new

year. “We spelled her soon after an Ascot win

last May and aimed at the carnival,” trainer

Alan Mathews said. “Saturday was her fourth

start since resuming and she’s hit peak form at

the right time for mares races.” Purchased by

bloodstock agent John Chalmers for $65,000

out of the Cambridge Stud draft at the 2017

New Zealand Bloodstock Premier Yearling Sale,

She’s Alight has seven wins to her name from 19

starts, with earnings just shy of $200,000.

Weather key to ShinshintoDavid Murphy is pleased the rain has

materialised ahead of today’s fixture at Ipswich

as his promising Shinshinto (Golden Archer)

lines up in the Class 2 Handicap over 1350

    metres. The four-year-old won a 1400-metre

Class 1 at the Sunshine Coast on August 9

and was turned out for a break following a

disappointing fifth to Rothabye (Rothesay) in a

1600-metre contest at the same venue on August

    30. Shinshinto had his first start this campaign

when finishing a game second behind All To Do

(All Too Hard) over an unsuitable 1000 metres

back at the Sunshine Coast on November 13.

Apprentice Justin Huxtable rode him on that

occasion and has retained the mount this

afternoon, with the Ipswich track rated a Soft

5 as of yesterday. “He's second-up and will go

a lot better this time,” Murphy said. “He wasn't

quite ready when he resumed at the Sunshine

Coast and he’ll be a lot better over this trip. He

likes the sting out of the track to do his best so

I’m hoping there might be some rain coming."

Wyong Magic Millions for GleneaglesGleneagles (Capitalist), a $500,000 yearling

purchase by Wattle Bloodstock’s Peter Twomey,

will be given his chance to qualify for the $2

million Magic Millions 2YO Classic (RL, 1200m)

at the Gold Coast next month. The Trent

    Busuttin and Natalie Young-trained two-year-

old colt, who is owned by Singapore’s Aramco

Racing syndicate, has impressed in jump

outs in Victoria and was sent to NSW where

he won a 735-metre barrier trial at Randwick

yesterday under jockey Tim Clark. The first foal

out of Group 3 winner Scarlet Billows (Street

Boss), Gleneagles is likely to have his first start

in the $200,000 Wyong Magic Millions 2YO

Classic (RL, 1100m) next Wednesday. In heat

    12 yesterday, Gleneagles defeated Cochrane

(Spirit Of Boom) by a long neck with Ovoid

(Exceed And Excel) another half-length away

    in third.

Squillani Park under new ownershipThe new owners of South Australian spelling,

    pre-training and breeding farm Squillani

Park hope to rekindle relationships with the

    thoroughbred industry once they become

accustomed to the Echunga operation. Mother

and daughter Robin and Meghan Dineen

purchased Squillani Park from the estate of the

late Terry Board about seven weeks ago. “It’s

got such great facilities that it seems a shame

for us to have this beautiful property with

only our three or four horses on it,” Meghan

said. “So, we thought we could start with

some spellers. We’ve got a couple of young

warmbloods at the moment whom we bred

specifically with dressage in mind. My mum

previously has played polocrosse and I just had

a little show hack who’s enjoying retirement at

Squillani Park now.” Previously managed by

Kerrie van Tijn, Squillani Park consigned the

highest-priced lot at this year’s Magic Millions

Adelaide Yearling Sale, a colt by Kermadec

(Teofilo), who made $270,000. Van Tijn was

recently appointed as manager of China Horse

Club’s pristine property The Chase in the NSW

    Southern Highlands.

Owners allowed back at SA trackwork and trialsThoroughbred Racing SA (TRSA) has lifted

    three significant Covid-19-related protocols as

the number of active cases continues to reduce

throughout the state. As of today, owners are

permitted at trials, trackwork and jump-outs,

    with each club providing QR check-in codes;

temperature checks are ceasing; and racing

    NEW ZEALAND

Sydney Cup likely for The Chosen OneThe Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman-trained

The Chosen One (Savabeel), who ran third in

the Caulfield Cup (Gr 1, 2400m) and fourth in

the Melbourne Cup (Gr 1, 3200m), will once

again target the Sydney Cup (Gr 1, 3200m)

as his autumn grand final having finished

a neck second behind Etah James (Raise

The Flag) in the lucrative staying prize last

season. “I think the Sydney Cup will probably

be the target race and it is a case of working

backwards and seeing how he is going into it

to see what lead-ins you give him,” Forsman

said. The Chosen One, a six-time winner from

27 outings, could return in the Herbie Dyke

Stakes (Gr 1, 2000m) at Te Rapa in February.

“Murray did mention it as a potential race for

him so he will be nominated. He will tell us

more than anything,” Forsman added. “He is

getting older and sometimes those stallions

as they get older take a bit longer to come up.

He will carry a bit more weight in the Sydney

Cup this year, and that will be a factor, but

he probably deserves it. He has performed

well, and you would like to think the Sydney

Cup will be a tier or two below what he was

    competing against in Melbourne.”

Group 3 ride for PinnApprentice Wiremu Pinn, who recently returned

to race-riding for the third time, will have the

chance to showcase his talents in the saddle

when he partners Samina Bibi (Reliable Man)

in the Eulogy Stakes (Gr 3, 1660m) at Awapuni

on Saturday. Trained by Shaune Ritchie and

Colm Murray, Samina Bibi was an impressive

winner of a Te Rapa maiden first-up, scooting

two and a quarter lengths clear of a 12-strong

field, and lightweight Pinn will retain the ride at

the weekend. “I think she is a very good horse.

She is definitely one to watch out for,” he said.

Pinn is apprenticed to his good friend and rising

Matamata trainer Daniel Miller and the 22-year-

old, who has ridden three winners from 39 rides

since his return, is pleased to be back riding

having quit the sport in February 2019. “I had to

get my head in the right space to come back and

make a living for my family,” Pinn said. “I have

a three-year-old son who turns four in April. I

always wanted to do it. I just wasn’t in the right

headspace at the time. Now that I have had that

time off it has done me good. It one hundred per

cent made me appreciate the racing industry.”

Dragon Leap back in workAvondale Guineas (Gr 2, 1600m) winner

Dragon Leap (Pierro) has returned to Lance

O’Sullivan and Andrew Scott’s Matamata stable

and is building towards an autumn campaign.

The New Zealand Derby (Gr 1, 2400m) fourth

suffered a setback in Sydney during the spring,

which put a premature halt to his Epsom

Handicap (Gr 1, 1600m) campaign. “We have

no real plans at this stage,” Scott said yesterday.

“We will just take him along very quietly over

the next six weeks, work him through his paces

and let the horse guide us. We have been

teaching him to swim this morning and he has

a bit of water-walking to do and a few things in

front of him, but it is nice to have him back in

the stable. He is a quality animal.”

HK: Singapore’s Inferno withdrawn from SprintStandout Singapore representative Inferno

(Holy Roman Emperor) has been withdrawn

from Sunday’s Hong Kong Sprint (Gr 1, 1200m)

on veterinary advice. The four-year-old, who

has won eight of his nine starts - including

the Lion City Cup (Listed, 1200m) by two

and a quarter lengths on October 25 - was

yesterday found to be lame on his left foreleg

by the Hong Kong veterinary team and was

subsequently scratched by his trainer Cliff

    Brown. Inferno’s defection allows reserve

Stronger (Not A Single Doubt) to make the

final field of 14 while champion jockey Zac

Purton, who was slated to partner Inferno,

has picked up the ride on Amazing Star (Darci

Brahma), who was promoted to the line-up

after Perfect Match (Not A Single Doubt)

    sustained an injury on Monday.

HK: Moore on Magical and Mogul but Boudot keeps Order Of Australia rideRyan Moore will retain his partnership with

the seven-time Group 1 winner Magical

(Galileo) in Sunday’s Hong Kong Cup (Gr 1,

2000m), which could be her final start before

retirement, and will also ride Mogul (Galileo)

in the Hong Kong Vase (Gr 1, 2400m),

    but Pierre-Charles Boudot will maintain

his partnership with Order Of Australia

(Australia) in the Hong Kong Mile (Gr 1,

1600m). Boudot was in the saddle for Order

Of Australia's shock victory in the Breeders'

Cup Mile (Gr 1, 1m) and his reward is another

spin on the son of Australia (Galileo), who

appears to have been rejuvenated since

dropping in distance. "She's been a great filly,

a really great one, and any time she has been

beaten there has been circumstances against

her which caused it. The ground should be

fine for her and you'd be hoping for a big

run,” O’Brien said of Magical. "Mogul is a

very high-class colt. He ran well in America,

but that was a very slowly-run race and it

didn't suit him at all. I hope you will see a

different type of race on Sunday and that

will suit him. The plan is for him to stay in

training next season.” Of Order Of Australia,

O’Brien added: "We always thought there was

a chance when he goes back to a mile it could

just be his thing and we were lucky to get a

chance to try him over a mile. He did very

well to win in America and everything has

    gone well with him since."

    BY STEVE MORAN | @ANZ_NEWS

    The extraordinary quality of the

    Japanese thoroughbred is likely to

be showcased again on Sunday in

the four features which make up

    the Hong Kong International Races.

The races have stood up well despite the

impact of Covid-19, which has condemned

the Cup and the Vase to just eight and seven

    runners respectively.

The strength of the Australian sprint form

will also be tested as Classique Legend (Not A

Single Doubt), now representing Hong Kong

and trained by Caspar Fownes, takes on ten

local sprinters, two from Japan and one from

Singapore in the Group 1 Sprint at 1200 metres.

The Japanese claimed three of the four

Group 1 races at last year’s meeting and have

also been brilliantly represented in recent times

by Lord Kanaloa (King Kamehameha), Maurice

(Screen Hero), A Shin Hikari (Deep Impact)

    and Satono Crown (Marju).

The pandemic has severely limited Japan’s

international forays this year and complicated

preparations for many who were shipped to

Dubai only to have the World Cup meeting

    cancelled.

That group included defending Hong Kong

champions Admire Mars (Daiwa Major) and

Win Bright (Stay Gold), who return for the Mile

    and Cup respectively.

Admire Mars faces the not insignificant

stumbling block of the Australian-bred Hong

Kong sensation Golden Sixty (Medaglia D’Oro)

in the 1600-metre Group 1, while a seemingly

out-of-form Win Bright, despite having won

the QEII Cup at his only other Hong Kong run,

might, I fancy, be playing second fiddle to

compatriot Danon Premium (Deep Impact) in

    the Cup.

Golden Sixty, trained by Francis Lui,

recorded his 13th win from 14 starts and became

just the fourth horse to win ten consecutive

races in Hong Kong, emulating greats Silent

Witness (El Moxie), Beauty Generation (Road

To Rock) and Co-Tack (Top Role), when he won

the Jockey Club Mile on November 22.

He would look to have the local opposition,

whom he’s met of late, covered despite now

    meeting all at level weights.

    Admire Mars, last year’s runner-up

Waikuku (Harbour Watch) and Order Of

Australia (Australia) are three who might stand

    in his way.

    Given the Dubai misadventure, Admire

Mars has raced just three times since last

December and just once right-handed at 1600

metres, which was his most recent credible

third to the outstanding Gran Alegria (Deep

Impact), whose run of three straight wins began

with conquering Almond Eye (Lord Kanaloa) in

    the Yasuda Kinen.

I would unhesitatingly argue this Japanese

form around Almond Eye and Gran Alegria is

the strongest turf form anywhere in the world

    in 2020.

    Christophe Soumillon again rides Admire

Mars whose trainer Yasuo Tomomichi’s one

previous HKIR runner was Vivlos (Deep

Impact), who finished second in the 2018 Mile.

That’s some strike rate, which contrasts

interestingly - and cheekily - with those of

two of the world’s great training names who

oppose him here. Aidan O’Brien, with Order

Of Australia, is batting just two from 20 at the

HKIR and both wins came with Highland Reel

    (Galileo).

John Size, who runs Waikuku first-up from a

break of almost eight months, is just three wins

from 55 runners in the Group 1s at this fixture.

Mind you, he’s had a further 12 placings and

one of those wins was, of course, with Glorious

Days (Hussonet), who resumed from a six-

month break to win the Mile in 2013.

Order Of Australia certainly adds intrigue,

and is probably overpriced in current markets,

given his Breeders’ Cup Turf Mile win came at

his only start at the distance since his debut on

heavy ground. For the record, O’Brien has run

five three-year-olds in the Mile and none were

    placed.

Danon Premium faces two chief rivals in

the Hong Kong Cup - O’Brien’s wonderfully

consistent mare Magical (Galileo) and the

    promising French raider Skalleti (Kendargent),

trained by the equally promising Jerome

    Reynier.

Remarkably, all three have form behind this

year’s Ranvet and Queen Elizabeth Stakes winner

Addeybb (Pivotal), who ended his 2020 with

victory in the Champion Stakes at Ascot in which

Skalleti and Magical finished second and third

respectively. Danon Premium was third in the

Queen Elizabeth, with Verry Elleegant (Zed) third.

Danon Premium prepared for this with a

solid fourth in the Tenno Sho Autumn behind

Almond Eye. It was his first run for five months

and he led through the first 1200 metres,

clocking a solid 1.12.50 in a race which evolved

    in favour of the closers.

Skalleti may be dismissed as a wet-tracker

but there’s enough evidence from his limited

number of runs on good ground to suggest he

might be as capable on a firmer surface.

Tomorrow’s barrier draw may impact the

Sprint but Classique Legend (Not A Single

Doubt) is likely superior to these horses if this

is not one grand final too many, while Hot King

Prawn (Denman) and Computer Patch (Exceed

And Excel) likely have an edge over the "true"

    locals.

While run-on Japanese sprinters do not

profile well in this race, Danon Smash (Lord

Kanaloa) and Tower Of London (Raven’s Pass)

add interest. Singapore’s Inferno (Holy Roman

Emperor) was set to play a part as well, but was

    withdrawn yesterday.

Danon Smash, with his Gran Alegria form

and the significant engagement of Ryan Moore,

appeals as the best of that trio provided he’s not

slow to begin, which he is wont to do.

The Vase lacks depth and therefore betting

appeal. Tony Cruz, whose HKIR strike rate is

an excellent ten winners from 70 runners, may

strike again with Exultant (Teofilo), who is ably

suited back to 2400 metres and weight-for-age

    conditions.

    The three-year-old Mogul (Galileo)

represents Ballydoyle after scoring a fast win

the Grand Prix de Paris (from which the form

held up in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, albeit

on soft ground) before settling last and finishing

fifth in a slowly run Breeders’ Cup Turf.

Three-year-olds have three times won the

Vase. The most recent was Highland Reel in

2015 after he’d finished third to Winx (Street

Cry) in the Cox Plate. Five have since competed

    and been unplaced.

    Shamardal (Giant’s Causeway) mare

Nafithaa hails from a Shadwell family

that includes 1,000 Guineas (Gr 1,

1m) and Prix Marcel Boussac (Gr 1,

1600m) heroine Shadayid (Shadeed) and duly

topped the third day of the Arqana Breeding

Stock Sale when making €51,000 (approx.

    AUD$83,250) to Howson & Houldsworth

    Bloodstock on Monday.

Consigned by Haras du Mont-Dit-Mont, the

four-year-old was covered by Intello (Galileo)

earlier this year and is out of the stakes-placed

Zamindar (Gone West) mare Lanansaak, a

daughter of the Group-placed Bunood (Sadler’s

    Wells).

Bunood, in turn, is a daughter of Sadler's

Wells (Northern Dancer) and Azdihaar (Mr

Prospector), a winning half-sister to the top-

    class Shadayid.

Nafithaa, who is unraced, is related to two

winners - the Roger Varian-trained dual scorer

    Montather (Dubawi) and Zaajirah (Shamardal),

a promising winner of her only start to date for

the Newmarket trainer at Kempton in October.

Matt Houldsworth said: "She's been bought

for an existing client. At the moment, she

could stay in France. It's hard to buy mares

by Shamardal and she's from a nice Shadwell

    family.

"Her two-year-old sister was an impressive

winner for Roger Varian and the three-year-old

brother has won two races from three starts, so

that is a young active family."

'Superbly bred' Thaahira heading to Cracksman

    Thaahira, a Dynaformer (Roberto)

    relation to high-class broodmare Tanaghum

(Darshaan) and from the family of champion

miler Ribchester (Iffraaj), was the subject of an

intense period of bidding when selling to MAB

    Agency for €46,000 (approx. AUD$75,000).

The 13-year-old is out of Irish 1,000 Guineas

    (Gr 1, 1m) and Celebration Mile (Gr 2, 1m)

    victress Mehthaaf (Nureyev) - a half-sister to

July Cup (Gr 1, 6f) scorer Elnadim (Danzig) - and

is related to Premio Lydia Tesio (Gr 2, 2000m)

winner Najah (Nashwan) and Tanaghum, the

dam of Group 1 winner Matterhorn (Cape

    Cross), Andrew Balding's high-class Bangkok

(Australia) and Mujarah (Marju), the producer

of multiple Group 1 winner and young sire

    Ribchester.

Thaahira, who has produced four winners

to date, has a yearling colt by Ribchester and

was covered by Iffraaj (Zafonic) this term. She

will visit Cracksman (Frankel) next year.

    Purchaser Marc Antoine Berghgracht said:

"She's superbly bred and has more or less

    prouced only winners.

"She's carrying to a confirmed sire with a

good covering date. We'll hope the Iffraaj foal

will sell well, and she'll go to Cracksman."

Narvick all out for Coulonces' Autumn

    The Coulonces-consigned Autumn Snow

(Invincible Spirit) looked an intriguing lot on

paper and the daughter of Invincible Spirit (Green

Desert) was ultimately snapped up by Narvick

    International for €30,000 (approx. AUD$49,000).

    Once-raced for Godolphin, Autumn Snow

    - who has a Highland Reel (Galileo) yearling

filly and produced a colt by Sioux Nation (Scat

Daddy) this year - is carrying to Le Brivido

(Siyouni) and hails from a high-class family.

The five-year-old is a sister to July Stakes

(Gr 2, 7f) and Sirenia Stakes (Gr 3, 6f) runner-

up Figure Of Speech, while their dam Epic

Similie (Lomitas) is a half-sister to Prix Jean-

Luc Lagardere (Gr 1, 1600m) winner and Haras

du Logis sire Ultra (Manduro). Epic Similie is

    also a half-sibling to Prix Minerve (Gr 3, 2500m)

    victress Synopsis (In The Wings).

Elbegei falls the way of BBA Ireland

BBA Ireland also signed for a Coulonces lot

when going to €25,000 (approx. AUD$41,000)

for the unraced Dark Angel (Acclamation)

filly Elbegei, who hails from the family of Prix

Corrida winner (Gr 2, 2100m) and Pretty Polly

third (Gr 1, 1m2f) Elopa (Tiger Hill).

    The three-year-old, who is currently

carrying to Montfort et Preaux's Recorder

(Galileo), is out of the Listed-winning Dalakhani

(Darshaan) mare Elik, who is a half-sister to

    Mugatoo (Henrythenavigator), a dual Group

VERDICT This can go to GIFT OF LIFELINE, who didn’t get the best ofruns when fourth over C&D four weeks ago and has slipped to atempting mark. Sunny Lad needs to prove he can cope with today’s rise in gradebut he appeared to have a bit left in the tank when winning here last month and issecond choice. Reel Bizzy should also feature.
