Dear Parents Caregivers, As I commence the Week 10 Newsletter I reflect on the year that has been at Warrimoo Public School in 2020. While none of us expected or could have predicted how the year would have turned out we must reflect on the positives that have come from the year. These positives would not have been possible without the magnificent support of the students, staff, families and extended community of Warrimoo. The partnership that we share, in my opinion, truly does make our school the most positive and happy place within the Blue Mountains. School concludes for students on Wednesday 16

th December 2020 at 3pm. I wish the entire

school community a very happy and safe Christmas and New Year’s period. School resumes for Year 1 to Year 6, on Friday 29

th January 2021.

Gold Assembly On Thursday 3

rd December 2020, Warrimoo Public School conducted the end of year Gold

Assembly. I would like to congratulate the many students who were presented with their Gold Awards and to the students who reached their Platinum Awards. Well done students.

Year 6 Farewell On Friday of Week 9, the Year 6 students had the opportunity to celebrate their Year 6 Farewell. It was a truly magnificent function with the theme for the celebration being ‘Dr Seuss’. Congratulations Year 6 on an amazing year and thank you for your contribution over the time you have been at Warrimoo Public School. The preparation, organisation and running of the event has been a culmination of months of hard work and dedication by the amazing Farewell Team. No short cuts were taken in preparing for the event, only dedication, commitment and focus. Mrs Mac has done an exceptional job leading the process and should be congratulated for the long afternoons, late evenings, early mornings and extensive weekends that she has spent bringing the farewell together, thank you Mrs Mac! It would be remiss of me not to mention the tremendous work the Year 5 students and Mrs Harris have done, the artistic time and effort Mrs DeBono has put into the process and to the huge team effort from the teaching and non-teaching staff. On behalf of the Year 6 group and the staff of Warrimoo Public School thank you all for making this such a memorable event.

Blue Mountains Public Speaking Competition Several weeks ago, I reported to you through the school newsletter that our Stage 2 and Stage 3 students competed in a school based public speaking competition. The winners of the grade competitions then went on to represent our school in the Blue Mountains Public Speaking Competition. The competition was held through Zoom which added a great deal of complexities to the delivery of speeches for each student. At the Gold Assembly I was fortunate to award Rose B, Bernie D and Saskia C with their medals and Taylor H with her winning trophy and the perpetual shield which will be displayed throughout 2021 in the school ad-ministration building. Congratula-tions students on your fine achievements and the manner in which you represented our school.

Class Composition for 2021 As we move ever so closer to 2021, I feel it fitting to announce the class composition for 2021. A great deal of thought and planning has gone into the formation of classes. Due to the variations to student numbers in each grade and stage, class composition does need to be amended from time to time. I assure you that every student in every classroom will be given the very best academic opportunities to succeed in their education in 2021. As a school, we ensure that the curriculum is addressed as a progression and that the individuals are always working towards future goals along their academic journey. Mrs Drummond will remain on leave and Mrs Pagan will join the team as a full-time teacher in 2021. The classes for 2021 are as follows;

• Kindergarten

• Kindergarten & Year 1 class

• Year 2 class

• Year 2/3 class

• Year 3/4 class

• Year 4/5 class

• Year 5/6 class On arrival back to school on Friday 29

th January the new classes will be formed for 2021 with

teachers being allocated to these classes.

At the conclusion of this week we farewell Mrs Liauw and Mrs Farrar. Both ladies have been a mag-nificent addition to our team and will be greatly missed.

Opportunity Test Placement Announcement I would like to update you on the modified timeline for Year 5 opportunity class entry in 2021.The Opportunity Class Placement Test was conducted on Wednesday 18 November 2020 in 1068 primary schools and test centres across NSW. It is anticipated that the results will be released to parents and schools in mid-January 2021. To ensure that most vacancies are filled by the start of Term 1, 2021, parents who are offered placement on behalf of their children will have just one week to respond to their offers. Parents will be emailed by the High Performing Students Team to ensure that they watch their emails or depute someone else to respond on their behalf if they will be out of contact when the results are released as offers will lapse if parents do not respond in time. Attendance Please note that regular attendance is still very important right up to the end of the school year and we expect all students to be attending school every day. The last day of the school year for students is Wednesday 16

th December 2020.

Updated Covid-19 Guidelines As we move into 2021 the Department of Education has eased several of the guidelines in regards to restrictions within our schools. These guidelines are subject to change between now and the commencement of 2021 and rather than providing apposing information now, I will forward out the updates and how they will impact our school before students commence school on Friday 29

th

January 2021.

2021 School Travel Application As we move towards the beginning of 2021 it is necessary for parents who may require an Opal Card for their child to travel via bus to or from school to complete an online application. Information related to how to apply will be forwarded home this week. Alternatively, you can access the follow-ing web address. https://apps.transport.nsw.gov.au/ssts/#/howToApply

NSW Schools Update App This app allows parents and caregivers to receive operational status updates for their children in NSW public schools, including notifications of temporary closures. To download the app you can search for ‘NSW Schools Updates’ in the App Store (for Apple devices), in Google Play (for Android Devices) or go to: https://education.nsw.gov.au/parents-and-carers/nsw-school-updates-app

2021 School Enrolments Kindergarten enrolments and all other enrolments for 2021 are currently being taken. In order for us to prepare our classes and ensure that equitable class numbers are maintained it is essential that we have all the information needed leading into 2021. If you know of someone who is enrolling at Warrimoo Public School and has not yet done so, could you please pass on our school details? Ad-ditionally, if you have children in Kindergarten to Year 5 and are planning on moving at the end of the year, that information is important also. I wish you a very happy, safe and enjoyable Christmas and New Year’s holiday period. My kindest regards, Mr Tony Jeff Principal
