The All American Rejects - Move Along Deconstruction At the start of this music video there is an overhead/ ariel shot of a character falling backwards into an empty swimming pool. This helps to introduce the narrative and subject of the music video. The shot is carried out in slow motion, which sets a slow pace to the beginning of the music video . As the music begin s to play and the pace speeds up it goes into a medium long shot of a man in an office, with another behind him. This shot establishes that the man is looking worried/ troubled, and sets the idea that he is in trouble with the man behind. This also contributes to introducing the narrative. Afterwards we get medium long shots of other characters following one after the other, this helps present the idea that the meaning of this song affects every person from any background. In all of these photos the characters look troubled and upset. especially in the medium long shot of the couple, where the shot allows the audience establish that the woman is looking apologetic, which could set the idea of a break up between the two characters. Later on in the video there is a shot reverse shot between the man sitting at the table and the empty chair with the table set. This helps present the idea of loneliness and the absence of someone he may have cared about, it also reflects on the narrative of the music video.

The All American Rejects - Move Along

Deconstruction

At the start of this music video there is an overhead/ariel shot of a character falling backwards into anempty swimming pool. This helps to introduce thenarrative and subject of the music video. The shot iscarried out in slow motion, which sets a slow pace to

the beginning of the music video. As the music begin sto play and the pace speeds up it goes into a mediumlong shot of a man in an office, with another behind

him. This shot establishes that the man is lookingworried/ troubled, and sets the idea that he is introuble with the man behind. This also contributes to

introducing the narrative. Afterwards we getmedium long shots of other characters followingone after the other, thishelps present the idea thatthe meaning of this songaffects every person from

any background.

In all of these photos the characters look troubled andupset. especially in the medium long shot of the couple, where the shot allows the audience establish that thewoman is looking apologetic, which could set the idea of a break up between the two characters.

Later on in the video there is a shot reverse shot

between the man sitting at the table and the emptychair with the table set. This helps present the idea of loneliness and the absence of someone he may havecared about, it also reflects on the narrative of themusic video.

There is then a close-up of a ring being removed froma finger, and the woman inthe previous shot walkingaway. This use of these

shots helps the audience establish the narrativefurther. It also fits in with the lyrics of the song, and

introduces the idea of having to move along .

As the pace of the song song speeds up so does the changing of the shots of the characters, the shots are close ups and medium long shots of the sameperson with different backgrounds and costumes. This helps to establish theidea of diversity within the meaning of this song and how it can apply to manypeople. The duration of these shots vary from a second to a millisecond, which

varies the pace to fit to the pace of the music.

\Later in the video there is a medium long shot of aconfident looking man in athem t-shirt, and a man inan us t-shirt. There is thena close-up one after the

other showing the scores of these two teams, with thethem team obviously winning by the huge majority of points. This use of

costume and mise en scene is an effective way of representing the idea of theunderdogs losing to them .It can also be easily relatableto the audience, as it canrefer to anyone depending

on the people watching the music video .

The music video also carries on with the fastsnappy changing of shots throughout. One of theseshots includes a close-up of a crashed car. Thisshows a collision, which could represent the idea of hitting a barrier, which fits in with the narrative.

This shortly follows with the smashing of a car doorwindow. This introduces the idea of crime which isrepresented with vulnerability. The shot of thesmashing of the window is also effective in the

sense that it also adds pace to the piece, as it s a fastmoving shot.

The use of costume in some of the characters iseffective in presenting the idea of the underdogand losing out. An example is the medium long shotof a character in a shirt saying L is for Loser .

Towards the ending of the music video the subjectreturns to the originalshot of the characterfalling into the emptypool which was at thebeginning of the music

video. Although, the shot then follows a long shotof him falling lower, yet now there are hands in the shot ready to catch him,and the audience realise this due to the effectiveness of this shot. This shotalso adds to the meaning of the song in general.

Near the ending of the music video thisshots mostly begin to focus on the bandand them playing. There is an ariel shot of the band playing followed by close-ups of

them individually, this ends the video withthe recognition of the band, and helpsrepresent the bands image. There is also

an audience behind the band in mostshots, they are also wearing clothes whichmatch the bands style, which many of the bands fans wouldwear. This helps the music video be more appropriate for thechosen audience and their fan base.
