SUNDAY 11TH SEPTEMBER 2016
SEVENTEENTH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST
‘There is joy in the presence of the angels
of God over one sinner who repents.’
This is not ‘the heathen’ or the un-
‘saved’, nor about counting numbers. It
is about care for the individual soul.
This was Jesus, the Good Shepherd’s
concern. He said a shepherd will leave
ninety-nine sheep, even in the wilder-
ness, and search for the lost one, until
he finds it. Jesus’ parable of the lost is
told, not only to his faithful disciples,
but also to ‘the leaders and teachers’.
Those in Christ’s Church, who would
be leaders and have authority are to be
held accountable for searching out the
lost until they are found. Paul knew this
and instructed Timothy, his ‘loyal child
in the faith’ accordingly. ‘Though they
frustrate the poor in their hopes: surely
the Lord is their refuge.’

Opening Hymn:
Rejoice, O land, in God your might;
His will obey, him serve aright;
For you the saints uplift their voice:
Fear not, O land, in God rejoice.
Glad shall you be, with blessing crowned,
With joy and peace you shall abound;
Yea, love with you shall make his home
Until you see God’s kingdom come.
He shall forgive your sins untold:
Remember you his love of old;
Walk in his way, his word adore,
And keep his truth for evermore.

St Saviour’s Cathedral Hymns September 11th 2016
Gradual Hymn
Praise, my soul, the King of heaven,
To his feet thy tribute bring;
Ransomed, healed, restored, forgiven,
Who like me his praise should sing?
Alleluia, alleluia,
Praise the everlasting King.
Praise him for his grace and favour
To our fathers in distress;
Praise him still the same forever,
Slow to chide and swift to bless:
Alleluia, alleluia,
Glorious in his faithfulness.
Father-like he tends and spares us,
Well our feeble frame he knows;
In his hands he gently bears us,
Rescues us from all our foes:
Alleluia, alleluia,
Widely as his mercy flows.
Angels help us to adore him;
Ye behold him face to face;
Sun and moon bow down before him,
Dwellers all in time and space:
Alleluia, alleluia,
Praise with us the God of grace.

St Saviour’s Cathedral Hymns September 11th 2016
Offertory Hymn
Immortal, invisible, God only wise,
In light inaccessible hid from our eyes,
Most blessèd, most glorious, the Ancient of Days,
Almighty, victorious, your great name we praise.
Unresting, unhasting, and silent as light,
Nor wanting, nor wasting, but ruling in might;
Your justice like mountains high soaring above,
Your clouds which are fountains of goodness and love.
You give life to all, Lord, to both great and small,
In all life now living, the true life of all;
We blossom and flourish as leaves on a tree,
Then wither: but ever unchanged you will be.
Great Father of glory, pure Father of light,
Your angels adore you, all veiling their sight;
Of all your rich graces this grace, Lord, impart –
Take the veil from our faces, the veil from our heart.
All praise we would render: reveal to our sight
What hides you is only the splendour of light;
And so let your glory, Almighty, impart,
Through Christ in the story, your Christ to the heart.

Final Hymn
Loving Shepherd of your sheep,
Keep your lamb, in safety keep;
Nothing can your power withstand,
None can pluck me from your hand.
I would praise you every day,
Gladly all your will obey,
Like your blessèd ones above
Happy in your precious love.
Loving Shepherd, ever near,
Teach your lamb your voice to hear;
Suffer not my steps to stray
From the straight and narrow way.
Where you leadest I would go,
Walking in your steps below,
Till before my Father’s throne
I shall know as I am known.

1. Fools have said in their hearts “There | is no | God”:
They have all become vile and abominable in their doings,
There is | not one | that does | good.
2. The Lord looked down from heaven upon the | children . of | Adam:
To see if there were any who would act wisely and | seek | after | God.
3. But they have all turned out of the way, they have all alike be- | come cor- | rupt:
There is none that does good, | no | not | one.
4. Are all the evildoers devoid of | under- | standing:
Who eat up my people as they eat bread,
And | do not | pray . to the | Lord. REFRAIN
5. They shall be | struck with | terror:
For God is with the | compan-y | of the | righteous.
6. Though they frustrate the poor | in their | hopes:
Surely the | Lord | is their | refuge.
7. O that deliverance for Israel might come | forth from | Zion:
When the Lord turns again the fortunes of his people,
Then shall Jacob re- | joice and | Israel . be | glad. REFRAIN
