The next SBWS meeting will be held on March 13 at 7 pm in the Garden Room, Torrance Cultural Center.

March 13 Demonstrator – Ruby Wang   Eve Pericich began painting seven years ago, shortly before retiring from a long career in education. She remembers her first experience with acrylic collage in a class taught by Logan Fox at Harbor Community Adult School. rom the beginning, the San Pedro native saw the medium as a way to paint recognizable portraits and landscapes with the depth and texture that she feels “only collage can impart.”        From a large collection of photographic images taken from books, magazines and newspapers and objects found in nature, such as tree bark, dried plant material, reptile skin, coffee beans, shells and sand, the images and objects are combined with acrylic painting in a way that makes it difficult to tell what is collaged and what is painted. All manner of paper, from wallpaper to rice paper, as well as textile, jewelry and common household elements, find their way into Eve's work. She attends Dael Patton's Abstract Acrylic Mixed Media class at PVAC for “inspiration from Dael and insight into abstraction.” Eve has shown her paintings at 608 North Gallery in Redondo Beach, several exhibitions at South Bay Lexus Service Center, Art in Our Library at Peninsula Library in Rolling Hills and Palos Verdes Art Center. Findings Art Center and Le Grand Salon (a pop-up gallery Eve helped organize), Point Gallery and The Corner Store are San Pedro venues where she exhibits her work often. She belongs to SBWS and Paletteers. Eve's painting Many Hues in the Garden was chosen for the opening of the Stuart Haaga Gallery at Descanso Gardens in La Canada. Her most recent painting, the 24” by 72” View From Marymount, was commissioned by the Board of Trustees of Marymount California University for the Office of President Lucas Lamadrid in honor of his investiture. Eve looks forward to sharing with the SBWS adventures in finding and applying collage elements to acrylic painting at the November meeting.

Ruby H. Wang, was born in Nanjing, China and grew up as a native of Wuxi near the port city of Shanghai. She received her Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts fromTaiwan Normal University in Taipei, Taiwan and studied with the respected Professor C.P. Huang. She pursued advanced studies at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
