Dear Friends,

Fall is in the air, and we are busy with changes and programs ramping up for the new season. I want to congratulate my right arm – Katy Tolles on completing her Masters in Social Work. She was a dynamo, trudging through despite taking care of a toddler, working for Allied Arts and the complications of a pandemic! She has accepted a job at Lydia’s Place to start at the beginning of September. We will all miss her terribly, but wish her all the happiness in her new endeavors.

Judy will be the boss still in charge of the books going on 25 plus years! Janis Conn continues to inspire our youth through the Arts Education Program. I also want to welcome our new teammates. We have divided duties up a bit differently. We welcome Jess Irvine as Gallery Assistant, Liz Smyth as Program Assistant, Deanna Lane as Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Coordinator and Sacha Bliese as On-sight Holiday Festival Manager. All four ladies have impressive resumes and have shown us their talents as volunteers/staff at Allied Arts in the past. Come by the gallery and welcome them!

We have had a busy year continuing to: advocate for artists and arts orgs on local, be a proud participant in the Whatcom Arts Project with over 30 other local arts organizations, create a new integrated database and online store system (thanks to Ethan D’Onofrio), and a virtual version of arts education program for our local schools and adults. We look forward to bringing you another year of exciting and diverse programs – hopefully, more in-person than virtual!

Thank you for your contributions as participants, teachers, volunteers, patrons, students, donors and friends.

Warmest wishes,

Allied Arts presents their monthly exhibits at their Gallery on Cornwall Avenue. Works from over 200 local artists were exhibited over the past year, and included seven small group shows in our Juried Artist Series, as well as larger shows with local art groups such as Whatcom Artists of Clay and Kiln and the Whatcom Artist Studio Tour.

Ever changing COVID regulations kept gallery and art walk attendance on the slower side, but the appreciation from visitors who enjoyed experiencing some creativity in-person was so fulfilling! We continued our online presence and explored new ways to connect with artists and appreciators via digital communication.

Due to distance learning the fall 2020 semester looked very different for the Arts Ed Program. The typical sessions were on-hold due to the Pandemic. Several avenues were taken to get art to students. Lesson plans and video instructions were posted to our website; Collaboration with the Environmental Educators to provide an art component to their program; the Dementia Northwest Program began online. Spring Semester saw four of our teaching artists actively providing art via Zoom to Bellingham Classrooms. The Children’s Art Walk was an in-person event this year! Forty

businesses displayed over 2,000 works of art from twenty schools.

Live music was enjoyed by an estimated 1,800 folks strolling the

sidewalks.

Income 2020-21 Total Budget: $278,467

Allied Arts of Whatcom County usually hosts three annual festivals. Due to Covid-19, we were unable to do that this year. Instead we offered mini and online options!

41st Annual Holiday Festival of the Arts November 20 - December 24, 2020 The Holiday Festival of the Arts celebrated it’s 42nd year. Over 60 local artisans participated in the five week-long festival which looked a little different this year. Instead of our typical large festival space, we created two ways for folks shop their favorite Festival vendors. The Wired Market was an online marketplace where shoppers could order and pick-up their purchases curbside at our gallery. Holiday Festival Lite was a teeny tiny version of our festival with goods displayed in our gallery space on Cornwall Ave.

64 Participating Artists 4,500 Objects Sold 2,300 Visitors

Whatcom Cultural Art Festival March 5-27, 2021 This year’s Whatcom Cultural Art Festival consisted of a gallery exhibit featuring work from local Pacific Islander, Native American and African American Artists. In addition to the gallery exhibit, videos of traditional dance, storytelling, and discussions were shared with audiences online.
