Today we welcome Golborne Sports who present another tough challenge for WTFC. We can win the group today so the players know the importance of the game. I personally can’t lose any game and even though we’ve qualified for the quarter-finals, I can’t take any games more lightly than others. The players have prepared well for the game today and we will definitely go into this game fully prepared. I would like to thank everyone who has supported us so far this season, it’s been brilliant to see. The fans drive the team and it’s important that this continues throughout the season. So carry on supporting the club this season. This has been a good season already for the club but nothing has been won and we have loads of work to do before anything will be coming to Ericstan Park’s trophy cabinet. WTFC U10s: Manager: Lee Willcox Coach: Steve Nelson Coach: Barry Lingard League: Timperley & District League Manager Lee Willcox talks about the season, “This season we are playing good football and trying new positions as we have a couple of new players than we had last year. we aren't at the top of our league like we were last year due to our goal keeper leaving at the beginning of the season and new players being integrated in to the team, although a couple of the boys have stepped up to go in goal we are still currently looking for a goal keeper. WTFC Under 12’s: Manager - Rob Wyness Manager - Andy Peters League - Tameside U12's (Saturday) The season started strongly with a convincing opening game win. The team continued to build upon this and have only dropped two points so far this season. The side currently occupy top spot and are in the 3rd Round of the Manchester F.A County Cup, after a tight affair against Urmston Town, a game which saw Wythenshawe come out 4-3 winners. Manager Rob Wyness has his say on the season so far, “We are playing some of the best football myself and Andy have seen at our age group. Our team are positive in possession, work rate and we are really pleased with the rate of development. Encouragement and praise is paramount, and comes not only from the coaching staff but from all the individuals in the team. We are lucky enough to have fantastic support from the parents too which helps massively towards the smooth running of any junior team. We have also progressed to the semi-final of the challenge cup where we are going to be playing Glossop North End at home.

WTFC Under 15’s: Manager: John Whittle ( Geordie ) 07799384923 johnwhittle@hotmail.com Assistant: Pete Woods John chats to ‘The Town Review’ about the season so far, “Last year we had our most successful season we got to the Semi-Final of the League Cup only getting beat 1-0. The quarter finals of the county cup to get beat on penalties. And winning the league by 10 points a superb year of football. This year we started off well winning our 1st 2 games only to fall off the pace and a few off field problems. But after a few meetings and some new signings we seem to be on the up again we are currently standing mid table and look forward to the rest of the season. WTFC Under 21s: Manager: Claud Spence Assistant Manager: Jeff Sefton League: Cheshire FA U21s League Claud Spence tells ‘The Town Review’ of the season, “The Under 21s team was formed very late in the pre-season so we didn't have much time to gel before starting our Cheshire League campaign and only played one friendly beforehand. Our first 4 games were at home while trying to gel as a team and understand the formations and style of play needed picking up 2 wins and 2 draws. The first 7 games in total going unbeaten. We have since lost 2 more games but remain in the top 4 in the league containing 11 teams and have a Cup Quarter-Final on December 7th. Where can we improve? Being able to field our strongest team every week, killing teams off once we take the lead and our discipline, both towards officials and opposing teams. With the additional players signed we have strengthened the squad and I would expect the team to finish on a high in our first season and players pushing to get into the reserve or 1st Team next season. The Season So far: Overall Good but with the Manager's high standards required, we could do a lot better but the players have got to want it and work at improving it.

WTFC Reserves: Manager: Gary King Assistant: James Dawson League: Cheshire Reserve League 2 The new management team of Gary King (Manager) and James Dawson (Assistant) have taken on the challenge of leading the Reserves to glory this year and so far it’s going quite well. Gary is only 3 games into his reign but a draw, defeat and win means we are certainly going in the right direction. He has been a popular figure at the club for many years and has spent most of his playing career here as well. His experience of the game and the club together will be a major part of the teams success both on and off the field. James has been involved at the club for almost 9 years having initially managed a junior side be-fore then focussing on playing the game himself being a regular in the Reserve side. It is the last 18 months or so that have seen him become more involved in the running of the Reserves and he now has a key role to play alongside Gary as his Assistant. The story so far… After being thumped 7-0 in the first game of the season away at Sandbach United it looked very much a case of “here we go again” for the reserves and one of those seasons to forget. However, after pulling together the Reserves set out on an 8 game winning streak, making Wythenshawe Town as a whole look invincible for a good two months or so. Unfortunately we weren’t quite able to emulate the 100% record of the first team and that run was brought to an end in a day to forget at West Didsbury. The aim of both managers is to produce quality players who are capable of competing for a place in the first team. Players who have the passion for our club our experience will help develope play-ers not only in ability but also mental attitude commitment and desire. Whilst winning the league or a cup would be nice it's not what we consider to be vital producing quality players with great attitudes is what's important for the long term future of our great club. The support we get of the club the chairman the first team managers and our social supporters is fantastic. We look forward to next year and watching our younger players develop there are some good players in the squad who may get there chance this season.

Match Action

Wythenshawe Town faced an away trip to Warrington Town Reserves in the J A Walton Challenge Cup. Wythenshawe had already dispatched of Warrington 5-1 at home. The game opened very scrappily with neither side managing to take a grip of the match. 16 minutes saw the first chance when Remmi Williams crossed the ball to the edge of the box where it was met by a Ben Connolly volley; the ball span just over the goal. A minute later after good work on the left wing, the ball was cut back to Lee McGregor who fired well over from far out.

On 26 minutes Warrington had a free-kick in a dangerous position out wide, on the edge of the box. The ball was whipped in low and took a great tackle to put the ball out for a corner. Warrington began to get more into the game and a through ball on 35 mins required a quick run from his line, from debutant Aaron Gibbs.

Half-time came and both sides struggled to get clear cut chances out of the game. 0-0 Wythenshawe started the second-half quickly and broke the deadlock after just 6 minutes, Dean McGregor ran out wide into the box, the defender and keeper failed to get the ball away and the ball was cut back to Ben Brooks who slotted home. Advantage Wythenshawe. Warrington Town responded well to the goal, pinning the visitors back for a spell of the match. Wythenshawe nearly went two in front through a free-kick but the header was well saved. Then the hosts nearly equalised when a ball over the top was headed just over. On 85 minutes the ball was fired across the home side’s box, no one could clear and Ben Connolly slid in to put the ball just wide. With just a minute left Warring-ton had a free-kick but it was cleared away and with the final kick of the game, Steven Crane shot home from the edge of the box to secure a quarter-finals place for Wythenshawe Town.

WTFC 1st XI: Manager: Lee McGregor Assistant: Gaz Brown & Paul Williams League: Cheshire League 2 Manager Lee McGregor has his say on the season, “So far it's been a dream season I never thought we would as-semble such a strong squad so quick-ly.

We are now into December and re-main unbeaten but now comes the difficult part; we our competing on all fronts for every trophy we have entered, teams are aware of the fact, we have not been defeated and are raising their game when they play against us. To win even one tro-phy we will have to be at our best in every game we play.

If our standards slip then all the hard work will have been for nothing, it is my task to keep the squad focused on our goals which first and foremost for the size of this club is promotion. We have the facilities to be at least a Cheshire League Premier club. The cups are a bo-nus but personally me and the lads we

Match Action Wythenshawe travelled to Club AZ in the Altrincham FA Senior Quarter-Final. Wythenshawe managed to get a 3-2 win away at Club AZ through goals from Remmi Williams, Ashley Woodhead & Ben Brooks. The win puts the club through to the semi-finals of the cup and will face AFC Quarry after they overcame Broadheath Central in the Quarter-Finals. Match Report The day started with a delayed kick off due to holes in the net and mole hills that had to be flattened on this what can only be described as, an awful football pitch. It was a very scrappy game where neither side could take a hold and dominate the match due to the poor conditions. After a number of missed opportunities for WTFC either due to poor finishes or offside decisions by the equally amateurish refereeing display, the sides went into half-time level. The 2nd half started in much the same fashion WTFC continued to miss chances and struggled to get a grip of the game due to the stop, start nature of the match and game subsequently failed to flow. Then with 15 minutes to go to full time Ben Connolly gives away possession tees up a Club AZ midfielder who trickles a shot under the Gibbs. Wythenshawe decided to make some subs, Ash Woodhead, Remmi Williams and Jason Walley all coming on. Walley started to dominate midfield and released Ash who run down the line to cross for Remmi who scored to level it up. Jason Walley again released Ash who cut in from the right and smashed it in with his left foot to put Wythenshawe in front for the 1st time in the match. Ben Brooks flicked it over the keeper for Wythenshawe’s third from a Ben Connolly cross. Then WTFC conceded a corner which was taken, Gibbs shouted but missed and presented an easy tap in for AZ to reduce the arrears, 3-2. From this point it Wythenshawe Town dominated the game and saw out the game 3-2. All in all poor performance but a lesser team wouldn't have got the result in those awful conditions; we will have to improve if we are going to win anything this season. Report by Lee McGregor

Weekend Roundup - 6th & 7th

Wythenshawe Town 1st XI, Reserves & Under 21s were all in action this weekend. The 1st team and U21s were in for the cup this weekend whilst the reserves faced a home tie in the league. On Saturday, the 1st team travelled to Club AZ in the Altrincham FA Senior Cup Quarter-final. The club took huge importance on a match which could potentially see them through to the semi-final. After going 1 goal behind, the substitutes turned

the game around to put Wythenshawe 3-1 up. Club AZ reduced the arrears to 3-2 but could-n’t get a draw. Wythenshawe progressed to the semi-finals of the Senior cup. The goalscorers from the match were R.Williams, Woodhead and Brooks. WTFC will face cup holders AFC Quarry in the semi-finals.

Also playing on the Saturday, the reserves welcomed West Didsbury & Chorlton ‘A’ to Ericstan Park for a Reserve League 2 fixture. Wythenshawe mustered a 5-1 win over the team now placed 9th. Wythenshawe reserves sit in 5th in the Reserve League 2 table. Playing on the Sunday, the Under 21s also welcomed a team to Ericstan Park. St.Helens Town Under 21s were the visitors in the League Cup Quarter-Final. A tough game but Wythenshawe got an important cup victory over a strong St.Helens team. They were pegged back from 1-0 through a first-half penalty to take the game to ex-tra-time. Despite 2 sending offs, Wythenshawe secured a 3-1 QF win. Overall, another brilliant week-end for the club with the U21s, Reserves & 1st XI all winning and putting Wythenshawe’s teams in 2 semi-finals.

Manchopper With Wythenshawe Town just setting out on their Cheshire League adventure, it seems a good time for me to reflect on just what they may encounter along the way. Having been to a fair amount of Cheshire League games in my time, I know for a fact that, with all due respect to all involved, sterner tests will come into force as they progress up the leagues, and I'm sure that Lee and all those at the club are going to be well prepared for these upcoming challenges. So far this season, I have seen clubs such as Knutsford, Eagle Sports, Gamesley and Sandbach United of the Cheshire Premier, as well as attending Wythenshawe's recent home game against Witton Albion's Reserves. Though it is hard to gauge the true stature of Town as they crush all comers, I'm sure that they will continue to serenely progress up the pyramid and compete strong-ly against the likes of the Prem clubs once they reach the higher reaches of the League. Some of the players that Wythy have been able to bring into their squad could easily ply their trades in the Counties, perhaps even the Evo-Stik Leagues, but this could be the case for many of those currently playing for the likes of Knutsford and current leaders Linotype/Cheadle HN. It is a long held belief of mine that the to five or six clubs in the Cheshire League are probably of similar if not stronger squad status than those in the bottom six of the Counties. That is just my view, but having seen both levels a fair amount, it is one I feel is correct. Moving on now to the future, and of course, with progress comes the need to improve facilities to continue to aid the club's growth. This can be by perimeter fencing, floodlights, seating amongst many others. Now, I know that Wythenshawe do have their focus on eventually entering the foot-ball league pyramid and I'm sure that they will be given a large amount of backing from the foot-ball world as one of those rare ones to be prepared to take the plunge. This was shown by the backing for the likes of Uttoxeter Town and Litherland REMYCA last season, who both managed to finish 5th place in their local leagues to achieve the required promotion place. Again, in my view, should Wythenshawe Town manage to progress into the Counties Leagues in the next couple of seasons, then they will have a superb chance of competing strongly for the First Division NWCFL title soon as they get there. The likes of Litherland, Irlam, and Runcorn Town have shown the step isn't too big, nor is it daunting, and of cause with floodlights comes the scope of entering the national cup competition, the FA Vase, providing some much needed bonus prize money and, who knows, some national exposure! So, with Wythy Town looking odds-on for a promotion at the first attempt, the South Manchester town looks to finally have a successful club with the view towards being their only semi-pro side, a long overdue event, with so many talented players coming from the area. Who knows who could be the next to be given their big break via the medium of non-league football? Hell, if my prospec-tive debut at the end of the season goes well, I could be the next Ali Dia....

Chairman’s Chat We approach the end of 2014; my 1st year as chairman of this fantastic club. I thank each and every one of you for your support and I wish you and your families a very happy Xmas and a prosperous new year. Progression has been tough but successful, achieving the grading requirements made by the FA and football foundation was a fantastic achievement in such a short period of time. We have obtained approval for the land to develop our football academy. The redecorating of our club house looks great. Building a solid relationship with Fleetwood Town becoming a feeder club will provide a great opportunity for our junior/youth footballers. The restructure of the football section is working fantastic, whilst we still have work to do it's coming together very well we are truly fortunate to have such great people who love the club and love football. Our social pool and darts sections are integral to the future of our amazing club we appreciate your continued support. The planning to progress to semi pro level both on and off the field of play is ahead of schedule. Ground grading/application for North West Counties took place on Saturday 6th Dec with only a couple of upgrades now needed to achieve the grade. The dream of bringing this status to our club is now within touching distance. This achievement will be absolutely amazing not just for our club but also the community. On the field of play our teams are doing extremely. The first and second team have been completely transformed and I believe we have the best management and teams ever at this club that's no disrespect to previous players/managers but as a complete squad they are in my opinion, the best. The first team are top the Cheshire League 2, are in the semi-final of the Altrincham Senior Cup and the quarter-final of the County Cup and the J A Walton Challenge Trophy The junior teams are all doing fantastic; the U13s team managed by our club manager of the year 2013/14 John Barton remain unbeaten in the league since November 2012, amazing, whilst the U21s managed by Claude Spencer remain title contenders in their 1st season, which is fantastic. This year has truly been amazing, achieving far more than what we expected. The work behind the scenes is unfortunately something that does not get noticed by many, but not to be under estimated the amount of hours given up by our volunteers the work and support is amazing massive. Thank you to each and every one of you.
