13th Sunday of Ordinary time

They built hope…

It’s because of your generous support and prayers, 72 persons, (teens, interns and adults) were able to bring hope to three families who had none. Our missionaries built three houses in three days. They worked hard under less than perfect condi-tions. Their tenacity and drive led them to accomplish their mission...will a little help from the Holy Spirit! Please check out our website at www.stcharlesparish.org for pictures and videos of this amazing experience that was had by all who participated.

YOU, the St. Charles community, made this happen!

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Parish Members Who are Ill

Stewardship by the Book: Both the first reading and the Gospel today speak of hospitality and welcome. Our ministers of hospitality are a most visible example of using one’s time and talents to welcome the people of God. But the Gospel assures us that all who give even just “a cup of cold water” to one of His lowliest ones will be rewarded.

This weekend’s second collection will benefit parish education.

Teen Service Opportunity

On Tuesday, August 8, we will be making lunches at St. Charles and taking them to people experiencing home-lessness in San Francisco. We'll meet in the kitchen of Borromeo Hall at 9:00am and most likely return be-tween 1:30 and 2pm. We are still in need of teen volun-teers. We are also looking for parents to join us as drivers and chaperones.

There are two ways to get involved: 1) Come make lunches and go with us to deliver them

in SF. 2) Create one or more "care bags" at home for us to

deliver. Contact Tami for a list of suggested items for the care bags. [email protected] or 591-7349 ext. 405.

If you would like to contribute one or more care bags, you may drop them off at the parish office (to the atten-tion of Tami Palladino) before Aug. 8.

The Women’s Catholic Scripture Study group of San Mateo County celebrates it’s fifteenth year this Fall. All women are invited to join us for our upcoming study called The United Kingdom of Israel: A Fore-shadowing of the Reign of Christ the King which will examine the lives of Kings Saul, David and Solomon to learn how their Old Testament reigns—especially the reign of David—point ahead to the kingdom of heav-en. It will cover the First Book of Samuel 7:3 through the First Book of Kings 11:43. For a sample lesson of this Bible study, go to: www.TurningtoGodsWord.com and click on TtGW Studies. Our 28-week study begins Thursday, Sept 7, and ends May 10 (with breaks for Thanksgiving, Christmas, President’s Week, and Easter) and includes study questions, small group discussion, and class wrap-up lecture. We meet at St. Mark Cath-olic Church, Belmont. Class times are 9:45 AM – Noon. For more info, please visit our website, www.cssbelmont.com. To receive an application to join us, please contact either Diane Masetti at [email protected], or 650-593-3681 or Tami Palladino, at [email protected], or 650-592-7349, extension 405. Thank you.

And whoever gives only a cup of cold water to one of these little ones to drink because the little one is a disciple—amen, I say to you, he will surely not lose his reward. Matthew 10:37-42

For the homeless, it is a shelter. For the lonely, it’s just a visit. For the hungry, it’s a meal For one who stumbles, it is helping hands. For the thirsty, just a drop water.

O God, you ask little of us. You bless us, when we give and also when we receive. Please let us have a cup of cold water. And let us not ignore those souls that thirst for you. Amen.

THE RICHNESS OF LIFE IN CHRIST

Today we have the beautiful story of the woman prom-ised a child, the wonderful exhortation about life in Christ, and a powerful instruction from Jesus. An em-barrassment of riches? Not if we take Jesus' words about "welcome" to heart. The many challenges and blessings offered to us today by Elisha, Paul, and Je-sus should be cause for rejoicing, and welcomed heartily into our lives. And, like the great treat that they are, they should be enjoyed and shared generously with others.

Today's reading from Romans was chosen very early in the liturgical life of the Church to be the sole apos-tolic instruction received by candidates for Baptism at the Easter Vigil. This illustrates its importance as a core belief, and as a means of comprehending the story of the Resurrection. Christ's Resurrection is not merely a story about something that he underwent once upon a time, but it is our story, the story of how we joined the other members of the one Body of Christ, the Church. We were not only dead, but we were buried; not ultimately buried, but raised to eternal life with Christ. Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co.
