Students are constantly reminded to wear their brown school hat (primary) and hats (secondary) during recess and lunch. Our rule is NO HAT NO PLAY in the sun.   Mrs Gavin, our school librarian, is excited about encouraging students to “pick up a book and read”. She has organised book club and a Principal’s Reading Challenge. Information about the challenge will be ex‐plained to students and published in our newsletter. Certificates and prizes are asso‐ciated with this initiative.  National Partnership funding for 2012 will allow our school to:  Create an extra primary class (4).  Have extra staff at our school quali‐

fied to teach subject areas.  Maintain our Reading to Learn pro‐

gram and associated literacy initia‐tives. 

Establish extension projects for stu‐dents. 

 Secondary students have regular PE classes and sport each week. Change room facili‐ties with showers are available for students to use. To play sport and PE the require‐ment is that students wear school sports uniform, appropriate footwear (joggers) and wear a hat.  Students selected in our school team to swim at the next representative level, Cen‐tral Schools’ Carnival (secondary) and Dis‐trict Carnival (primary) will receive a per‐mission note about their selection.   The next level for all students is the West‐ern School Carnival (WSSA secondary ‐2.3.12 & primary 9.3.12). Students are then selected for the WSSA team to swim at the state carnival (Week 11 Term 1).

Primary students, Years 2 – 6 competed at the 3‐Way Swimming Carnival at Cum‐nock last Wednesday. All students en‐joyed the day and participated in events. Three students from our school were awarded an Age Championship: Lochlan Cameron – Junior Boys Age Champion. Shanai Bulter – Senior Girls Age       Champion. Lincoln Monk – Senior Boys Age  Champion.  Our senior students in Years 11 and 12 participated in a tour of Orange Univer‐sity to have an insight into life at univer‐sity. The tour included accommodation facilities, lecture rooms and practical fa‐cilities for dentistry and occupational therapy. All students thought the excur‐sion was a worthwhile experience.   What is PSP? Parents received this flyer last week. It outlined the need for all par‐ents to complete the PSP survey during “Survey Week”. The survey for our school community measures:

Aboriginal families Survey Week is 9 ‐13 March.  A 100% response from parents is needed for our school application to be consid‐ered. Successful schools are funded from 2013 – 2016.  A sample survey for parents to use was attached to the letter parents received.

Parents are reminded that permission notes and any payment for school events and activities are due before the date. Unfortunately students with‐out permission notes / payment may not be per‐mitted to attend the excursion. Parents will NOT be called to follow up the permission note.  Our school notice board has new photos of events and 2012 leaders. Have a look next time you visit.   Helping yourself and others is a great value to rec‐ognise for Australian schools. The teenage years is an exciting time, but it can also be a time of emo‐tion, confusion and stress. The Reach out website, www.reachout.com, has information about family relationships, bullying, sexuality, alcohol, grief and loss. There is also a helpline and live chat help.  Two rules from Bill Gates: 1.  If you mess up, it’s not your parents’ fault, so 

don’t whine about your mistakes, learn from them. 

2.  If you think that your teacher is tough, wait until you get a boss.

CAPTAINS CORNER Throughout the first 2 weeks of school I have been very excited to show the new kindy kids around and ask them how they like being here. According to some, they say they are having a great time! All other students seem to be having fun too! Also, well done everyone on the swimming carnivals—you

3­Way Swimming Carnival  The 3‐way swimming carnival was great fun for Years 2 to 6. We all did our personal best, whether it was 1 lap or 4.   The excitement culminated with every one cheer‐ing YCS relay teams. Yeoval was well represented with Shanai butler, Lincoln Monk and Lochlan Cameron age champions.   We would like to thank Mrs Sargent for organising the day. It is always wonderful to catch up with our friends from Cumnock and St. Columba’s.  Taleah Van Kemenade & Shanai Butler
