Priority Schools Program: SURVEY RETURNS THIS WEEK.

I encourage all parents to return their survey to the school this week. Please don’t let us miss this opportunity to be considered to receive additional funding for our students in 2013 – 2016.

I would like to congratulate our Year 11 students for their attendance and behaviour at the Western Access Camp held on 22nd to 24th March. Mrs Bates praised our students and acknowledged their participation each day at the camp.

We ask parents to support the homework initiative. I am honoured to stand before an assembly and hand out Merit Certificates recognising students for their efforts ad achievements. So far this year I have presented 15 Bronze certificates. For the safety and health of all students in our school, could parents please check their child’s hair for head lice? Need a good book to read? Visit the Book Connection in Macquarie Street, Dubbo. The store has sponsored the Principal’s Reading Challenge in our school with a generous donation of books. Great Work team! Our secondary boy’s soccer team has progressed to the next round of the soccer KO. They won their last game 11‐2. Our girl’s team was unlucky to lose their game but enjoyed the experience. Lochlan Cameron (Junior boys butterfly) and Phoenix Blatch (8 Yr. 50 m freestyle) have been selected in the NARRAF / Gobondery District to swim in their events at the WSSA swimming trials. Hannah Vickers will swim at the CHS Western carnival on Tuesday. Has your child thanked a teacher for tak‐ing them on an excursion this term? I acknowledge the time and effort teach‐ers have committed to planning, organis‐ing and supervising students on excur‐sions this term. Excursions planned for students this term: K/1/2 – Dubbo WP Zoo, Years 2‐6 3‐Way Swimming, K‐12 –school swimming, Years 5‐9 World of Maths, Year 11 WAP camp, Year 7/8 – Macquarie River, Year 7 Wam‐bangalang, Year 3‐6 Sports Gala day, Sec‐ondary soccer KO and water polo. Congratulations teachers for your com‐mitment to supporting students in our school. Results from the Year 8 Essential Secon‐dary Science Assessment (ESSA) have been completed. Parents of 2011 Year 8 students will receive a report in the mail this week. Our Year 8 students achieved at above state average in four of the five areas. Mr David Blowes is available by appoint‐ment to discuss these results with par‐ents. Students are asked to complete home‐work and assessment tasks as part of their course and hand them in on time. 5.3 MATHS LESSONS 6 students from Year 10 have been selected to be in‐volved in Mathematics Video Conference lessons twice a week. These lessons are taught by Mr Michael Baker from Tullibigeal. Other schools involved in the program are Peak Hill, Trundle, Tottenham, Tullamore and Tullibigeal. This program covers topics that often are skimmed over because of time and the large amount of content to be covered in Year 10. This pro‐gram prepares the students in Year 10 to confidently select Mathematics for Years 11 and 12. The students are enjoying the experience of having a lesson on VC and working with other students from other schools. ACCESS CAMP 2012 During Week 5 Year 11 students attended the annual access camp at Sport & Recreation at Lake Burra‐dong. When we arrived at the camp the students were given a card from a normal deck of cards which were used later on in the camp to divide the students into groups for the two night activities (Mini Olym‐pics and Star Wars). Yeoval girls were in a cabin by themselves and Grant shared with Trundle boys. Some lessons were time‐tabled Wednesday before and after lunch. At 3:00 all students participated in activities – canoeing, kay‐aking, grass skiing, low ropes, archery and mountain bike riding. During activities a storm arrived and the group on the water had to bring their canoe or kayak ashore and walk back to the main centre. When we got back there was a black out, fortunately dinner was already prepared and cooked but night activities were of a concern. The power returned 2 hours later and activities went ahead as scheduled. On Thurs‐day students attended lessons and the Hospitality group prepared salads for everyone to go with a bar‐becue for lunch. On these 2 days all the schools in the Access program were involved in lessons and ac‐tivities. On Friday Maths and English classes were scheduled. Usually Friday is a difficult time to have lessons as the students have often had very little sleep but this year they were very responsive to the lessons. I had a great time and found that the camp was a time for socialising with Yeoval students and other Ac‐cess teachers. I was very impressed with the attitude and participation of the Yeoval students and I feel they all enjoyed themselves. I think a number of them were quite surprised that they had such a good time and really enjoyed the mixture if lessons and activities. Some comments from the students: “The camp was great! We had so much fun playing Star Wars and we were exhausted afterwards. We



had fun playing mini Olympics. Classes were fun and we finally had a chance to meet out teachers and get to know them.” Shortened version of Alicia’s experience “Camp was better then I expected and I am glad I went. The best part of the camp was Star Wars, canoe‐ing and low ropes. I met new people from different schools and I had a great time. Lessons were a bit bor‐ing but it was good meeting our VC teachers.” – Alana Activities that were fun at camp was canoeing both days (very tiring), Star Wars – all of us bonding to‐gether and the last night in our cabin. Lessons were sometimes boring and early bedtime was different. ‐ Bella Camp was great because the activities like Star Wars and canoeing and archery were heaps of fun. My les‐sons were great – PDHPE was practical, I understood the Maths lesson and Chemistry we played with ele‐ment cards. ‐ Grant “Access camp was amazing. The best lesson was Child Studies where we made name tags.”Archery and canoeing were great and challenging. “I loved meeting new people and I didn’t want to leave.” Brittany “I enjoyed canoeing, it was fun. The best part of camp was going home.” – Cassandra “We played a game of ultimate ping pong and it was awesome.” Star Wars was a fantastic game. “We ate lots of lollies and we stayed up late.” – Peta “I liked that everyone was nice.” At the end of Star Wars the court proceedings were funny.”Mr Maher was pretty funny and he told me to “Crash tackle Batesy to get the room keys off her.” “On the last night we when from room to room getting group photos and making new friends” – Lisa “Access camp was fun although I thought it was just school but the classes were pretty good and every‐thing we did was awesome. The best thing was playing Star Wars and meeting new people” Emily Access camp was a great experience and we had lots of fun. We had classes, canoeing, Star Wars and Lisa and I capsized our canoe at the start. We made new friends. ‐ Stephannie Access camp was fun. Our team in mini Olympics had the most fun reinventing the games within the rules to make the most of our time. Our team won Star Wars although we started with not enough players to make a force field. Getting up at 5 and not being tired. ‐ Brenda

Crazy hair/Hot dog/Mufti day! As part of the fundraising for the Sydney excursion for Years 9/10 we will be having a crazy hair/hot dog/mufti day. So come to school on Friday 9

March with your craziest hair and in appropriate clothes for school. The cost for coming to school in mufti and with crazy hair is $1.00.

—————————————————————‐‐ Congratulations to our boys and girls soccer teams who travelled to Dubbo for the first round of West‐ern CHS knockout. The girls team the Yeoval Chooks played against a strong side from Peak Hill. Unfortunately the girls went down 8 – 0. There were some standout performances particularly

Kaitlyn Butler in goal, Cassie Pellew and Morgan Mobbs were solid in defence.

The boys team the Yeoval Roosters took on Trangie and were very successful winning the game 11 – 2. Goal scorers included Jack Healey, Josh Berney, Gavin Wright, Jack Berney, Jordon Harvey, Jake Monk and Dylan Wirth. All of the boys played a great game and were well led by skipper Josh Berney, Grant Iles, Anaru Poihakena Jackson and our new star student Gavin Wright. The boys now go on to play the winner of Cobar and Narromine at a date to be decided.

Special thanks to Jock McLaurin for refereeing both games he did a fantastic job.

This year I am looking to unveil a Yeoval Central School Sporting Hall of Fame. The criteria to be nominated and selected is that the person must have attended Yeoval Central School. The person must have represented NSW or Australia, this ex‐cludes people who have attended NSW trials as part of a western team. Send your nominations to the school so that this wall can be started and un‐veiled at the Sports Assembly in Term 3. Well done to Matthew Wykes who competed in the Western CHS matchplay. He played Lewis Stanley in the wet at Wellington, Matt played well but unfortunately lost 7 and 6. The highlight of the day was Matt’s birdie on a long par 5.
