How the different iPhone models used for online shopping affect your conversion rates

Many Researches have shown that iPhone users are more valuable than other phone brand users in the online shopping environment

But the ‘iPhone users’ is a wide category as there are many different iPhone models used today

So is there a difference in the conversion rates made using different iPhone models?

Are there any models that are more valuable than others?

We at Barilliance were curious to investigate this topic, so we conducted a research.

The research examined:

12 iPhone models

>1,200,000 sessions

>10,000 purchases

And what did we find?

A very clear trend…

Conclusion:

The conversion rates improve as the models used for the purchase are newer.

So why is this the trend?

The newer iPhone models are more developed with newer, technologically advanced features

So, they are faster and easier to use than the older iPhone models

…So what?

Besides the overall trend, there are two things we should bear in mind…

1.

iPhone 7 is still quite new so the sample size used is small.

But the starting trend already indicates on a high conversion rate.

2.

Notice the dip in conversion rates for iPhone 5C

What caused the dip?

Perhaps a different feature specific to the iPhone 5C model that makes transactions online difficult to use or a long process.

For conclusion,

newer iPhone models convert more (and thus are more profitable) than older iPhone models

Our recommendation:

- Segment your iPhone users by the models they use

- Focus on the users of newer iPhone models and treat them differently than users of older iPhone models
