The ANP is a senior member of nursing staff able to function as an autonomous practitioner responsible for leading a comprehensive oncology nursing service for cancer patients and their families in Letterkenny General Hospital.

The ANP, as an expert practitioner, is an integral member of the multidisciplinary team, linking hospital care with the community, and is a recognised leader within oncology nursing practice and research .
