Greetings:

I am proud to present the City of Atlanta Department of Parks and Recreation’s 2014-2015 Winter Program Guide.

This winter is all about expanding, and we will celebrate the launch of many successful initiatives, including a number of improvements made to recreational facilities and parks.

The Department of Parks and Recreation recently opened the city’s second turf field at Anderson Park, which features a new track and bleachers and an upgraded digital scoreboard.

I am also excited to announce that with funding from The Coca-Cola Company, DPR launched the city’s first Recreation Play Mobile (a recreation center on wheels). The Play Mobile brings structured activities, sports and games to parks and creates an interactive and fresh air atmosphere that encourages children to go outside and play.

In addition to ensuring that the City of Atlanta fulfills its commitment to providing exceptional recreational programing, my administration will continue to work with Atlanta’s business and philanthropic community to upgrade facilities, expand programming, and provide memorable experiences for every individual, neighborhood, and organization we serve.

Every single day, our parks, greenspaces, and recreation centers are transforming lives and revitalizing Atlanta’s neighborhoods and communities. I encourage our residents to take advantage of all the great recreational opportunities our city has to offer. On behalf of the City of Atlanta, I encourage you to get out and enjoy all the recreational and developmental opportunities offered throughout this winter.

Thank you for your continued support.

Sincerely,

Kasim Reed

Letter from the Commissioner

Greetings:

Winter in Atlanta is a wonderful time to explore all that the Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) has to offer. We are buzzing with excitement about the City of Atlanta’s new recreation initiatives, accomplishments, and another season of stimulating programs and activities.

First, we are excited to announce the launch of our first ATL Parks and Rec Play Mobile. With generous support from The Coca-Cola Foundation and the National Recreation and Parks Association (NRPA), the ATL Parks & Rec Play Mobile is an innovative way to teach our young people the importance of physical fitness in a safe, structured learning environment. All across the city, Parks and Recreation leaders will guide free activities and games for children, including non-traditional sports, fitness demos, arts and crafts, oversized board games and much more.

We are also proud to announce that the Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies (CAPRA) approved Atlanta’s re-accreditation status. The Department works hard to create memorable experiences and exceptional spaces for the residents and visitors of Atlanta to enjoy, and we are so proud of this recognition. We are one of 119 agencies nationally and 7 within Georgia to receive this top honor. Big thanks go to our team members for their positive contributions each and every day.

In addition, we continue to make significant physical improvements to our parks and recreation centers. The newly renovated Anderson Park features the city’s second artificial turf field, updated track, new bleachers and upgraded digital scoreboard. Look out for future announcements of new amenities coming soon.

Through our parks and state-of-the-art recreation facilities and programs, the Department of Parks and Recreation strives to improve and change people’s lives every day. We encourage you to get out, get active, and enjoy all of the activities that Atlanta has to offer.

Yours in Service,

Amy PhuongCommissioner, Department of Parks and RecreationCity of Atlanta
