Perkins Grant

• Federal grant that provides funds for approved career and technical education programs

• Part of a Consortium through Intermediate District 916• CTE teachers participate in professional development

through Intermediate District 916, MDE, CTE Works, and local companies

• Field trips • Resources (based on approved requests) such as a

new screen printer this Fall valued at $7,000

Work Based Learning

• Work Seminar and Work Experience courses prepare students to be effective employees in the workplace,

• Help students identify potential careers/jobs,• Make students aware of the following workplace

standards: labor laws, effectively completing job applications, writing resumes/cover letters/thank you letters, interviewing skills, job performance and employee evaluations, budgeting/paychecks/taxes, and workplace safety

Genesys Works

• Empowers high school students to achieve college and career success through skills training and meaningful work experiences at top companies in the Twin Cities

• Skills training, internships, college and career coaching and alumni support

• Students participating in this program attend school for a portion of the day and work at a local corporation, such as Target Headquarters, for a portion of the day

SPARK-Y Aquaponics

• Through the ENCORE program, funded by the 21st Century Community Learning Center Grant

• Pairs hands-on agriculture systems, such as aquaponics, with curriculum focused on sustainability,

entrepreneurship, and STEM-based (science, technology, engineering, and math) learning

• Students have designed and built a working aquaponics system

Strive

• Offered by the Fridley-Columbia Heights Rotary

• Students and mentors meet once a month

• Goal is for students to improve their grades; scholarships are awarded to those who show the most improvement in their GPA during the first three quarters

• Further incentives are offered through scholarships for a college education at Anoka Ramsey Community College, North Hennepin Community College and Hennepin Technical College

4H Youth Teaching Youth

• Youth Teaching Youth 4H program teaches high school students about cooking, nutrition and youth development

• Students use these skills to teach CHPS elementary students about nutrition and cooking

• Program is offered as an ENCORE class after school

Northeast Metro 916• Columbia Heights High School students have the opportunity to

explore a wide variety of careers through a collaboration with Northeast Metro 916

• Prepares students for careers in business, industry, health, and public services by integrating academic learning with technical education

• Students earn two different kinds of credit at the same time while attending the center– credits toward high school graduation for satisfactorily

completing the school year at Northeast Metro Secondary Technical Center

– Century Community and Technical College level credits may also be earned
