The main application of this extremely compact base station is to help deliver an improved mobile broadband experience by enhancing coverage and capacity both outdoor and indoor. Flexi Lite BTS can be used to add capacity cells in urban and dense urban areas if new frequency carriers for macro cells are not available. It can be also deployed to cover traffic hotspots or to fill network coverage holes as well as improve coverage inside buildings, for example at airports and railway stations. It provides an efficient way to meet market growth while simultaneously offloading voice and data traffic from the mobile Communications Service Providers (CSP) macro network. Flexi Lite BTS can be used for both micro cell and pico cell applications.

Flexi Lite BTS is all-in-one device equipped with System Module functionality, RF module, and built-in IP transport that enable a cost-effective site solution and high-speed connections.

Output power is high enough to support indoor coverage building from outdoor sites. It is also high enough to drive distributed antenna system for indoor coverage. It also supports 2TX MIMO.

Figure 1 Flexi Lite BTS 2100

Typical micro-cell outdoor antenna deployments are below roof-top in heights of about 5 to 15 meters above the ground level and on poles. Typical indoor deployments include exhibition halls, shopping malls, large office spaces, airports. Antenna height in indoor installations is typically from 2 to 5 meters above ground level. In indoors Flexi Lite BTS is to be mounted either on the wall or the ceiling or connected to an external distributed antenna system.

    Benefits

7 BenefitsFlexi Lite BTS provides a vast number of benefits for the operator.

Easy installationFlexi Lite BTS offers new site deployment possibilities thanks to its compact size and light weight (approx. 11 kg (24.25 lb.)), which makes it easy and fast to deploy. Active cooling enables minimum installation clearance which allows Flexi Lite BTS to be installed in small areas like crowded sites, utility rooms or inside the cabinets. This small base station can be also installed back to back at compact multiband and multiradio sites, which can bring further savings in the form of lower and easier site acquisition and rental costs and allows CSPs to extend coverage to areas that were previously inacces-sible. Further, Flexi Lite BTS incurs lower installation cost as it can be deployed by a single person and also reduces running costs as it consumes little power and yet delivers high capacity. Additionally, it can power P+E-compliant devices on the site.

The small factor of the BTS allows making it unnoticeable in locations such as exterior walls, billboards, lamp-posts, and bus stops.

The BTS can be installed in any orientation. However, in outdoor installation protection against rain has to be provided. Without protection the cables must be faced down.

Power source for other devicesFlexi Lite BTS can also provide the power to an external device if it meets P+E require-ments.

Low acoustic noiseFlexi Lite BTS uses silent active cooling.

Easy commissioningFlexi Lite BTS supports wizard-based commissioning via the BTS Site Manager. The configuration can be saved to a file which can be used later as a template.

Auto-connection and auto-configuration is supported as in Flexi Multiradio BTS or Flexi Multiradio 10 BTS.

Reliable operationSimplicity and speed of maintenance procedures improve operation reliability. Mainte-nance is improved by module integration and automatic fault detection procedures. Special attention has been paid to Flexi Lite BTS software start time, reducing, for instance, downtime when a new software package is put into use.

Software featuresFlexi Lite BTS with SW version WL7.0 2.0 has RU30 EP2 feature parity. For the full list of features and their descriptions, see WCDMA RAN Feature List.

    Management and software

12 Management and softwareManagement of Flexi Lite BTS can be done locally through local management port (LMP) or remotely through NetActTM. This is the same as in Flexi Multiradio BTS or Flexi Multiradio 10 BTS.

BTS automatically detects SW version number, HW product code, version number and serial number during the start-up and this data can be retrieved remotely. BTS super-vises its internal operation, so that any malfunctioning or loss-of-service is detected and reported to network management.

Figure 5 shows BTS Site Manager which is used to manage Flexi commissioning, super-vision, maintenance, and testing, as well as transmission configuration.

Flexi Lite BTS Product Description Management and software

    Id:0900d805809fcf8eConfidential

12.1 Software updatesNew SW versions can be downloaded while BTS is working. The software can be loaded either locally, with the BTS Site Manager software, or remotely from NetActTM. Site visits are unnecessary for routine operation and maintenance (O&M) tasks.

Typically, local software download is done only when the NetActTM connection is missing, for example, during the commissioning process. Software can be downloaded as a background operation without interrupting the BTS operation. The new software can be activated at any time. Reboot is required in order to put the software into use.

Flexi Lite BTS only uses downloadable software. All software can be downloaded and updated from NetActTM. This procedure is centralized, meaning that several BTSs can be upgraded with the new software either simultaneously or one by one.

Flexi Lite BTS keeps the current and previous software packages in its flash memory. Either of these software versions can be activated at any time. Reboot is required in order to put the software into use. Updated software (current and previous) in the BTS can be seen through BTS Site Manager/NetActTM.

RAN2423: SW Verification Agent ensures that only integrity-verified software can be installed and run in Flexi Lite BTS and no malicious code can be inserted.

12.2 External alarms and controlsBTS inputs and outputs can be configured and tested locally at the BTS site with BTS Site Manager. External alarm inputs are used for collecting customized alarms in the BTS. Flexi Lite BTS provides six external alarm inputs and two external control outputs. The interface used is HDMI.

In normal operation, the external alarms and control outputs of the BTS are managed from NetActTM after they have been configured.

12.3 CountersCounters are used to monitor performance of a BTS in the network. They can measure, for example, the number of MAC-hs PDUs correctly delivered with more than 5 retrans-missions, number of rejected radio link setup requests because of congestion.

For the full list of counters and their descriptions, see Flexi Lite BTS Counters.

Counters can be monitored through NetActTM.
