Since then, many apps for Apple products have been launched, but we’ve only had news of one exhibitor at this event who is showing Android-based apps - it will be interesting to see how this has changed by next year’s event. As ever, training plays an important part of the event, and this year, there is a large Hub Seminar Theatre at the back of the hall. Over 90 hours of training is being provided, and out of the 29 CEDIA sessions on offer, 19 are new courses and panel debates for the benefit of technicians, project managers and business owners. Another special focus of the show is on 3D, with two dedicated zones featuring sthe technology. Although these are early days for 3D, we are convinced that the format will become pervasive, and your younger customers in particular, will be demanding it in future. Designed to be simple to program and install, the system can save up to 18% on energy usage, and also includes an iPad app. ELAN (MidwichHome stand B7) is showing the ELAN g! series home control system with built-in multi-language support. Home controlHAI (Aldous stand B4a) has expanded its international offerings with HAI Omni-Bus lighting products, ZigBee-based home automation energy management products, the Snap-Link Mobile for Android, and the iPod Dock for the Hi-Fi 2 multiroom audio system. Legrand (stand D10a) is demonstrating the Arteor wiring device and home automation range. This covers everything from basic switches through to the most advanced automation systems, and now offers an energy management system which monitors the use of gas, and the use and production of electricity. The company is also showing Bticino door entry solutions, including the latest in IP-based technology. Its new open protocol, which allows different technologies to talk to different systems, is being introduced at the show. Legrand is also unveiling its latest iPod, iPad and iPhone apps, which give the user complete control of their home wherever they are in the world.

To simpli fy automation projects, Crestron (stand E10) is showing the Prodigy range of affordable home control products. The wireless Prodigy integrates music, movies, lights, and thermostats, and is designed to be simple to install and easy to use, with minimal programming. Crestron is also showing the new DigitalMedia 8G+ as the next generation of its high-output, one-wire digital AV network. Offering a broader choice of cabling options, DigitalMedia 8G+ makes the implementation of a DM network even easier.

Vimar Automation (IMP stand C7) is offering the Italian-styled Well Contact Plus range of KNX products including touchscreens, pushbuttons, electronic thermostats, IR movement detectors, access control devices, transponder card readers, programmers and cards, actuators and relays, dimmers and sensors, power supplies and couplers, as well as a new range of dedicated software suites for building supervision and management.

I f your interest is in Mac-based home automat ion , Savant (RGB Communications stands A1 and A6) offers the industry’s only native Apple-based control and automation solution. The Savant Blueprint software configures and controls any AV component or subsystem, and its TrueControl app supports two-way control between iPads, iPhones, and iPod touches.

Controllers and accessoriesCrestron (stand E10) is showing the MC3, featuring the all-new Core 3 control engine. Designed for integrating home entertainment, AV distribution, security and environmental systems, the MC3 has built-in infiNET EX wireless technology, onscreen display and onboard media rendering.

For mounting the iPad horizontally, iRoom (Habitech stand B8) is launching the new Landscape iPad2 Dock. Available in piano black, apple white and brushed steel, this dock is essentially designed for the new iPad 2, although it can support iPad 1 using an easy-to-assemble adapter kit.

URC (AWE Europe stands E3 and E6) is showcasing the Complete Control range of controllers and processors. The sleek and elegant MX-5000i network controller is on display alongside the premium MX-6000i and more basic mid-level products, as well as the new Total Control range that has a focus on whole-house control.

RTI (Invision UK stands B9 and B10) is launching next-generation controllers with new feature sets and a two-way KNX-compatible driver, distributed audio systems, and the new RTiPanel app for control from the home and beyond. The two-way driver for KNX-compatible devices uses an Ethernet network as a communication link between KNX-compatible devices and any RTI XP series processor.

KNX technology is also on display by Gira (stand C8). The company offers electro-technical installation products such as switches, socket outlets, dimmers and motion detectors, as well as blind control systems, alarm systems, radio bus systems, intercom systems, LED illumination and access control.

Specialist in tablet-based control software, ControlFX (stand F9) is showing a portfolio of new two-way modules for multiroom, home cinema, intelligent lighting, motorised curtains and blinds, and security, based on the Apple iPad.

Demopad Software (stand C2) is showing the DemoDesign and DemoControl applications which provide a platform to create GUIs for Apple iPad/iPhone/iPod touch. This enables installers to create and edit their own control systems without the need for a highly-skilled programmer.

An ordinary IR remote control can be given RF capability thanks to NexGen (stand D7) Xray Remote Extenders. By simply replacing one of the remote’s AA or AAA batteries with a supplied battery transmitter, the user can go from room to room and control components up to 100 feet away.

LightingPhilips Dynalite (AWE Europe stands E6 and E8) is demonstrating a sample of the extensive Philips Dynalite range with an interactive display, showing how lighting, TV and audio can be integrated into a ‘mood experience’. It includes a Philips Dynalite DDLE 802 DIN rail load controller with eight circuits connected to it, and a schematic overlay showing how it can control lights in a number of rooms. Also included is a DDMC 802 multi-purpose controller connected to a variety of devices including leading/trailing edge load controls, relay control, fan controls, and ballast controls. A custom-designed training case with a series of LEDs and pushbutton panels illustrates a building layout. By plugging a laptop into it, users can test control programs prepared in the Philips Dynalite EnvisionProject commissioning software. Also being promoted are new developments including training courses and other benefits associated with the Philips Dynalite Dimension Dealer programme.

Rako Controls (stand B4) is exhibiting its seamless wired/wireless lighting controls, plus how it can control the latest generation of LED lighting devices. In addition, the company is demonstrating control of a Sonos system from a Rako keypad with the new wired or the classic wireless Rako control system.

First-t ime exhibitor Think Simple (stand E1a) is showcasing the Vitrum range of domestic control switches. Vitrum controls lighting, air conditioning, energy consumption, video entry, CCTV and more. Communication between all Vitrum devices is based on the Z-Wave wireless standard.

Multiroom audio and videoSonos (stand D8) is showcasing its current product portfolio alongside the latest supported music services, with opportunities for product demonstrations and briefings with Sonos executives. Sonos offers a range of easy-to-install products for wireless entertainment. The company is showing how, by supporting over 100,000 radio stations and a number of internet music streaming services including Spotify, Last.fm, Deezer and most recently, Aupeo and Stitcher - two innovative and global radio services - a Sonos system is ideal for allowing users to share and stream music all over the house, without the hassle of wires.

Another ‘no new wires’ multiroom audio product is Renovia from NuVo (Habitech stand B8). Based on HomePlug powerline carrier (PLC) technology, Renovia uses a single, centralised hub and then a 50W independent zone amplifier for each intended listening area. Also on show is NuVo’s new Music Port Elite MPS4-E music content aggregator and streaming device. Compatible with Crestron, AMX, and URC via IP control protocol, it offers cloud synchronisation so that users can access libraries of audio content from multiple locations.

Xantech (MidwichHome stand B7) is debuting the Quick Configuration software installation/configuration mode for its MX88 IP-enabled multizone audio/video controller. This allows the installer to instantly configure the MX88 for multiple zones and sources throughout a residence without the need for an external computer. The MX88 can be used to control every aspect of the home, including audio/video, lighting, drapes, HVAC, home security and video surveillance cameras.

ATON (MidwichHome stand B7) is introducing the AH66T Kit as an affordable pre-programmed whole-home ‘Music and More’ system. It features the AH66T Multi-Source Multi-Zone Controller, plus six OLED2 full colour touchpads, with built-in programming to run sources such as the iPort and Lutron RadioRA 2 for a first-time or add-on audio system with iPod and lighting control capability.

LoudspeakersVelodyne (Redline stand D5) is showing the new Digital Drive Plus for purist high-end bass delivery, featuring an integrated digital calibration system designed to work with any room. Velodyne offers a range of discrete custom installation subwoofers with the ability to add reference quality bass as part of a concealed audio solution.

For those wishing to demonstrate the sonic qualities of an Amina loudspeaker, Amina (Redline stand D5) has a new point of sale unit, the Acylic5X. This provides installers with the ability to display and demonstrate the working product to clients, which otherwise would be invisible when installed.

Artison (Redline stand D5) is debuting the DM-LCR panel as a discreet sound source for the latest generation of ultra-thin TVs. Artison’s patented Dual Mono Centre technology combines left and right driver arrays to produce three-channel performance in a discreet, compact and easily-installable package.

Stealth Acoustics (Habitech stand B8) is promoting the Linear Response series, for which the company has recently released critical performance measurements on its LR6 and LR3 full-range invisible speakers. The Stealth LR6 is a 6-inch two-way, flat front loudspeaker measuring 12x16-inches, designed to replace a segment in a wall or ceiling. Fitting into depths of 3.25-inch or deeper, the LR6 uses a traditional cone woofer and a custom carbon-fibre based high-frequency stage to energise a durable flat front panel which radiates hi-fidelity

sound even when covered with typical wall or ceiling paint and coverings. The Stealth LR3 model is an 8-inch three-way device, employing a balanced mid-range drive which increases the speaker’s directivity index at critical speech frequencies. As a promotion for the Home Technology Event, Stealth is offering attendees the option to purchase one pair of LR6s for GB£295 ex VAT instead of the usual trade price of GB£695!

Still on the discreet theme, Current Audio (Habitech stand B8) is launching a series of FastLoc speakers. These include the FastLoc LCR in-wall speakers with pivoting tweeter and a grille with a very small exposed plastic bezel. The 6.5-inch in-ceiling speaker range has an adjustable tweeter that can be dipole or bipole. A 6.5-inch square-profile speaker range is also available.

Artcoustic (stand E14) is showing a selection of loudspeakers, including the Superstar Passive and DF Multi. The brand new Pastels Collection, shown on the Diablo Target, offers striking and contemporary colour options for the entire range, ensuring the client’s system looks as good as it sounds. Following on from a successful 3D Event at the UK Artcoustic showroom, the full Spitfire range is being showcased, as well as an insight into the full design support Artcoustic can offer for these installations. Demonstrations of the Spitfire Venue system are continually running in the 3D zone alongside JVC, Onkyo, Evolve, Control FX, Front Row and Screen Excellence.

Niles (MidwichHome stand B7) is introducing the third generation of the DS Directed Soundfield Ceiling-Mount Loudspeaker line and the new ICS Ceiling Mount Loudspeaker. Niles is also announcing that it is now shipping the IntelliControl ICS IM-NET Module as a source integration module for the GXR2 MultiZone Receiver. IM-NET plays popular digital music file formats stored on the home network and streams music from Internet radio services.

in 8, 10 and 12-inch models. Tuned for both low-frequency home theatre effects and powerhouse musical bass lines, these subwoofers boast up to 600W peak power. The Sunfire Universal Wireless Subwoofer Kit is also being introduced. This eliminates the need for new wires and comprises a receiver and transmitter that are compatible with any third-party powered subwoofer.

In addition to a newly-widened portfolio of both CI and floor-standing loudspeakers from KEF, AWE Europe (stands E3 and E6) is showing its own brand, Kinetik Labs. This includes CI speakers, as well as IR distribution kits, flatscreen wall brackets, and now CI speaker cable too.

Home CinemaSalamander (Habitech stand B8) is offering home theatre seating in three designs, namely Matteo, Alex and Talia. The design is flexible, so multiple combinations of seating arrangements can be specified to accommodate any room shape or size. There are also four fabrics to chose from and a range of colours in each fabric.

Genesis Technologies (stands F3A and F4) is showcasing a range of home cinema and multiroom products. Stand F4 comprises a reference-level home cinema system featuring DLP projection from Digital Projection, high-performance audio from PRO Audio Technology, audio processors from Audio Design Associates (ADA), custom projector screens from Image Screens and cinema seating from CinemaTech.

Stand F3A sports products for wider audio and video applications, including architectural televisions from Agath, contrast-enhancing screens from DNP Supernova, architectural speakers from Wisdom Audio, and HDMI matrix switching from Key Digital. In addition Control 4 is on the stand demonstrating its latest software updates and in-wall touchscreens.

In the first 3D Zone, JVC (3D Zone 1) is presenting and demonstrating D-ILA projectors designed to provide the ultimate in cinema-like picture quality backed by the

latest THX 3D certification. All three models, the DLA-X3, DLA-X7 and DLA-X9, feature impressive native contrast ratios, with the top model delivering 100,000:1 performance.

The second 3D zone is playing host to Panasonic (3D Zone 2), with its new range of Life Size Full HD 3D screens, the VX200 and UX1 series. In this zone, the company is also showing the world’s largest plasma display, the 152-inch TH-152UX1 - the first time this screen will be seen at a UK event.

SIM2 UK (stand F5) is ‘Making the 3D experience magical’ with a 3D cinema from Anthem AV Solutions. The company is debuting the SIM2 Lumis 3D-S projector, which uses triple flash with active shutter glasses, and this is being partnered with the new Black Diamond G3 3D projection screen from Screen Innovations.

In addition to offering new products from its leading brands, Marata Vision (stand F3 and WS1) is showing a full HD 3D cinema. This features the Sony VPL-VW90ES 3D projector, and the JVC DLA-X7 projector.

TV displaysSeura (Redline Stand D5) offers luxury mirror screens in distinctive designs. The Premier Series and Enhanced Series boast mirror-quality float glass, delivering a bright TV picture that becomes a high-quality mirror when switched off. Seura products can transform existing screens into custom-designed mirrors with a choice of frames.

Unicam AV (stand C20a) is showing Ad Notam’s Mirror Image mirror TV and bespoke glass products. Key features such as high-quality ultra-slim LED monitors, gapless screen-to-glass fitment and easy-to-use installation methods are being demonstrated. Unicam AV is also unveiling its latest concept in specialist AV furniture with integrated hidden Amina speakers.

Also showing mirror TVs is Impact Screen Solutions (stand B1). The full collection of Italian-designed NEOD mirrors features a Loewe HD TV, and is designed to elegantly hide the TV into any interior, using different shapes, sizes and designs.

For large screens, AWE Europe (stands E3 and E6) is demonstrating the Panasonic TH-65VX300 65-inch 3D plasma, the Panasonic TH-85VX200 85-inch and TH-103VX200 103-inch 3D display. AWE Europe is also involved in the Panasonic 3D exhibit, featuring the world’s largest plasma display, the TH-152UX1 152-inch 4k2k 3D screen, and is also showing new Viera screens including the VT30 neo PDP TVs with new sleek design, RS232, discrete control and ISF calibration. Samsung is also represented with its LED Elite screens sporting a 5mm bezel.

Media serversDF Solutions (AWE Europe stands E3 and E6) is showing the new Base3D Media Server which now offers full, non-copyright, in-tray Blu-ray 3D ripping support with both in-tray and NAS playback, together with TrueHD and DTS-HD bit-streaming. Spotify integrates with the product’s 3D GUI and on the new small LINK clients for compact and affordable HD multiroom distribution of both stored and streamed content.

The new Autonomic (Invision UK stands B9 and B10) two-zone MMS-2 Mirage Media Server combines traditional server functionality with Internet cloud technology to provide users with global access to their content as well as streaming media services. Users can manage and control their music libraries via an iPad or PC, or via RS232 or IP using popular home control and multiroom audio systems such as RTI, AMX, Crestron and Control4.

Racks and liftsAV Racks (Habitech stand B8) is showing its Rollarack and Classic product range. These racks have threaded profiles that use M6 nuts. They are designed to be simple to specify and offer a balance between quality, convenience and price. Bespoke products can be manufactured within ten working days.

A selection of TV lifts and ceiling drop or hinge mechanisms is offered by Future Automation (stand D12). The new PH2 projector hinge allows for a vertical projector

installation within a wall. Also on show are new speaker mounts and rack accessories, and marine-suitable and hotel-ready products.

Cable and wirelessFS Cables (stand C16) is promoting a wide range of cables for home automation and building control, and is launching new HD multimedia composite coaxial cables featuring multiple elements such as CAT5e/CAT6, digital coax, building control or fibre.

For 3DTV support, Rainbow Fish Fiber Optic (stand D11a) is exhibiting fibre optic HDMI cable for distances of 6m and longer. The cable is designed to be sleek and elegant, and easily hidden when connected to HDMI-connected products, blending in easily when tucked neatly under/along skirting boards.

Euronetwork (stand B2a) is showing a range of latest-specification high-speed HDMI cables and high-speed HDMI with Ethernet cables.

Distribution and switchingConnectivity UK (stand C15) is offering Just Add Power HD over IP 2G as the only HDMI over IP technology to have been approved by HDMI.org, passing the official HDMI ATC 1.4 testing certification standards, including video performance. Upgrades to the 2G platform include fast-switching IP drivers from Janus Technologies and the forthcoming 3D Manager HDMI 1.4 upgrade module. 3D Manager combines 3D-VIP’s technology with the Just Add Power 2G HD over IP solution to deliver a distributed 3D solution for a 3D viewing experience using any standard HDTV or projector, whether it is 3D compatible or not. The 3D Manager is available as a complete turnkey package, including 3D encoder, synchnodes, emitters and four pairs of glasses.

Unicam AV (stand C20a) i s representing leading brands in AV switching, distribution and conversion, including HDMI switchers, distribution amplifiers and receivers form CYP, the Grandbeing 8x8 HDbaseT matrix and Audio Authority’s latest 4x4 HDMI matrix.

Grandbeing (Invision UK stands B9 and B10) is showing an extensive range of HD distribution solutions via CAT5, CAT6 and coax, including RS232 and IP integration protocols for popular third party control systems. Its new BIZ1000/1100 and 1200 HDBaseT matrix solutions can carry Full HD, audio, Ethernet, IR and RS232 via a single UTP CAT5/6 cable with constant HDCP and up to 48-bit colour depth, plus 3D support.

The Sonnex from Crestron (stand E10) blends high-performance digital audio processing, full-matrix switching and high-powered amplification into a single component. Designed as a new generation of multiroom audio distribution with significantly reduced hardware and software cabling, Sonnex transmits 64 channels of uncompressed 24-bit HD audio across a single shielded CAT5 cable.

Vision HD (Habitech stand B8) is exhibiting the new range of Vision HD HDBaseT matrix switchers including the 8x8, 8x16 and 16x16. These switchers will have the new coax and fibre cards for runs of up to 5000m.

CYP Europe (Unicam AV stand C20a, Alltrade stand C1 and TDI Tremiver stand C3) is represented by a number of companies at the show. The company prides itself on using only the best chipsets and materials to provide products that will perform to the highest standard for the lifespan of the installation. CYP has over 200 advanced AV distribution solutions specialising in HDMI distribution, HDMI over CAT6, systems format conversion, SDI integration, HD scalers, digital-to-analogue conversion and much more. It is also offering a new range of digital signage solutions and professional SDI conversion products.

Over the coming year, Smart-e (stand D6a) is launching the Smart Digital Solution (SDS) series. The range offers high-quality HDMI switching and distribution products using a single CAT (i.e. 5e/6/7/8) cable. It is able to accommodate video and audio signals in both digital and analogue formats, is modular in terms of number and

type of inputs/outputs, and can be expanded on-site. The smart-e SDS-8x8 matrix is a multiformat CAT modular distribution switch that allows the mixing and matching of analogue and digital AV signals, and combines local and remote connections within one unit. Smart-e is also launching a series of transmitter/receiver extenders.

Future Shop (stand D6b) is offering connectivity solutions from Atlona Technologies. Atlona products are focused on connectivity through a variety of signal formats and types, and are suitable for residential, commercial and government projects.

Pakedge (Invision UK stands B9 and B10) is debuting the WAP-W5N wireless access point and CTL-W5N controller. These incorporate virtual cell technology to tie the operation of all of the wireless access points in a home network together so that they all appear as a single wireless access point to a device (client) such as a laptop, iPad, touchpanel, or a Wi-Fi phone using VoIP, for glitch-free roaming over the entire network.

SecurityBespoke Telecoms (stand B13) is

demonstrating the benefits of integrating a telephone system with gate and door entry units, cameras and network recorders. The latest Panasonic touchscreen phone is on display for visitors to witness how a snapshot is recorded on the screen and can be reviewed at a later time.

Specialist in automation systems for gates, doors and barriers, CAME UK (stand C18) is launching the HEI home automation system for residential properties and small businesses. Customers can become an approved HEI Centre which entitles them to additional benefits, including free training, a higher discount and free customer referrals.

BPT Security Systems (stand B14) is offering door entry ranging from off-the-shelf boxed kits, to bespoke systems for multiple blocks. It is showcasing the new Xip IP products, and unveiling seamless integration with Crestron control systems via TCP/IP.
