Issue 5 - Term 1 - Week 10 Friday, 3 April 2020
Principal’s Report It has been an incredible fortnight since our last
newsletter. Thank you to all of our students, families
and staff for their efforts and understanding over the
past few weeks. We are all extremely grateful to our
families for taking on board the challenge of working
and learning from home under such extreme
conditions. I am very pleased
and proud to say that our entire
community has worked together
and taken on the importance of
social distancing and staying at
home unless necessary.
Thank you to all of our families for taking time out to
take our school calls and respond to our Classroom
Dojo and School Stream messages and information. It
is important that we continue to check in with our
students and ensure they have regular contact with our
school and staff as well as are working through their
learning from home work packs. We do understand
that this may not happen every day and that our
families have taken on a mammoth task of managing
and balancing work, family and school commitments,
in a brand new environment. We appreciate you all
making this our new normal for a little while. Whilst it is
ok to miss some of the work sent home and take a
break, it is important that we keep up the continuity of
learning for our students. As you are aware we are still
required to mark student attendance, any students
participating in learning from home activities and
engaging regularly with our school will be marked as
participating in flexible learning. If you child is unwell or
is taking an extended break from learning for home we
need to change their attendance accordingly, please
contact us here at school if you have any questions.
We will continue posting important updates on our
School Stream App, please take some time to ensure
your app is updated and you are using it as a registered
user. This allows us to contact you directly if needed
via our app messenger service.
Have a great weekend everyone, please ensure you
take time out for yourselves and stay safe.

In our classrooms…
Infants Class
Our Owlets have all been busy working and learning from home and at school with lots of exciting adventures happening at home and at school. Our students have all been working on creating book reviews, identifying and looking at key information to share. This week we have all worked on creating a piece of pizza to share our thoughts on our favourite books. Next week we are looking at creating a layered cake! Yum! Our maths focus has been on looking at our number talks and using and learning about number patterns. We have also looked at probability and what chances there are of events happening. Is it likely that it will rain today? Thank you to all of our families who have continued working on their family crest and family tree projects for our history unit of work. Keep up the great work everyone! Owlets have been looking at the Earth, Sun and Moon. A fun activity is to trace the shadow of a favourite toy then repeat throughout the day. Label tracings with the time it was drawn. See it change as the Earth rotates. One thing that will keep happening regardless! Mrs Smith & Mrs Pugh
Primary Class Thank you to all of our Raptors for working so well from home and at school. It has been great to see so many students interacting with our daily Dojo Posts and completing tasks. Thank you to our families who have returned or organised to return work packs to our school for marking. In Science Raptors are finishing their science reports. All information is on Google Classroom. 2 students have already submitted their reports…well done. Hopefully the others will come in shortly. There is a marking guide but don’t get stressed about that as some of the expectations and language will be challenging. Just DO YOUR BEST. Please remember the importance of your family’s mental and emotional health in these changing conditions. Finding a new balance of exercise, mental stimulation, good food and relaxation is essential for a strong immune system. Mostly… STAY POSITIVE… and have some fun with each other. There will also be stressful moments but these will pass as we remember to be grateful for the family and home we have.
Happy days, Mrs Scullion and Mrs Pugh
Challenge accepted, working from home is awesome!
Check out some of our new learning spaces! Great work everyone!
We will post some more pictures in our next newsletter!
Thank you for sharing!

HOME CONNECTIVITY SURVEY Please follow the link to our School Stream App to
fill in the home connectivity survey.
This is vital to our planning processes as we look at
ways to best suit our community to deliver learning
materials and lessons to our students.
If you do not have our app please see the questions
below and respond by phoning, emailing or taking a
photo of your answers and sending them via School
Stream or email. Gladstone-
We are looking at supporting our families in any way
that we can to stay connected. Please contact us if
you have any concerns or issues. Where possible
we will make arrangements to lend out necessary
equipment. Some families have already been in
contact with us and have loaned out technology
devices to make use of for school work.
NEWS FROM THE LIBRARY
I hope you find time to share my book readings that are posted on class DOJO. Thank you to the students who help with the production of these presentations.
SPORTS NEWS The Plovers are happily minding their eggs with only the weekly stress of Robert’s ride-on. I hope you are getting creative in ways to stay fit and continuing to improve basic skills such as throwing, catching, striking, skipping etc. If you need any equipment I am sure we can arrange a loan from our well stocked sports shed.
GARDEN NEWS Last week we planted rows of snow peas. They will be a delicious and healthy treat. Growing seeds is a fabulous and easy thing to do with your children. Plant in small pots to germinate while you spend some time in the yard getting a small plot prepared. Start small and you will soon find out how rewarding growing your own food can be. Silverbeet and Italian parsley are very hardy and productive.
