The Shire of Carnarvon is looking to recruit a part-time Library Programs and Events Officer. This position provides support to the Coordinator and Library Team with the planning, promotion and delivery of library programs, events and services. The position is also required to deliver a high standard of service to library customers and assist in the efficient operation of the library and its services. To be successful in this role, candidates will need to demonstrate the following:

• Practical experience in a similar role

• Excellent customer service skills

• Well-developed computer skills, including the ability to design marketing and promotional material in a wide range of formats, including social media and website content.

This position would suit someone who enjoys variety and challenges, someone who is flexible, and embraces change and, overall, someone who is looking to make a real contribution in a small, diverse regional community. Depending on your qualifications and experience, a base salary of between $52,138.22-$56,670.09 per annum (pro rata) is offered which is exclusive of allowances (as per Shire of Carnarvon Policies) plus Superannuation (up to 11.50%) and five weeks annual leave with loading. Responsible to: Coordinator Library Services Supervision of: N/A Internal Liaison: Shire employees, and Volunteers External Liaison: Customers, Other Public Libraries, State Library of WA, Schools, Tertiary Institutions, Business and community groups

5.0 Extent of Authority:

• Operates under the direction of the Coordinator Library Services within established guidelines and policies of the Shire.

• Represents the Shire on working groups, forums and project management teams and emergency co-ordination, as required.

6.0 POSITION OBJECTIVES

• To support the Coordinator and Library Team with the planning, promotion and delivery of library programs, events and services which reflect the Shire of Carnarvon community needs, in keeping with the Shire’s Community Strategic Plan and Public Libraries WA Strategy.

• To promote the library as a safe space which supports lifelong learning programs while striving to deliver excellent customer service and continuous improvement in the workplace.

8.0 KEY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES Programs and Events Duties

• Support the planning, promotion and delivery of programs and events which cater for the needs of a diverse community, encouraging participation of all groups and individuals.

• Research and identify community needs and trends within the Shire of Carnarvon and align programs and events to meet these needs.

• Be responsible for the design and development of marketing and promotional material in a wide range of formats, including social media and website content.

• Prepare suitable material and/or write short newsletter/website articles.

• Assist with the coordination of Library volunteers and their participation in library programs and events.

• Collect, record and maintain program and events statistics for the library service and contribute towards reports as required.

• Assist with the preparation and acquittal of funding applications for programs and events as required.

• Assist, as required, with public functions conducted by the library and gallery and attend to enquiries by customers via phone, email or in person in relation to the above duties.

• Liaise with internal staff and teams to ensure a consistent approach to the development, management and marketing of programs and events.

• Other duties as directed. Library and Gallery Duties: As required:

• Undertake rostered Service Desk duties, including loan of resources, reference and general enquiries from both internal and external library customers.

• Shelving library materials and maintaining general order and tidiness of library resources and shelves.

• Processing new library stock, magazines and donations and repair of stock.

• Assist with the selection, processing, and delivery of loans for library patrons located in the Shire of Carnarvon remote locations.

• Processing incoming and outgoing library stock exchanges from the State Library of WA.

• Assist with the issue of overdue notices and accounts to recover items or the cost of those items.

• Receive and receipt monies from computer use, printing, photocopying, scanning, sale of items, and payments for lost and damaged stock.

• Processing of incoming and outgoing interlibrary loans including locating and actioning the requests on the relevant computer system.

• Assist with the production of correspondence and library documents.

• Assist the public with the selection of library materials to meet their needs, in using library equipment, and in accessing library e-resources.

• Assist as required with the delivery of library services, including promotions, displays, and programmed activities.

• Complete library and gallery opening and closing procedures.

• Take personal responsibility and collaborate with others in applying skills and knowledge.

• Demonstrate a willingness to be flexible and fit into a variety of roles to meet the library’s operational requirements.

• Other duties as directed.

NOTE: Employees may be required to undertake other duties within the limits of their skill, competence and training, consistent with their band level, in any area of the Shire administration.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT Conditions of employment may include but not limited to the following:

• Employed under the conditions of Local Government Industry Award 2010

• Shire of Carnarvon Band 7

• A 6-month probationary period will apply

• 16-hour week

• 5 weeks annual leave, plus 17 ½ % loading per annum.

• Depending on your qualifications and experience, a base salary of between $52,138.22-$56,670.09 10 days (approximately) sick leave per annum.

• Council subsidies the cost of uniforms – As per Council Policy.

• No housing is provided for in the position however a housing subsidy applies – As per Council Policy.

• A district allowance of $1,020 pa is payable. Should your partner be either unemployed or not claim a district allowance from their employer, you may claim a further $1,020 for your partner.

• Superannuation: - - Superannuation Guarantee (SGC) payable at 9.50% of Employee Salary is offered – payable

by the Council. Optional Superannuation in addition to the above is payable on the following basis: - Employee Contribution 5% or greater. Council Contribution 2% (current and subject to Policy)

• Direct banking of pays.

• Parental leave.

• Council maintains a smoke free working environment.
