Welcome to your English class.

I am here to teach; you are here to learn. I will do my job; you will do yours, and together we will utilize this year wisely and beneficially.

A positive attitude is the key to success. Let’s keep it all the times.

Class Policies

There are only six basic classroom policies.

Following these policies will help keep our class environment peaceful and productive.

If you choose not to adhere to the policies, there will be logical consequences.

Classroom Policies

1. Speak in English.

2. Follow directions the first time they are given.

3. Raise your hand for permission to speak.

4. Raise your hand for permission to leave your seat.

5. Do not touch anyone else with your hands, your feet, or any object.

6. No cursing or profanity.

Severe Clause

Any student who uses profanity, fights, damages school property (this includes the property of the teacher and other students), or is disrespectful (as defined by the teacher) will be sent to the principal IMMEDIATELY.

Arrival

Bring ALL your materials to class.

Greet the teacher and enter the classroom quietly.

Immediately go to your seat.

Take out your materials for work.

Begin the Warm Up assignment.

If you don´t have a pencil ready

Go to the New Pencils container and borrow a pencil.

When you finish, return it to the Used Pencils container.

Remember to have 3 sharpened pencils ready in your pencil case.

Warm Up

You will have five minutes after the entering time to get it done.

Please raise your hand when you need my attention.

When you finish or if you finish early, wait quietly, do not disturb others, and read in your individual.

During Instruction

Listen to the teacher/speaker with full attention.No pencil sharpening, talking, moving about the classroom, or whispering.Ask permission to speak by raising your hand and waiting quietly to be called on. If you don´t understand the concept, ask a classmate by mentioning which part you didn’t understand.

Getting your attentionIf the teacher raises her hand:

Stop whatever you are doing at that moment.

Raise your hand, and make eye contact with me to show that you are ready to listen.

Quietly, notify any classmates who haven’t noticed that the teacher has raised her hand.

Wait silently. No talking or whispering. All of your attention should be given to the teacher.

When You Are Absent

Ask your classmates what we did

Check the Absent folder

Do the work at home

If you have questions about assignments, check with the teacher at an appropriate time.

You will have one day to make-up work for every day you are absent.

When you arrive to class, put the homework in the Homework Tray.

If you didn´t bring the homework, proceed to fill out the Student Responsibility Card, and place it with the other homeworks.

While You Are Working

Make sure you read or listen to the directions about your work and understand the directions.If you didn’t understand, quietly ask for help from other students sitting around you.If you are asked to help, be polite and help.Speak in complete sentences.Talking to each other should be no louder than a whisper. Respect each other and be friendly.Use your time wisely. Put forth your best effort to finish your work on time.

When someone enters the classroom

Continue working quietly and follow all classroom rules and procedures.

Check your work one more time.

Check if the heading is written correctly on your paper.

If the assignment is to be turned in, do so.

If appropriate, read quietly in your seat or start your homework.

Turning in papers

Place your paper on the desk next to you.

Left side

If/When you receive a paper, place yours on top and continue passing the stack to your left.

The paper collector will come by, collect all stacks, and put them in INCOME the tray.

Working in Cooperative Groups

Students are placed in teacher chosen groups at all times.

You are responsible for your own work.

You are to ask a classmate for help if you have a question.

You must help if you are asked for help.

You may ask for help from the teacher when the group agrees on the same question.

Classroom Discussions

PLEASE participate

I want to hear what you have to say.

Make all questions and comments relevant to the current discussion.

If your question is off the topic, write it down and ask later.

Moving around the room

You must ask permission.

Do not ask during a classroom discussion unless it is an emergency.

Departure

The teacher dismisses you, not the bell.

Take ALL your materials when you leave.

Wait until the teacher finishes and officially dismisses you with:

“Don´t ever forget…” And you answer:

“…we are special.”

Leave quietly.
