Sports Day – Thursday 9th July

On Thursday 9th July, the whole school descended on Springfield Park for our Sports Day. The field was a riot of colour and music. At stake for all the houses, the chance to win the House competition and a trip to the seaside. All the events on track and field were hotly contested. The Olympic athletes, who came to help marshal the different events were immensely impressed with the quality of the running and throwing our children displayed. With only the long distance races to go, two houses – Green and Yellow – were vying to win the House Points competition. Despite some immense running efforts by runners from Green House, Yellow House held on to be declared the House Points Competition winners. Congratulations to all the children in Yellow House, who worked incredibly hard, behaved wonderfully well and raced superlatively to earn those precious points.

Many thanks to Chris, our magical M.C., to Miss Artlett, who organised the day, to Springfield Park, who let us use the Sports track at such short notice and to all the other staff, who pulled together and gave us a very special day.

House Team Champions – Seaside Trip On Friday 10th July, children and staff from Yellow House, this year’s House Points champions, were rewarded with a wonderful day at the seaside. And what a wonderful day it was. There was barely a cloud in the sky and the whole house spent a fun day at Frinton-On-Sea, playing in the sand and in the sea. Oh! They do like to be beside the seaside. And now the competition starts again. Which house will it be next year?

July. There will be two performances – and no more – for parents at 2.00pm and 6.30pm. These will be their last performances before they leave Northwold. Tickets cost £3.00 and are available in the Office on a first come, first served basis.

Celebration Day – Thursday 16th July

Come and join us at The Round Chapel in a celebration of a phenomenal year at Northwold. It's our prize-giving ceremony, an art exhibition, and a music showcase all in one! Not only will there be awards for children who have worked hard and consequently have made amazing progress throughout this year, but there will also be an exhibition of various artistic masterpieces created by your children throughout this year. To top that, you will be enthralled by music performances and singing by our students, as well as captivated by our mesmerising dance students.

Year 2 Trip – Southend-on-Sea

On Tuesday 7th July, Year 2 went to the Sea Life Centre in Southend. We saw lots of amazing fish, turtles and even sharks! We learnt about rock pools and got a chance to stroke Patrick the Starfish! After lunch, we had ice creams and made

sand castles on the beach. It was an amazing day and we had so much fun!

Year 3 Trip – Legoland

“At Legoland the first ride we went on was the water ride. The water was very deep! First we had to get on the boat and sit down. Then the water started pouring on us! The best bit was when the big bucket poured lots of water on our heads, we were soaked! My favourite part of the day was the driving school, we learned how to drive and got our license.” – Ngozi, Spain.

Notes from The Hackney Infant Singing Festival. (Editor’s Note: Readers of a delicate disposition may wish to skip to the next item) Mr Louw has submitted the following words in connection with a musical interlude on Wednesday 8th July in The Round Chapel… “Keep quiet!”, “Keep to the side!” and “Stay in your pairs!” – were some of the treasured outing-mantras one could hear emanating from our vicinity as we made our way to The Round Chapel. Whether the children were paying heed to these monotonous chants, or whether they were simply well - behaved, one might be able to debate into obscurity, but be even further from a definitive answer than when one's debate commenced. Nevertheless, we all arrived in good spirit and in one piece. Once settled, the Barbados and Poland teaching team hurled asunder their innocent and caring facade, and revealed their grand scheme of the disposing of the children in the most loathsome manner possible. The first proposal involved travelling to Mexico, where they would drop the children into a volcano

named Popocatopetl. Upon realising the cost of the airfare, this sadistic scheme was swiftly scrapped. The next plan was to drop them in Clapton Pond. This plan failed when a White Swan and a Grey Swan chased after Mr Ali, mistaking him for an organic-whole-grain-gluten-free-artisan-bread - wielding hipster. Some suggested they be chopped up and devoured with some Toast and Marmalade, but Ms Naz was not sure whether the meat of the Homo Sapien juvenile would give her indigestion. Next Mr Felipe pleaded with Mr Miller to dispose of them, but he was too busy bringing his swing to the band. Ms Hussein came up with the bright idea of sending the children on a one way trip to Tennessee on the Chattanooga Choo Choo, but before the children could board, the train driver crashed into another train, for he became distracted by Ms Hussein’s glossy, luxuriant, and advertisement-esque mane flowing in the wind. Ms Rawat had an Archimedes moment and was convinced that sending the children to a Pirate Ship would surely solve said sticky situation. Unfortunately the buccaneers were so thoroughly inebriated, that they proceeded to walking each and every one of themselves off the plank, just to be greedily gobbled up by sharks or deposited into Davy Jones' locker. There was talk of feeding the children to the Animals of Africa at the London Zoo, and when the king of the jungle pulled his nose up at this proposal, as a last resort, they offered Mr Louw as an amuse-bouche to sweeten the deal. Unfortunately, to no avail. Every single poisonous plan, malicious method and fiendish formula failed phenomenally, and before we knew it, the concert had run its course, and it was time to go back to school. Once again the pupils of Northwold Primary school demonstrated in both behaviour and ability how extraordinary and wonderful they are. P.S. Characters in this terrible tall tale are all fictional and do not accurately depict characters of the same name in real life.

Later on that day the Junior Choir also performed at The Round Chapel. Dastardly plans took a back seat and the choir’s delightful singing took primacy.

With the long Summer break upon us, there will be

a whole lot of extra time for your children to be

creating, communicating and playing online. Make

sure you have a clear policy about how long your

children can go online and what are permitted

websites, games and apps. It’s very important (and

it’s never too late) to talk through the rules and

also learn about what is available for your child

online. Finally, make sure you have set up sensible

Husky Fundraising Day – Eagle Heights If you fancy a great day out at the start of the holidays, why not head down to Eagle Heights on Saturday 25th July. The day is aimed to raise funds to improve the facilities for their rescued huskies. Northwold pupils are being offered reduced entry to the event for £1.00. Please collect a flyer from the Office to collect the offer coupon.
