THE DEDICATION OF THE LATERAN BASILICA NOVEMBER 9, 2014

A SPECIAL WORD OF THANKS FROM DAN MARDELL

T his week, I would like to offer a special word of thanks to the Ss. Francis and

John Knights of Columbus. Last Friday evening, on Halloween, the Knights of Columbus volunteered their services to sell pull tabs at the Bingo Hall. This took the pressure off of parents so that they could spend time with their children on Halloween night.

With the cold weather and trick or treating only a small crowd of Bingo players turned out, but with the salesmanship and great attitudes of the Knights, the Knights were able to turn this evening into a financial success. Some Knights who helped had never experienced Bingo before, and were amazed at the work involved and the community of people who participate. Although many had weary legs by the end of the evening, most of the Knights had a very positive experi-ence. Many of Bingo players commented on the Knights’ patience, graciousness, humor, and gentle spirits.

The Knights exemplified this outreach in serving the Bingo community, but this is just one small example of how the Knights quietly serve and minister to others behind the scenes.

The Knights are involved with the festival, keeping the school grounds, contests, Christmas outreach, pancake breakfast, chili barn dance, fish fry, and many other activities. Ss. Francis and John is very fortunate to have such an active group of servant leaders in the Catholic gentlemen who are the Knights of Columbus.

KNIGHTS SERVING THE BINGO COMMUNITY— A FINANCIAL SUCCESS.

Sometimes we forget that ministry does not always have to take

place in a church setting, but is part of what we are called to do in the community at large.

STEWARDSHIP OF TREASURE

CELEBRATION CHOIR Friends - My thanks for your interest in singing with the Celebration Choir this year. All the same, I hope all of you will join in for a very special Advent and Christmas season - your participation will make it all the more special! Some of you have already indicated that you won't be avail-able to sing on Christmas Eve, but would like to participate in "SMS." That is fantastic! Thanks for letting me know, and please keep me posted if plans change at all. This year the "Celebration Choir" will be singing for two events:

"Stabat Mater Speciosa" - December 6 and 7 at 7p.m.

SSFJ Christmas Eve Family Mass @ GC - December 24th - 6:30 p.m.

There are two rehearsal schedules for each event, but all rehearsals are taking place on Sunday afternoons. In some instances we're having rehears-als for both events on the same day. Here's how it all breaks down:

Sunday, November 9 - "SMS" Rehearsal @ SJC - 4p.m.

Sunday, November 16 - "SMS" Rehearsal @ SJC - 4p.m.

Same Day - "Celebration Choir" Rehearsal - 5:00 p.m.

Sunday, November 23 - "SMS" Rehearsal @ SJC - 3p.m.

Same Day - "Celebration Choir" Rehearsal - 5:00 p.m.

Sunday, November 30 - "SMS" Full Rehearsal @ SJC - 3p.m.

Same Day - "Celebration Choir" Rehearsal - 5p.m. (Short)

Friday, December 5 - "SMS" Dress & Tech Rehearsal @ GBC/SJC - 6p.m.

Saturday, December 6 - "SMS" Performance @ GBC - 7p.m.

Sunday, December 7 - "SMS" Performance @ GBC - 7p.m.

Sunday, December 14 - "Celebration Choir" Rehearsal - 3p.m.

Sunday, December 21 - "Celebration Choir" Rehearsal - 3p.m. The chorus music for "SMS" is quite simple, as is the music for the Christmas Eve Mass, but we'll still need to gather on those extra dates to work through everything. You can expect that the 12/14 and 12/21 rehearsals will be inten-sive, but we'll still try to finish at a reasonable time. Should inclement weather arise we'll roll with the changes as best as we're able.

If you have any questions about this, please don't hesitate to e-mail. I am so excited for all of the beautiful music we'll be making together during this Advent season. Thank you for your service to our parish and community!

WANT TO ENRICH YOUR FAITH? Cursillo, a diocesan apostolate, is offering a "Three Day Weekend" for men Nov. 20-23 at Cliffview. The Weekend presents a broad method to live out our Catholic faith through piety, study, and action. A team (priests, deacons, and laity) presents a series of integrated talks and meditations. Rooms are double occupant. The total cost of the Weekend is $255. We do not want to let the cost of the weekend prevent you from attending. Therefore, limited scholarships that defray costs are available as our budget allows. Want to know more? Contact Lastenia Fraley, [email protected], 859.806.2150.

“I HAVE CALLED YOU BY NAME…” Those who have experienced the loss of a child through miscarriage, stillbirth or abortion are invited to attend the 6th Annual Naming Ceremony Sunday, November 9, 2014 at 3pm at St Elizabeth Ann Seton Church. This Diocesan event is for Catholic or Non-Catholic parents and their family who would like to remember their child/sibling/grandchild in a special way. Often a child lost due to miscarriage, stillbirth, or abortion does not receive a funeral observance nor are the children given a name, other than in the hearts of his/her parents. This beautiful and healing commemorative liturgy will be led by Fr John Moriarty and will be followed by a reception in the parish hall. This event is sponsored by The Diocesan Bereavement Ministry and the Bereavement Ministry and Elizabeth Ministry at St Elizabeth Ann Seton Church. If you have any questions about the service please contact either Laura Napora at [email protected] or (859)-273-1412 or Deacon Bob or Connie Kotzbauer at ckotzbauer @cdlex.org or 859-351-1498.
