When you think about vocation, what comes to mind? Do you think about getting a job, fi nding the perfect job, or is vocation much more than just a paycheck? The word vocation comes from the Latin word vocare, which means “to call.”
At Southern Wesleyan University, we believe God created you for a unique purpose. We believe you were meant to impact the world for good. We believe God has called each of us to live a life of learning, intentional community, and service to others.
When God calls us, that calling is on our whole life, including our career. It doesn’t mean we all should be pastors or missionaries, but that calling does mean that God has uniquely created each of us for careers that are di erent than the rest of the world. God’s calling isn’t just about paychecks; it’s about generosity. It isn’t just about job promotions; it’s about ethical, servant-leadership.
As SWU graduates, we may still become doctors, but God calls us to be a di erent kind of doctor. We may be entrepreneurs, but God calls us to be a di erent kind of entrepreneur. We may become teachers, but God calls us to be a di erent kind of teacher.
When we encounter Jesus fully, we may still become app developers, accountants, or any number of careers, but we become a di erent kind of app developer or accountant. We have a calling that encompasses ethics, integrity, contagious generosity, and servant-leadership.
A di erent kind of career. A di erent kind of calling. A di erent kind of YOU.
vocation n. 1 a summons or strong inclination to a particular state or course of action 2 a strong desire to spend your life doing a certain kind of work

LIFE
Ask a Southern Wesleyan student what’s so special about our school, and there’s a good chance you’ll hear the word “community.” While many private universities like to use that term, none can claim the
faith-fi lled community present at SWU. From move-in day to graduation, you’ll experience our intentional
community, holistic personal experiences, and social development opportunities within our Christ-centered
environment.
There’s always something going on at SWU. In the stands of a Warriors game, in the residence halls, at the
campus co ee shop, or in the meetings and activities of various student clubs and organizations, Southern
Wesleyan students are doing life together. The community atmosphere is what makes this place captivating.
“I’ve always loved the personal attention I get at SWU—from my fi rst time on campus until
now as I am entering my senior year.”
