Reflection

We had our first meeting of your new Parish Council this last week, and it was a good meeting. Since then, I’ve been doing lots of thinking of how we can reach the local community, and I’ve reread the Diocese of Perth’s Mission 2020+ document. If you’d like to read it, it can be found here: https://www.perth.anglican.org/church/mission-and-values. I would love your thoughts on how we reach more of our local neighbourhoods and networks: do you have any ideas on what we can do, or what we can join, or who we can speak with? This will be a whole-church initiative: Jesus called us all to “therefore go and make disciples of all nations” (Matt 28: 19-20). Jesus wasn’t speaking to ordained people when he said this: he said this to all who believe in him. And this is a command, not a request. At each Council meeting we start the body of the meeting by going around and sharing how we have shared God’s love with someone since the last time we met. How have you done this? Word aren’t always necessary, of course. And actions sometimes speak louder than the words we say. How have you shared God’s love with someone recently?

NT Reading for Pentecost 4 – Now is the Time

As we work together with him, we urge you also not to accept the grace of God in vain. For he says, “At an acceptable time I have listened to you, and on a day of salvation I have helped you.” See, now is the acceptable time; see, now is the day of salvation! We are putting no obstacle in anyone’s way, so that no fault may be found with our ministry, but as servants of God we have commended ourselves in every way: through great endurance, in afflictions, hardships, calamities, beatings, imprisonments, riots, labours, sleepless nights, hunger; by purity, knowledge, patience, kindness, holiness of spirit, genuine love, truthful speech, and the power of God; with the weapons of righteousness for the right hand and for the left; in honour and dishonour, in ill repute and good repute. We are treated as impostors, and yet are true; as unknown, and yet are well known; as dying, and see—we are alive; as punished, and yet not killed; as sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing,

and yet possessing everything. We have spoken frankly to you Corinthians; our heart is wide open to you. There is no restriction in our affections, but only in yours. In return—I speak as to children—open wide your hearts also. – 2 Corinthians 6.1-13

Prayer Requests for the sick – the three-month period of the current prayer list will end next Sunday and so if there is someone you have listed on the prayer list and you feel their name should continue to be there – please enter their name into the book in the Foyer again.

Collection Plate – Electronic Funds Transfer. Name: Anglican Parish Bicton-Attadale. BSB 706-001 Account 3000-3048. You may remain anonymous using this method. Please ensure you are using these details, and not the old BSB from last year, as those transactions will no longer be honoured by the bank.

James George – is on holiday or retreat till July 23 (back for a day on July 11). Please pray that this time will be for him a time of rest and refreshment.

Does anyone know or remember Alice Ball? Apparently there was a small pew dedicated to her, and we are trying to find it, or find out what happened to it.

Revarnishing Pews – a few of the pews in the back section need to be revarnished where the sun has faded them. Is anyone willing to do this? It is only the parts of the pews closest to the window. We have the varnish and brushes. It has been suggested that this is done early in the week to give maximum drying time now that it is winter.

The Noticeboard application has been approved by the Diocese and is now with Melville Council. It may be 6 weeks before we hear anything.

The Car Park behind the Hall and Rectory may be intermittently closed over the next few weeks.

Lent Group – We meet in the Church on Thursday evenings (6pm) and are reading Unshakable Hope by Max Lucado. Everyone welcome: you don’t need to have read the book.

Tuesday Breakfast ClubTuesday, 22 June at 8.00amWalter’s Café, Point Walter, BictonAll women of the parish and friends warmly invited. Please contact Sharyn if attending (0416 100 616).

As this is considered one of the big festivals of the church, it is fitting to have all the church family together to celebrate the “birthday” of this church. We would like to have a slap-up morning tea after, so please add this date to your diary.

Combined Service In August – We are experimenting with a combined 9.30 service when there is a fifth Sunday in the month, as in January, May, August and October, so in addition to the Patronal combined serviced on July 25 there will also be one on August 29.

We acknowledge the Beeliar Nyungar people as the original custodians of this land. Beeliar Nyungar means river people and Point Walter in the Nyungar tongue is Dyoondalup.
