Messages from the Principal
Dear Parents
Productive and Inspiring describes our students this week. They have been diligently completing many class
activities and external assessments. Teachers have been working hard to finalise Semester 2 reports and
parents have been supportive of so many fundraising initiatives.
Staffing News
Congratulations to two hardworking staff:
Ms Gregory in the office has received a permanent position as School Administration Officer with us.
Mr Shilling received a classroom teacher position to Wideview and we delighted to welcome him to the
world of permanency.
Students in the Spotlight
This week we witnessed the courage and confidence of many Year 5 students, eager to represent their peers
as student leaders for 2022.
Every student who took to the stage, demonstrated leadership capabilities, sincerity and maturity. We con-
gratulate each and every one of them!
Kindergarten 2022 students were absolutely amazing on their first visit to school site this week. We can’t
wait to do it all again next Tuesday at 9:30-11am.
Nicholas in 3T shared with me his impressive persuasive text he wrote about gaming. Gold standard!
Tell Them From Me (TTFM) Survey
The parent survey helps to clarify and strengthen the important relationship between parent and school.
Students in Years 4, 5 and 6 will complete the survey in Week 8 in class. Parents, you are invited to complete
the Parent survey. The link is as follows: http://nsw.tellthemfromme.com/5w5x The survey remains open for
1 week and will close Friday November 26 Week 8.

Crazy Sock Day
We certainly have some trend setters coming through the school gates this morning. I couldn’t pass up the
opportunity for some fun sock happy snaps. Thank you to all the students for donning bright, stripy, spotty,
animal inspired, long, short, artistic, character loving cool socks.
Please continue to read the important information for school events, fundraisers, safety and excursions
listed throughout the newsletter.

Year 6 Farewell
The Year 6 farewell will be held at Asquith Golf Club on Tuesday, 14 December. Students can arrive from
6pm for photos with proceedings commencing at 6.30pm, parents are invited to arrive from 9pm for collec-
tion of their child. A school bytes will be sent with full details including Asquith Golf Club’s covid safe plan in
week 8.
Bike, Road and Carpark Safety
In the past week, we have had community members, parents and staff contacting the school out of concern
for students and their safety.
Students who ride to and from school were reminded of the importance of keeping safe whilst on their bikes
as a group today. If your child rides to and from school, please reiterate the message of remaining alert,
careful and to slow down on blind corners and intersections.
Kiss and Drop families this morning dropped off and moved on like clockwork. If you drive your child to and
from school, please be aware of the rules of Kiss and Drop zones and think twice about completing u-turns
near the school zone.
It goes without saying that the safety and welfare of our students is our top priority. A key danger that young
children face is from cars. For this reason, it is vital that we keep the school driveway and carpark safe at all
times. This means parking only in the designated car spaces. Parking on the grass or oval is not permitted at
any time. If there is no space in the carpark, please park on the street. A further reminder that the carpark
may only be used by school staff and contractors between 8am and 4pm daily. Thank you for helping keep
our students safe.
The Hornsby Council has let us know council rangers may be patrolling the school zones. We have included
road safety information in this week’s newsletter from the Hornsby Council website.
You cannot stop in a NO STOPPING zone for any reason (including queuing or waiting for a space).
WHAT DOES IT MEAN?
You can stop in a NO PARKING zone for a max. of two minutes to drop off and pick up passengers. If no spaces are available you cannot queue on the road way or in any other zones while waiting for a space. You will need to drive away and park elsewhere, only returning when there is space to pull up.You must stay within 3 metres of your vehicle at all times and cannot leave your vehicle unattended.
You must not stop or park in a BUS ZONE for any reason (including queuing or waiting for a space) unless you are driving a bus.If times are shown on the sign, you are not allowed to stop during those times.
You must not stop on or within 20 metres before a PEDESTRIAN CROSSING or 10 metres after a crossing unless there is a control sign permitting parking.
DOUBLE PARKING You must not stop on the road adjacent to another vehicle at any time even to drop off or pick up passengers.
You must not stop on any FOOTPATH or NATURE STRIP, or even a DRIVEWAY crossing a footpath or nature strip for any reason.
Keeps clear sight lines between drivers and children / pedestrians.

If you break the traffic rules in a school zone you are putting not only your child but other children at risk. The parking and traffic rules around our schools are there to protect your children. If you break the rules you will be fined. Please choose safety over convenience.

Demerit Points:* The Demerit Points Scheme is a national program that allocates penalty points (demerits) for a range of driving offences. A driver who has not committed any offences has ’zero’ points. If you commit an offence that carries demerit points, the points are added to your driving record. If you incur the threshold number of demerit points within a three-year period, a licence suspension or refusal is applied. The three-year period is calculated between the dates the offences were committed. It ends on the day your most recent offence was committed. For further information regarding demerit points please visit: https://www.rms.nsw.gov.au/roads/safety-rules/demerits-offences/demerit-points/index.html
Parking RulesPlease park safely and legally on the streets around your school. Park legally so you do not incur parking fines and demerit points. Council’s Traffic Compliance Officers enforce parking around schools. If you park contrary to the road rules you will be fined!
You cannot stop or park your vehicle:
10m 10m
Within 10m of an intersecting road at an intersection without traffic lights (20m with traffic lights), unless a sign states you can park there (see image at left).

Safe Walking Tips • Always use pedestrian crossings. • Never assume that a driver can see you or will stop for you. Their vision may be affected by the
sun, poor light, parked cars or other distractions.• Remember that drivers take longer than usual to stop in the rain or on a wet road.• At intersections, check for turning vehicles before you leave the footpath and while you are
crossing the road.• Children up to ten years old should hold an adult’s hand in the car park, on the footpath and
when crossing the road.• Avoid using a mobile phone, head phones or other device while you are crossing the road.• Watch out for bicycles.
This is a road safety initiative developed by Hornsby Shire Council
No Parking Zone• Drivers may stop in this
zone to drop off or pick up passengers or goods for a maximum of 2 minutes.
• The driver MUST remain in or within 3 metres of the vehicle at all times.
• The vehicle must not be left unattended.
• If times of operation are shown on the sign, the restriction only applies during the times shown.
• No Parking zones can also be used to drop off and pick up children.
No Stopping Zone• Stopping is not permitted at
any time.
• If times of operation are shown on the sign, the restriction only applies during the times shown.
Bus Zones• Drivers are not permitted
to stop within a bus zone at any time.
• If times of operation are shown on the sign, the restriction only applies during the times shown.
Double Parking• Drivers are not permitted
to stop or park between the centre of the road and another vehicle that is parked at the side of the road.
• Double parking decreases visibility for motorists and pedestrians, and significantly reduces road safety around schools.

Hornsby’s incredible history captured in a new book
A new book showcasing the history of every suburb in the Hornsby shire has been kindly donated to our
school library. The 220-page book includes details of the original Indigenous inhabitants of the area, facts
about all the suburbs and over 100 photographs including this photo of the famous Foster’s store at
Berowra.
Councillor Nathan Tilbury, who contributed to the book, is also the author of ‘Man Made the Cities but God
Made the Bush’, which is a well-thumbed book in our Library’s local history collection. Councillor Tilbury
popped in to Wideview this week to hand over a copy of the latest publication. The book is now available for
reading in the Library.

More moustaches spotted at Wideview
A big THANK YOU to all the Wideview parents who have been generously donating to the Movember cause.
Every dollar raised goes to cancer research and we are so thrilled to see the donations creeping higher.
If we all want to see what Mr Coleman and Mr Thomas look like without their moustaches, let’s keep the do-
nations rolling in. Use the QR code below to visit the Team Wideview Movember page where you can make
your donation. Every dollar helps.
Details of the big ‘shave off’ will be announced shortly. Watch this space!

tioner or one of the COVID-19 clinics.

P&C Update
Update from our most recent meeting
Every volunteer organisation owes its success to the people who put up their hands and contribute, collab-
orate and make it happen. We are blessed at Wideview to have the most outstanding group of volunteers
make up our P&C and it’s been an honour to support you and help facilitate your activities during the short
time I’ve been in the President role.
We held our final P&C meeting for the year on Monday night – it was wonderful to hear from each of our
committees and what they’ve been able to accomplish since being back on-site at school, and delightful to
hear so many “thank yous” between the group.
We share a few of these below.
A few thank yous!
We thank those volunteers who are having their last year at Wideview for their commitment and efforts,
as well as for passing on their knowledge to the next generation of members.
A huge shout out to all our volunteers who have returned in term 4 to assist in the canteen – your contri-bution makes such a difference to the service we’re able to provide to the school community.
Another call out to Lynette in the Uniform Shop – throughout the changing restrictions, Lynette has been super-dooper flexible filling orders outside of school hours, inside of school hours, and probably thinking about uniform shop at all hours in between – thanks Lynette for keeping the orders filled for our whole school!
Thank you also to Megan in the Canteen – making the switch to class delivered orders and cohort counter sales on a day to day basis – thank you for finding ways to make it work so our children can have a canteen treat!
Thank you to all our committees across Band, Uniform Shop, Canteen and WOOSCH for a great year – but it isn’t over just yet!

Election Day activities
Wideview Public School will be hosting a polling station for the upcoming election on 4 December. Stay
tuned! In the next few days we’ll be announcing our planned activities for the day – what we’ll be offering
and ways you can be involved on the day.
Follow the P&C Facebook page for details as they happen!
Cherries for Christmas
Our Cherry drive continues through this week – thank you to all the families who have placed their orders so
far. Please see our flyer below for more information.
All the best for a great week!
