TRINITY SUNDAY
Each year, this Sunday is set aside for us to
ponder on ‘The Trinity’. We acknowledge
this doctrine throughout the year, espe-
cially whenever we say one of the creeds,
but too often the words just flash by. On
this day, many preachers try to explain
The Trinity by use of symbols like trian-
gles and intersecting circles, or examples
such as ice, water, steam, or different fac-
ets in our own life. But it is still not easy to
understand. St Augustine spent decades
writing his 15-chapter book, De Trinitate,
and almost gave up. The theology of the
Trinity is a difficult subject to explain or
discuss. Indeed, there is no explicit de-
scription of the Trinity in the Scriptures at
all; the orthodox view of the Trinity (as
three persons in one God) is an inferential
conclusion from the Bible that took gener-
ations to assemble. The best we can do is
accept it as a faith doctrine and encompass
it in our beliefs.

CATHEDRAL MINISTRY OF HOSPITALITY
Our aim is to have the Cathedral open every day from 10am-4pm. Sadly we aren’t meeting this aim due to shortage of guides. New guides are welcome and training given. If you can spare 3 hrs, one day per week or month and think you might like this ministry, please speak to Fred Rainger, phone 4821 5725
Our Stewardship Plan 2016
A reminder of our priorities for

Opening Hymn:
Father most holy, merciful and tender,
Jesus our Saviour, with the Father reigning,
Spirit all-kindly, advocate, defender,
Light never waning;
Trinity sacred, Unity unshaken,
Deity perfect, giving and forgiving,
Light of the angels, life of the forsaken,
Hope of all living,
Maker of all things, all your creatures praise you;
Lo, all things serve you through your whole creation:
Hear us, Almighty, hear us as we raise you
Heart’s adoration.
To the all-ruling triune God be glory:
Highest and greatest, help you our endeavour;
We too would praise you, giving honour worthy
Now and for ever.

Gradual Hymn
Father of heaven, whose love profound
A ransom for our souls has found,
Before your throne we sinners bend;
To us your pardoning love extend.
Almighty Son, incarnate Word,
Our prophet, priest, redeemer, Lord,
Before your throne we sinners bend;
To us your saving grace extend.
Eternal Spirit, by whose breath
The soul is raised from sin and death,
Before your throne we sinners bend;
To us your quickening power extend.
Thrice holy – Father, Spirit, Son,
Mysterious Godhead, Three in One,
Before your throne we sinners bend;
Grace, pardon, life to us extend.

Offertory Hymn
I bind unto myself today
The strong name of the Trinity
By invocation of the same,
The Three in One, and One in Three.
I bind this day to me forever,
By power of faith, Christ’s incarnation,
His baptism in the Jordan river,
His death on cross for my salvation,
His bursting from the spicèd tomb,
His riding up the heavenly way,
His coming at the day of doom:
I bind unto myself today.
I bind unto myself today
The power of God to hold and lead,
His eye to watch, his might to stay,
His ear to hearken to my need,
The wisdom of my God to teach,
His hand to guide, his shield to ward,
The word of God to give me speech,
His heavenly host to be my guard.
Christ be with me, Christ within me,
Christ behind me, Christ before me,
Christ beside me, Christ to win me,
Christ to comfort and restore me,
Christ beneath me, Christ above me,
Christ in quiet, Christ in danger,
Christ in hearts of all that love me,
Christ in mouth of friend and stranger.
I bind unto myself the name,
The strong name of the Trinity,
By invocation of the same,
The Three in One, and One in Three,
Of whom all nature has creation,
Eternal Father, Spirit, Word.
Praise to the Lord of my salvation:
Salvation is of Christ the Lord. Amen.

St Saviour’s Cathedral Hymns May 22nd 2016
Final Hymn
Father, Lord of all creation,
Ground of being, life and love;
Height and depth beyond description
Only life in you can prove:
You are mortal life’s dependence:
Thought, speech, sight are ours by grace;
Yours is every hour’s existence,
Sovereign Lord of time and space.
Jesus Christ, the Man for Others,
We, your people, make our prayer:
Let us love as sisters, brothers,
All whose burdens we can share.
Where your name binds us together
You, Lord Christ, will surely be;
Where no selfishness can sever
There your love we all may see.
Holy Spirit, rushing, burning,
Wind and flame of Pentecost,
Fill our hears afresh with yearning
To regain what we have lost.
May your love unite our action,
Nevermore to speak alone:
God, in us abolish faction,
And through us your love make known.

_________________________________________________________ Our Cathedral ministry to those in need. Our shelves are healthy at the moment and we thank all who assist with food. Winter is approaching and that brings an increase in assistance required so please continue this very worthwhile ministry.
Tins of soups (all varieties), tinned meals, pasta and pasta sauces, breakfast cereals, suggesting porridge for winter might add variety. ________________________________________________________________ ECUMENICAL CHRISTIAN MEDITATION: due to a number of factors, the group is in
recess for a few weeks and will resume Thursday 2nd June, 5.30-6pm at the Uniting Church
Wesley Centre. For information, please contact Helen Rainger on 4821.5725

It’s About Mission
The Dean and Wardens encourage you in supporting both BCA and ABM through our regular Cathedral Mission Giving and ABM and BCA loose-change giving boxes. Through both we are involved in the local and overseas Mission of the Church. BCA News: BCA in partnership with Generate Ministries aims to see SRE (Scripture) teachers in every state High School in NSW by 2020. We are delighted to announce that Jenny Schabel is now the SRE teacher at Goulburn and Mulwaree High Schools. Christian Special Religious Education encourages students to question, explore and discover the basics of the Christian faith based on the Bible. The Goulburn Council of Churches is supporting Jenny, both financially and with prayer support – if you would like to support Jenny, you can do so through the Southern Tablelands Christian Education Committee in conjunction with Generate Ministries. For further information on how to support Jenny phone 1300 369 596. BCA – bush church aid. Going the distance - by supporting bca with the loose change boxes we are bringing the Gospel of Christ to the outermost parts of Australia. We are committed to sending messengers so that all Australians, no matter where they live and work, are able to hear the life-changing message of Christ. If you would like to join us there are still spare loose change boxes on the Parish Table at the rear of the Cathedral – if you take one please contact Ray Smith Ph: 4821 034 or email [email protected] so we can arrange to have prayer notes and BCA news sent to you.
