Times / Time Intervals Timetables

TIMES There are two ways of giving the time.

(i) 12-hour time which uses am, pm, noon & midnight.Each day begins at midnight. Mid-day is 12noon.

Times from midnight to noon are am(morning).

Times from noon to midnight are pm (afternoon/evening).

Midnight and noon cannot have am or pm after them.

(i) 24-hour time which uses 4 digits but neither am nor pm.

Each day begins at 0000.

The hours in the afternoon are 13, 14, 15, ….

24-hour clock times are used for timetables, videos, etc

In words 12-hour clock 24-hour clock

Quarter to eight in morning.

Half-past nine at night.

mid-day.

Five past midnight

Twenty past six in the morning.

Twenty-five to five in afternoon.

This is best done using “time lines”.

Ex1 0900 until 1350

= 4 hrs 50 mins
