VCP-T, VCP-TR, T-VAC & T-VACRVacuum Circuit Breakers
General Overview
Eaton’s Cutler-Hammer VCP-T (ANSI) and T-VAC (IEC) vacuum circuit breakers are drawout devices used in conjunction with drawout cassettes. VCP-TR (ANSI) and T-VACR (IEC) vacuum circuit breakers are fixed mounted devices.
VCP-T and T-VAC drawout circuit breakers are comprised of two parts. One part, the upper breaker element, is much like the fixed circuit breaker. The second part, the lower portion, is called the cradle. The cradle primarily provides the levering mechanism for moving the drawout circuit breaker into and out of the CONNECTED position within the drawout cassette.
All circuit breakers utilize a two-step stored energy mechanism.
The fixed type VCP-TR and T-VACR circuit breakers use copper primary conductors with silver-plated connec-tions. Upper and lower terminals have two holes for making bolted horizontal bus or cable connections. Secondary connections can be made through a standard secondary disconnect block or an optional screw type terminal block available in kit form.
The drawout type VCP-T and T-VAC circuit breakers utilize spring loaded, silver-plated primary disconnects to make their primary connection. The primary disconnects mate with the rigidly mounted, silver-plated stabs mounted in the rear of the drawout cassette. Secondary connec-tions are made through the use of an umbilical cord which comes from the factory already attached to the drawout circuit breaker. The unat-tached end of the umbilical cord is connected to the drawout cassette during equipment installation.
All circuit breakers, whether fixed or drawout, are supplied as standard with a front mounted 5a and 5b contact auxiliary switch for customer use.
Both fixed and drawout manually operated circuit breakers are supplied with one shunt trip. Manually operated circuit breakers are normally closed and opened by hand using the manual ON and manual OFF buttons respec-tively. Access to these buttons can be limited or prevented through the use of optional covers.
The standard shunt trip is used to elec-trically trip (open) the circuit breaker remotely. In addition, other optional electrically operated devices are avail-able to close or trip manually operated circuit breakers remotely.
Manually operated circuit breakers are pre-wired to accept the addition of an optional spring charging motor.
For electrically operated circuit break-ers, the springs are normally charged through the use of an electric motor. A factory supplied electrically oper-ated circuit breaker is always equipped with a spring release to close the circuit breaker electrically and a shunt trip to trip (open) the circuit breaker electrically. A second shunt trip or an undervoltage release are other available optional devices.
All circuit breakers have a trip free operation feature and a mechanical anti-pump feature as standard. Any circuit breaker capable of being electri-cally closed is provided with a latch check switch. The latch check switch ensures that all closing conditions are met before the circuit breaker can be electrically closed.
A variety of other optional devices are available for specific applications and/or requirements, such as the fam-ily of microprocessor-based trip units (protective relays) Digitrip

VCP-T, VCP-TR, T-VAC & T-VACRVacuum Circuit Breakers
VCP-T & T-VAC Drawout Cassettes
General Overview
The drawout cassette is designed to support the drawout circuit breaker and provide a means by which the drawout circuit breaker can complete its secondary and primary electrical connections.
VCP-T and T-VAC drawout cassettes permit the drawout circuit breakers to be in one of three positions within the cassettes: DISCONNECT, TEST and CONNECT.
The cassette provides a compatible sec-ondary connector for attachment of the one end of the secondary umbilical cord.
Silver-plated primary stabs are rigidly mounted in the rear of the cassette to engage the spring loaded primary disconnects on the rear of the circuit breaker.
The levering mechanism, as described earlier, is part of the circuit breaker. The cassette does, however, provide a positive guidance as the circuit breaker is levered into and out of the CON-NECTED position.
Primary connection stabs are provided on the rear of the cassette for connec-tion into the system in which the cir-cuit breaker will function.
Metallic primary safety shutters are provided as standard in all cassettes. The shutters cover the fixed primary stabs when the circuit breaker is not in the CONNECTED position. As the circuit breaker is levered to the CON-NECTED position, the safety shutters automatically move out of the way permitting the primary connection to be made. A standard padlocking device is provided to permit padlock-ing the primary shutters in an OPEN position or CLOSED position.
There are two different drawout cas-settes used with VCP-T and T-VAC dra-wout circuit breakers. Which cassette is used is determined by the lightning impulse withstand voltage (LIWV) of the circuit breaker selected. All circuit breakers rated for 60 kV LIWV, whether VCP-T or T-VAC, use a Style 69C3350G01 drawout cassette. All circuit breakers rated for 75 or 95 kV LIWV, whether VCP-T or T-VAC, use a Style 69C3350G02 drawout cassette. Both drawout cassette provide the same standard features and serve the exact same purpose. Visually, there are few noticeable differences between the two cassettes.

VCP-T, VCP-TR, T-VAC & T-VACRVacuum Circuit Breakers
There are two different drawout cassettes used with VCP-T and T-VAC drawout circuit breakers. Select the cassette based on the rated impulse withstand voltage level of the VCP-T circuit breaker from Table 1 or the rated lightning impulse withstand voltage level of the T-VAC circuit breaker from Table 3.
Table 5. Drawout Cassette
Three Digitrip Trip Units are available: the 520V, 1150V and the 1150Vi. Three current sensors and one matching fixed rating plug are supplied as stan-dard with any trip unit model selected for use with circuit breakers from Tables 1, 2, 3 or 4. The current rating of the current sensors and matching rating plug are selected from Table 7.

The available current sensors and matching rating plugs available for use with the trip units from Table 6 are shown in Table 7.
Table 7. Current Sensors/Rating Plugs
Standard circuit breakers include electric spring charging. When electric charging is selected, an electric motor is provided to charge the closing springs along with a spring release coil and a latch check switch to electri-cally close the circuit breaker. A shunt trip to trip (open) the circuit breaker electrically is standard for all circuit breakers. Choose the desired control voltage from Table 8.

2. If a VCP-T circuit breaker is selected from Table 1 or a T-VAC circuit breaker is selected from Table 2, select the appropriate cassette from Table 5.
3. If the circuit breaker selected from Tables 1, 2, 3 or 4 will be supplied with a Digitrip RMS trip unit (pro-tective relay), select the appropri-ate current sensor and rating plug rating from Table 6.
4. Pick the desired electric charging motor control voltage from Table 8 for circuit breakers selected from Tables 1, 2, 3 or 4.
5. Select other optional factory installed accessory items from Tables 9, 10 and 11.
6. Select optional field installable accessory items from Table 12.
7. All items to be ordered that are not factory installed must have the correct style or catalog num-ber followed by the description. Orders must be entered by style or catalog numbers.
Order InformationThe following information, as a minimum, is required when ordering VCP-T, VCP-TR, T-VAC or T-VACR circuit breakers:
1. Circuit breaker type.
2. Continuous current.
3. Any additional factory installed accessories.
4. Control voltage and frequency of all electrical devices.
5. The current rating of the current sensors and matching rating plug for circuit breakers equipped with a Digitrip RMS trip unit.
6. Style number of the drawout cassette as a separate item if a VCP-T or T-VAC circuit breaker is being ordered.
