We can gain an even larger perspective by consider that the Go spel of John the latest of the Canonical
gospelswas probab ly composed around the year 100. Matthew and Luke probably date from the 70s-
80s, and M ark, the oldest of the four prob ably from the late 60s. That means that when St. Lukes came
into existence the gospels were already almost 1,800 years old. And if we allow the approximate date of 4
BCE for the birth of Jesus, that means that St. Lukes was actually founded 1,86 5 years after the birth of
the founder of Christianity. My po int is not to minimize the St. Lukes achievement in remaining viable for 150 years. On the
contrary, my point is that there is no reason to believe that Christianity is going away. The church has
struggled through difficult times before, and it has survived to grow stronger. There is no reason that we
should not begin to prepare now for our next 15 0th anniversary; not by getting a caterer and fixing up the
hall but by encouraging new people to join us. And we can begin that this month too, as we hold our
bring a friend Sunday on October 3 0. We should see this event as kicking off our next 150 years.
God bless.

Outreach
St. Luke's is supporting two
outreach programs, each vital
to the community. They are
the Somerton Food Bank and
area shelters. We need yourcontinued support to
continue these worthy
projects.
The Food Bank is always in
need of cereal and cash
donations to buy meats and
maintain operating expenses.
The shelters look forward to
the Wawa gift cards provided
by your donations.
Blankets Wanted
Through October, WOW is
collecting fleece blankets to
be given to chemo patients.
Last year the cancer centerswere very grateful for having
our blankets to give to cancer
patients who were cold from
the chemo. Lets warm
their hearts again!

150th
Anniversary
We are all
looking
forward to
our 150th
anniversary
celebration
on Sat.,
October
15.There
have been
many
preparations
made to
ensure a
memorable
occasion. I'm
grateful to
the planning committee and all who have helped.
The celebration begins with a special church
service at 4:30 p.m., Bishop Benn ison officiating.
We are planning to have a group picture taken
following the service. The church should look
beautiful with the refurbished organ pipes ,
candelabrums, and special altar flowers. The hall
will be decorated with flowers , sign in board,
pictures, posters,displays,and an ongoing CD
presentation. Each table setting will include
individual memento votive candles, framed
pictures of former rectors, and trivia sheets about
news events during each rector's term. There will
be a list of assigned seats for the dinner. A brief
history of the church will be distributed as well.
The dinner is by reservation and will be held in
the hall from 6-9 p.m.-Barbara Kaufold

GF SNEWS:
Miahs World
Council Memories
I thought NationalAssembly was fun,
but I was so off track. You don't know whatfun is until you go toWorld Council! Thisyears World Council
took place in Ireland! It was my first time going toWorld Council and Ireland. We were staying at a
boarding school, Kings Hospital. The weather was
nice; it was just perfect! It was an experience I don'tthink anyone could ever forget. To meet people from
all around the world in just two weeks is really justsomething special, and whats even better is when Imade connections with girls who I can call myfriends.
When I first got there, I was extremely anxious to
know who my roommates were and to just seefriends I haven't seen since National Assembly 2010.Of course it started to rain a little bit, but it onlyrained a few times during our visit. A couple hourshad passed by and more people started to arrive. Myanxiety grew more and more, until I finally got toknow who my roommates were. I was rooming withOlivia and Brooke from Connecticut and Samanthaand Synae from Pennsylvania! I knew them from
National Assembly 2010 and GFS meetings.During our visit, we had long meetings but that's notall we did! We got to see some parts of Ireland, and
if I must say so myself, it is gorgeous! I've neverseen so much green in my life. It looked like adream, the mountains, the animals, the open bluesky. Everything was so OLD, the buildings, artifacts, and the churches. We visited a lot of churches duringthe couple weeks and they were all beautiful, especially Christ Church, Dublin. I felt like I was ina castle!Everything isn't old though, their fashion is up tostyle. When I first got there I thought I'd see people
wearing long skirts and shirts, but I was wrong. Theyhave a unique sense of style. Shorts with tights, andtights are really big in Ireland and most of Europe.Although their fashion was unique, that's not theonly thing that caught my eye. They were driving onthe other side of the road! I actually almost got hit
by a car, instead of a car slowing down for you,YOU stop for a car.
Also their alphabet is a little different theypronounce their "h" and "z" differently. Ohand how could I forget about their cute
accents! I even started speaking with anIrish accent after a few days.My experience was altogether awesome. Iseriously can't wait for the next WorldCouncil in Wales in 2014! It's going to begreat.
