ABSTRACT

Introduction: Regular gynecological examination is very important for the health of every girl

and woman. The aim of routine gynecological examination is the early detection of breast and

cervical cancer, early detection of sexually transmitted infections, prevention of unwanted

pregnancy and sterility, as well as advising on the use of contraceptives.

Objective: To explore the reasons why women avoid going to a gynecologist, to identify their

fears and prejudices about this kind of inspection, but also show respondents on the importance

of regular controls, in order to prevent the disease or discovered at an early stage.

Materials and methods: For the study method was used grounded theory. The research included

eight members of the female sex. Respondents were interviewed and informed that the talks will

be recorded, but also that their anonymity will be preserved, and all voluntarily agreed to

participate in the study, which lasted between February and May 2015 in the territory of Serbia,

Results: A detailed analysis of the interviews and processing the information received has been

allocated eight categories: fear of gynecological examination (assuming painful and unflattering

review, sterility accessories, fear of examination results), a sense of shame (shame due to

exposure of intimate body parts-including half a gynecologist, and shame about going to the

gynecologist), expertise and commitment to the gynecologist, the impact of financial situation,

the crowd in office, duties at the university or work, support partners and information on

examinations (including the main source of information and knowledge about the importance of

preventive examinations). Gradual analysis and categorization of the transcripts formed a

hypothesis, that led to the reasons why women avoid gynecological examinations.

Conclusion: Although the results of the study can not be generalized, it can help to solve the big

problems assoc and that the negligence of girls and women when it comes to their health. What

is in this paper imposes as the idea is to make a more extensive follow-up research might

examine the actual perception of the problem, because such a complex problem requires deeper

analysis.
