Welcome to Tyco Healthcare’s Sales Conference 2005! George Sheehan, American physician, author and running enthusiast, said “Success means having the courage, the determination, and the will to become the person you believe you were meant to be” The Spirit of Success is our theme for this conference and one we will carry throughout 2006. When I was asked what I thought we should have as a slogan for the conference my first thoughts were “thank heavens this year is over!” After it was pointed out this wasn’t quite the direction we wanted to take, I took the time to look at it more seriously. When I reflected on the past year and what we have all been through as a team one thing really stood out for me and that was the spirit within every one of you. Spirit can be defined in many ways. It can be defined as the life force of an individual, that force that characterizes them as being alive. It is one’s will, sense of self, or ones enthusiasm for living. Spirit is group loyalty, a sense of enthusiasm and loyalty that somebody feels through belonging to a group or team. Spirit is an important influence that is divine and inspiring. It is a shared outlook, a frame of mind, it is a mood. As a team we have faced many obstacles this year, just when you thought things where as tough as they could get, along came that curve ball. As a team we have triumphed over the challenges of the past year. This is obvious when you look at the bottom line and realize that despite these challenges, we achieved our targets, even though at times we had no idea how near or far away they were! Orison Swett Marden said “Success is not measured by what you accomplish, but by the opposition you have encountered, and the courage with which you have maintained the struggle against overwhelming odds.” The determination with which this team tackled the challenges was amazing! It shows such strong character in each and every one of you, from the representatives in the field, to their managers, to the support staff, everyone pulled together to do their best to deliver the best service they could to their customers, and to furthering the team effort, which brings success to Tyco Healthcare South Africa. “Success means doing the best we can with what we have. Success is the doing, not the getting; in the trying, not the triumph. Success is a personal standard, reaching for the highest that is in us, becoming all that we can be.” Zig Ziglar. We are at the start of a new year and it is this spirit, this determination, strength of character, this enthusiasm, this burning desire to succeed that we want to encourage and grow through the year to come. We are here tonight to honour not only those individuals that achieved great things this year, but to honour each and every member of our sales team as a whole, because each of your individual successes contributed to our group success. We will start the evening’s awards with the Long Service Awards: The following people receive the Tyco Healthcare Five Year Long Service Award: Patricia Earl De Wet Erasmus

Franco Zorzi Bernadette Viljoen There should be no doubt in anyone’s mind whose name appears on this year’s 15 Year Long Service award! He started with the company when it was still ____SGV to insert history here_____________ Rick – come on up here! Congratulations to Rick Streeter and thank you for the contribution you have made over the past 15 years and still continue to make to Tyco Healthcare! (Leave breather for photos) We have a new award this year. The Social Responsibility Award is a certificate of recognition for the hard work and dedication by individuals within Tyco Healthcare whom the Executive Committee feels has gone the extra mile in giving back to the communities in which we all operate.

Woodrow T. Wilson, 28th president of the United States, said “You are not here merely to make a living. You are here in order to enable the world to live more amply, with greater vision, with a finer spirit of hope and achievement. You are here to enrich the world, and you impoverish yourself if you forget the errand.” This year there are three recipients of this award: For their work in assisting at the Walter Sisulu Paediatric Cardiac Centre we would like to recognize both Etienne Reiss and Jacqueline Langford. Etienne and Jacqueline have been assisting at the Unit, raising sponsorships through Tyco Healthcare and through day to day interaction with the surgeons and theatre staff, and the families, lending support where they can, handing out teddy bears in the hopes of putting smiles on the faces of the children who call the Unit home for the time being. Dawn Gottgens has also taken the children to heart and is assisting the Door of Hope. Dawn Gottgens was alerted to this organization through the Solly Philander show on E.tv called “Let’s Fix it”. The show made an appeal for nappies, and baby wipes and whatever else we could assist them with. Dawn has taken this project under her wing and is passionate about it. Tyco were able to not only support them for that show, but will continue to do so under Dawn’s guidance for the remainder of the year. What seems like so little to us, made all the difference to those at the Door of Hope. This is a challenge to all of us for the New Year, that we identify such special causes within our community, where we can give back, helping to uplift, improve and enrich both our lives and the lives of those around us. We would like to thank these individuals for giving of their time and efforts in an attempt to make things even just a little bit better for those around them. Abraham Lincoln said “That some achieve great success is proof to all, that others can achieve it as well.” This is certainly something to strive for and the individuals in the categories to follow have led this challenge by example. They truly have achieved great things this year. I’d like to call on Lauren Leathern to present the Critical Care Representative of the year 2006. Lauren…. This is because we have managed to keep the teams fairly stable this year and as a result there are not many new comers who fall into this category, who have been with us long enough to allow for a fair assessment of their capabilities. Even though the field was limited, we do have a winner in this category: The Rookie of the Year Award for 2006 goes to ____Committee to decide while on conference due to conflict of results_________________. Each of you knows the value of information and how important it is to be able to walk confidently into a meeting with your Surgeons because you have been fully prepped on every aspect of your product by the Product Manager. This year we would like to acknowledge the role the Product Managers played in achieving our success. Each one of them contributed to their divisions, their knowledge and passion for the products they work with on a daily basis, arming their sales team with as much information as possible, spending many hours on research and as many on training both existing and new members of the team.
