Do you ever wonder how

some people appear to have life completely under control? Their lives just flow and they seem happy and at peace with themselves and the world. But others struggle to make ends meet, have long forgotten their dreams of achieving anything and spread negative energy like poison.According to those who understand these things, life doesn't have to be so hard, yet many people feel trapped by their circumstances. We feel a natural attraction to those who have a handle on life, those who carry themselves with confidence

and inspire others by their presence. It goes by various titles – celebrity, leadership quality, charisma – whatever you call it, we all respond to it!Often we think we should be further along the path to success than we are – we should have more money, a better body, a more important position - but that’s because we are programmed to want more. The truth about life is that learning will never stop. One secret to living life to the full is to look at every situation in your life as an opportunity to grow - it will help you feel more relaxed and enjoy the flow of life.I love reading about successful people and what they are prepared to share about their life experiences. It confirms to me that life is about learning and growing through experience. We can resist the lessons, but until we learn them, we are doomed to repeat the patterns that trap us in the same situations. This is why we end up in the same relationships, the same dead end jobs, or the same unproductive positions again and again. It is as if we get stuck in a groove and only by shifting our perspective can we escape. You can't run away from your problems but by confronting them armed with a little inspiration, you can radically change the outcome. So, according to the best received wisdom, there are no mistakes in life, only unexpected outcomes and limitless opportunity for growth. But we are pretty much programmed to keep repeating the same patterns until we understand the lesson.

That’s when we have a chance of moving on to the next level of the game!Another truism is that whatever you believe about yourself on the inside is manifested on the outside. So you are what you believe you are - your self- image and your self- confidence, plays a huge part in determining how the world sees you. Interestingly, the more you approve of yourself, the less you need others' approval. All situations are pathways instead of problems. Things don't happen to you — they happen for you. There is no "there" to get to — it never ends. Where you are today is preparing you for tomorrow. Everything is connected. You will always get what you need. It might not be what you want, but it is always exactly what you need.Ultimately, what you make of your life is up to you.

We often tend to run away with the success of sporting achievements and it is easy to measure

the success of team or individual by making comparison to previous results and a scoreboard. These results are tangible.

On Wednesday and Thursday of last week our Culture Department provided an exclusive preview of our exceptional talent at Ashton. The performances were outstanding and this will surely be one of the highlights to the year thus far. This ‘Variety Concert’ was of an exceptional standard and only those who attended these performances will truly understand the quality of the items on the programme. It is very evident that we have young and amazing talent coming through from the junior section of the school and

this is an exciting prospect for our Music and Drama Departments. The individual items were a ‘mixed bag’ of vocals, dance, instrumental and acting – all based on the theme of ‘Time’. I was also impressed to see that our students embrace all facets of school life. There were a number of students who performed who are also avid sportsmen and women. As Head of the school, this is so exciting and motivating to see as it is a pure indication to the holistic approach in developing our students and we are proud of their involvement. They continue to amaze us as they once again, display Heart, Spirit, Character and Courage (H.S.C.C) and we are very proud of their achievements.

How do we measure success of our talented students in the Arts? It is difficult, but in observing the confidence, the perfection, conviction and spirit of these performances, we

can only acknowledge them. We are so blessed to have this quality of students, teachers and coaches as part of the Ashton Family.

Our students will further their cultural experience to a week of Eisteddfod items from Monday 18 to 22 May 2015. This will expose them to a more challenging set of criteria and will enhance each student individually in the various categories. The Eisteddfod is not a competition, but it provides an individual the opportunity to display their talent and then receive a critique on their performance.

This only enhances my heartfelt belief that teaching is a noble profession with the highest return in dividends, a feeling of reward ‘felt’ rather than ‘measured’.

It was Grandparent’s Day at Umhlali Pep

recently and a huge joy for the youngsters to proudly display their work to their loving grandparents. There was a giant picnic on the school fields followed by a recital by the schools’ choir and marimba band and finally a video featuring the entire school – what a treat!

"The Destiny life Matrics, and their parents, recently celebrated

their matric dance-unusually titled, "an evening in Shangri-la.....a fusion of east meets west.

The Matrics were transported into a fantasy world of cherry blossoms,

painted lanterns, jeweled centre pieces and fire-breathing dragons.

One of the highlights of the evening included a waltz, whereby

every matric couple confidently took to the floor to demonstrate their new found skill learnt in their Life Orientation lessons these past few

weeks.The evening was not only

memorable, but an opportunity for our learners to understand

their value and that each precious learner is destined for greatness."

“If you choose the wrong tenant or fail to address certain maintenance issues, your investment may

become a costly liability. By doing your homework in advance, you can reduce the mistakes. experience is a great teacher – if you can afford the lessons.”-

Vivian Marks of the Rental Tribunal of South Africa.

HOW DOES yOUR AgENT lOOK AFTER yOUR INVESTmENT? I would like to discuss the most important property rental factor with you today: Choosing the right tenant for your investment.Start by appointing the best and qualified rental agent in your area.

PRACTICAl WAyS TO CHOOSE A gOOD RENTAl AgENT:1. The most important factor in choosing an agent/agency - Do they have a valid fidelity fund certificate? Why is a fidelity fund certificate important?*Without this certificate one is not permitted to practise. If your agency/agent is not in possession of a valid FFC it means that they are operating illegally. You are not required to pay an uncertified agent/agency any commission or administration fees. 2. It might seem obvious, but ask friends, family and colleagues who have recently moved who they have used and what they thought about the agent. 3. Visit rental agents as a potential tenant looking for a property like your home. Pay attention to how they behave and to what they are saying or asking.4. Ask a couple of questions like: “How long has the agent been in the property market and are they qualified? Where will your property be advertised? What services does the agent offer? Does the agent guarantee regular feedback after all viewings?”

DECIDINg ON AN AgENT/AgENCy SHOUlD lEAD TO FINDINg A qUAlITy TENANT AND NOT A HEADACHE!Your chosen agent’s main aim must be to keep your rental property full with long-term tenants who pay their rent and treat your property and the neighbours respectfully.A reputable agent should live up to what they guarantee. One of the key services any good rental agent needs to offer landlords is the protection of their investment. One such a protection tool is TPN. The advantages of appointing an agency who uses TPN are the following:* TPN stands for: Tenant Profile Network. TPN is a database of tenant information with the intention of identifying those

“bad apples” that habitually have left a trail of unpaid rent and damaged properties in their wake. In short – “Information which allows an agent to validate that the tenant is who they say they are”

THE 4 INgREDIENTS THAT mAKE UP A gOOD TENANT?• AbilitytoPay - Someone who is financially responsible • Respect- Someone who will respect your property • Honesty/Integrity- Someone who is stable and likely to renew their lease• Cleanliness - Someone who will leave the property in the same condition as it was or better than they found it.

These are some of the minimum standards, which, if your agent notifies the prospective tenant in the beginning, will assist them to know why their application may be rejected, and for you to know that your investment will be protected.Once you have secured a good tenant and all the legal documentation has been done, you, the Landlord should relax and let the competent agent manage the day to day business for the duration of the lease on your behalf. You should be sure that your tenant is the proverbial “hen’s tooth”.

You can now rest assured that other frequently asked questions will be taken care of by your agent. Questions such as:• Whatmaintenancemustthetenantdo?• Byhowmuchcantherentbeincreased when the tenant renews?• WhatcanIdoifmytenanthasnotpaid the rent on time?• CanItakemytenant’spossessionsifthe rent is in arrears?• HowdoIevictatenant?• CanIenterthepropertywithoutmytenant’s permission? • WhatcanIdoifmyneighbourscomplain about my tenant?

If you need help with answers on any of the above mentioned questions, please feel free to email me. [email protected] We take pride in giving our landlords the best service.

If you run a business, one of the biggest challenges you probably face is that you constantly run out of time to do the things that you

know you need to be doing. Why is this so common in business?

Well for the majority of us, working

IN our business tends to take priority over working ON our business. Most of us are “doers” and not “thinkers.” We get to work and the crisis management begins as we set foot through the door. This priority, that drama, those issues, these urgencies and so the day unfolds until we believe we have worked a very

productive eight / ten hours and finally call it quits, or so we think…

The problem starts with one’s time management, the habits we have formed over the years and the way we allow work to dictate how our business day unfolds. If we allow our lives to be run by these occurrences that

face us every day, it would be safe to say that we are not completely in control.

To begin working ON your business you need to focus on two critical

aspects of business:overall business efficiency and;

overall business growth

OVeRAll bUSINeSS eFFICIeNCYTo make your business more efficient, YOU have to become more efficient – it’s a domino effect. Plan your day before you get to work; even the night before. List the things you know you have to do that will have a direct impact on making your business more efficient and then stick to this plan. This includes systems that you set in place, checklists that staff operate by, timelines for projects, software that can replace activities that are repeated, outsourcing etc. I could go on for hours here… To manage your business, you must be able to measure it first.

Critically look at your business and challenge yourself to find leaner, quicker ways to do things using every resource available. Sure, you will still have to work through the issues / dramas that pop up throughout the day. That’s fine, but now perhaps for the first time in a long time, you are also taking your business efficiency to the next level.

By way of example, about 20 years ago, our financial institutions outsourced their entire mortgage origination division’s sales departments, due to the costs versus income ratio. Prior to this, do

you remember when we were called upon by the individual bank’s home loan consultants?

OVeRAll bUSINeSS GROWTHBy now you are getting the hang of it, so you are probably predicting what I have to say. Great, let’s continue. Fact: if your business is not growing, it is dying! If you stayed the same as you did last month and your competitors grew, you are dying. If you are not constantly finding new, different, creative, modern ways to grow your business, then you guessed it - your competitors are and you are dying. Get into the habit of constantly finding innovative ways to compete and increase your target market size, your online and offline prospect communication, the amount of products / services you offer, your margins, your revenue, your conversion ratio, your competitive edge, your value proposition and more, more, more. It is probably clear that I am passionate about this subject.

Also look at your branding and critically see what it says about your business. How credible do you look to your future customers? What is your reputation in your target market? Once your branding is set in place, you can move onto your marketing, relationship building and sales. Using this as a guideline, strategically plan your business growth and become comfortable being uncomfortable. Yes, develop an itch to constantly grow and make your business more efficient and you will get results. As you can see, this is the tip of the iceberg, but it is a great start to get you more focussed working ON your business, as part of your working day.

It seems difficult to escape the barrage of

advertisements relating to the new Tax Free Savings’

Accounts (TFSAs). Airport escalators, billboards and countless advertorials in business media suggests an almost giddy hype around these products. The question is, are they merited? Don’t get me wrong, tax is a very important factor in investment planning. It should

be intelligently managed so that the gap between returns on a before and/or after tax basis do not become unacceptably wide. What concerns me is that, with all the excitement and allure of TFSAs, you may not have ensured that your entire investment portfolio is tax friendly. You simply cannot see these new products as the silver bullet to streamlining your tax efficiency.Istaxefficiencyyourmain priority?

What if I were to tell you that the TFSA is not the most tax friendly

product available on the market for the majority of investors. There is another product that not only provides tax free returns but also attractive tax deductions and generous tax concessions upon exit. You may have guessed it, the Retirement Annuity (also read Pension and Provident Funds). The numbers do not lie on this and yet many disregard Retirement Annuities in their planning due to preconceptions and previous bad experiences. This is justified, yet misdirected. You see, all the bad rap around these products stems from overpriced product providers who paid high broker commissions and levied punitive penalties. You can now access RAs that have the same fund selections as you would have in the TFSA and at the same low costs, with no penalties. “Ah yes,” you may rightly say, “but I can only touch it when I’m 55 – I need more flexibility than that.”Nowait, flexibilityismore important!

While it may provide flexibility, the TFSA is limited to R30 000 per annum and R500 000 in your lifetime! If you were to draw an income from this as your only investment, it would provide an income of R20 000 per annum (at a 4% drawdown). Hardly enough to live out your dream lifestyle on the North Coast! If your investment focus is flexibility, Collective Investment Schemes (CIS), also referred to as Unit Trusts, need to be considered. They

have no legislative limits and yet, if constructed correctly, they become highly tax efficient. So much so that one could almost get to the point of calling them tax free, with the various tax exemptions on interest and Capital Gains Tax.

So where do we stand with all this? You may ask whether I am placing my clients into TFSAs. The answer is - absolutely! This, however, is probably the smallest of the strategic moves we make in creating a tax efficient portfolio. With a focus on getting as much of the return swaying toward our client as opposed to the tax man, the TFSA doesn’t quite carry the punch it’s being marketed to have.

To give you an analogy, the introduction of a new ‘superfood’ into your diet without considering what else you eat, is not going to drastically transform your health. So too, the introduction of a single ‘super product’ is not going to transform your wealth. What is needed is a strategy that encompasses all the benefits available to you as an investor into a wholesome investment portfolio to fuel your lifestyle desires! And this is the art of proper Financial Planning and Advice.

GeT ClUeD UPNothing is as precious to parents as

their children. There is nothing within their power that parents will not do to protect their children and to give their children the very best in life that they are able to.

Shocking then that so many parents have to struggle to ensure that their children are financially properly cared for.

Unfortunately, often parents and ex-spouses are compelled to seek assistance from the courts in order to secure and / or enforce maintenance but if you find yourself in this unfortunate situation, where do you begin? It can be rather daunting to navigate your way around the legal system if you do not have the assistance of an attorney. Therefore, obtain legal advice regarding your specific circumstances. Having said that, you need to know the following basics.

CHIlD MAINTeNANCeThe law is fairly straightforward

when it comes to maintenance. It is in the application of the law that difficulties lie. Some interesting facts:

The obligation does not rest solely on the father as is often thought but rests on both parents, according to their respective means;

Once children reach the age of 18, they must claim their own maintenance by instituting action in their personal capacity;

The fact that a child is visiting a parent temporarily does not entitle that parent to suspend or reduce his/her maintenance during that period, unless a court order

contains a specific provision to the effect that this may happen;

A parent’s duty of support towards his/her child is not affected in any way by remarriage and a step-parent is also under no obligation to support a stepchild. Similarly, a child from a first marriage does not have priority over a child from a second marriage when it comes to maintenance obligations.

The refusal to allow a parent contact does not entitle that parent to stop paying maintenance.

When maintenance court makes an order regarding maintenance, such an order may be changed if circumstances change. This does not happen automatically and an application will have to be made to court to vary the existing order and requesting an increase, a reduction or a discharge of the existing maintenance.

The ordinary rules relating to parents’ duty to support also apply in respect of children born out of wedlock.

SPOUSAl MAINTeNANCeYou may not be aware that women

and men are equally entitled to seek maintenance awards. Our law currently favours the ‘clean break’ principle, which basically means that after a divorce the parties should become economically independent of each other as soon as possible. The court, however, does award spousal maintenance where necessary.

WHAT YOU SHOUlD KNOW ReGARDING THe DUTY OF SUPPORT:

During a marriage, each spouse owes to the other a reciprocal duty of support, provided that the person claiming such support is actually in need of it and can provide it, for example, if a woman does not have the financial means to support herself, her husband has a legal obligation to support her, and vice versa;

This support includes accommodation, clothing, food, medical services and other necessities, and is balanced by the couple’s social status, their means of income and the cost of living;

This reciprocal duty of support comes to an end on termination of the marriage, whether by death or divorce. However, in divorce situations, the Divorce Act 70 of 1979 makes provision for court orders relating to maintenance. Similarly, when a spouse dies, the surviving spouse can claim maintenance against the spouse’s deceased estate in terms of the Maintenance of Surviving Spouses Act 27 of 1990. The executor of the estate has a duty to pay the maintenance.

Orphaned Cub rescued From road-side Accident Bounces Back To Health

Thanks To Its New Collie Best Friend

The Fox and The hound

A young fox which was rescued after being struck by a car has bounced back to health thanks to the help

of a caring collie dog.The three-week-old fox was taken

to a vet after being found lying in the road next to its dead mother who had been killed in a road traffic accident.

The tiny animal, named Dinozzo, was checked over by a vet before being taken in by Werner and Angelika Schmaing, from Oberscheld, Germany. The couple, who also care for a dog, a cat and two piglets at their home, quickly introduced the young fox to their collie called Ziva.

Under the dog's watchful care, the injured fox has gone from strength to strength - and has now started to believe it is one of the dogs.

Dinozzo has also formed an unlikely friendship with the couple's

Bengal cat Leopald.Mr Schmaing, 51, who works as

a housekeeper at a local school, has raised a number of orphaned animals at his home including two piglets.

He said Ziva and Leopold 'fell in love with the little fox immediately'.

He said: 'The fox has gotten used to getting in and out of the house through the cats door. 'We've decided to let him live like any other fox outside the house.'

He said Ziva has taken the new role as mother in her stride and added: 'The interaction of animals is very much like siblings in a family.

'They are mostly peaceful, often playful and sometimes tired - sleeping together in one place.

'Our collie acts as a foster mum for the little ones.'

The two animals play together and will also sleep close to each other, after forming a strong friendship

The 250km drive from Ballito to Isandlwana is like a journey back in time through some of the most spectacular

countryside in the province. The first stretch is north along the N2

highway following the coastline until you take the glide off left towards Eshowe. Now you start to climb from the coastal lowlands into the foothills and ultimately the mountains of Zululand towards your destination. Along the way the road winds through well-tended farmland and mountain forests until you reach open rolling grassland - the heart of Zululand - just as observers in the British army described it over 130 years ago. And now, apart from the good tar road that you are driving on and the occasional communication tower, you could be back in the nineteenth century heading for a showdown with a British Army camped beneath a curiously sphinx-shaped hill that you can dimly see in the distant topography. You leave the tar and head along a gravel road towards the sphinx mountain. You are now 1300m above sea level and there is a nip in the air as you arrive at Isandlwana Lodge, a luxurious boutique hotel built high up on the Nqutu plateau overlooking the battlefield where so many soldiers and warriors perished in that legendary battle 132 years ago.

Your welcome is warm and inviting and you are escorted to your room, tastefully appointed with opulent en suite bathroom and private balcony overlooking a sweeping vista of mountain and field. Upstairs lunch is being prepared to fortify you for a gentle afternoon sortie to a place on the Buffalo River about 25 km further down the winding district road. Now the adventure begins – we call it The Dead Moon Battlefield Tour, a name that is entirely appropriate for what you are about to

experience. It was here, 132 years ago where a British

Army under the command of General Lord Chelmsford would come up against the might of the Zulu Empire in the first dramatic pitched battle of the Anglo Zulu war of 1879. The British camp at Isandlwana would be overrun by the Zulus in a battle that would be so costly in human life that it would ultimately topple the British Government and change the course of history.

The relative handful of souls that managed to escape the slaughter mostly managed to reach Natal by crossing the raging Buffalo River – the border between Natal and Zululand - at a place ever afterwards known as The Fugitives’ Drift. It was here that the first posthumous Victoria Crosses in history would be won by two officers who tried to save the colour of their regiment. They lie where they fell beneath a large boulder high up on a hillside on the Natal side of the river. This is where our story begins and by the time we return to the hotel, the shadows have grown long and the stars are beginning to appear in the rapidly darkening sky.

After freshening up, there is plenty of time for pre-dinner drinks around the fire before tucking into a delicious four course meal. The huge timber posts and beams that support the massive windows and intriguing thatched roof of the hotel were at one time part of a pier in the early port that would become Durban – so this relatively new hotel is in itself, very historic.

The next day, it’s off to an early start - breakfast followed by a morning of exploration as we unpack the facts, the myths, legends, anecdotes and memories that make up the story of the battle of Isandlwana. Nobody really knows what happened here because no one in the camp survived to

tell the tale and the Zulus left no written account of it, so our story is pieced together from what little evidence remains and what we have been able to glean from a lifetime of searching. Pioneered by the late David Rattray, and continued today through Life & Style Adventure Tours by his friend and colleague, Dave Charles, these battlefield tours bring history to life, putting things into perspective – stories collected from long gone characters and events brought sharply into focus capturing the imagination of people from across the world, many who continue to come time and again to experience it. Remarkably, because the topography has little changed, with just a hint of imagination as you listen to the story, you get to experience not what it might have been like, but what it was like…and you will never forget the experience.

After lunch, it’s back down the track to the Buffalo River and the old mission station that stands there still. This is Rorke’s Drift, famous for the battle that took place here on the same day, just a few hours after the massacre of the British army at Isandlwana. A single company of British soldiers, many of them raw recruits, had been left behind here to guard the mission station that had recently been turned into a makeshift hospital and commissariat depot for the British army. They were now directly in the path of that victorious Zulu force heading straight for them…what chance did they have.

They fought behind a barricade of mealie bags and biscuit boxes and they held out all night until the Zulus withdrew leaving them “utterly done” but with most of them still standing. And they won eleven Victoria Crosses that night, more than would ever be won again in a single military engagement in history – including both world wars. It’s a

AH yes, as a new mom I've discovered kids get sick all the time... and I mean All the time! even my healthy, real-food-

eating, raw-milk-drinking, superfood-smoothie-loving toddler has had his fair share of fevers, snotty noses, coughs, colds, infections etc etc.! bUT, as it turns out this is actually a good thing! Crazy right!? Allow me to explain...

Children are in fact designed to get sick regularly. Getting sick is the healthiest thing a growing immune system can do because this is how it learns to identify pathogenic threats as well as how to fight them. The human immune system is truly remarkable in that the more opportunity it has to grow and develop (when we get sick), especially in the early years, the stronger and more efficient it will be in the later years.Let them eat dirt

I've also learnt that kids tend to put EVERYTHING in their mouths! Again this is a good thing. In fact it's part of a deliberate system designed to get as much bacteria into their little bodies as possible. According to Mary Ruebush, a microbiology and immunology instructor, and author of the book, “Why Dirt Is Good” (Kaplan): “What a child is doing when he puts things in his mouth is allowing his immune response to explore his environment. Not only does this allow for ‘practice’ of immune responses, which will be necessary for protection, but it also plays a critical role in teaching the immature immune response what is best ignored.” therefore, wash in moderation

The current obsession to 'clean' our children's environment with antibacterial everything and 'treat' them with antibiotics the moment they even sneeze, has gone too far. Yes, these products are useful when used appropriately, however, their over-use and abuse has done nothing other than offer a false sense of security and potentially even fostered the development of antibiotic-resistant, disease-causing bacteria.

Another reason to avoid antibiotics unless absolutely essential, is the fact that they (in the long-run) teach our immune systems absolutely nothing about how to fight infection! Along with the harmful bacteria, antibiotics will wipe out our stores of beneficial gut flora as well – which are, of course, supposed to be our first line of immune defence in the first place! See the vicious cycle!?

We simply cannot escape the fact that bacteria are everywhere; in and all around us. Most are completely harmless, lots are beneficial and some even essential for good health. Bottom line: RELAX! Let your kids taste dirt (in moderation of course!!!), leave them barefoot, wash them with simple soap and water and let them play with animals. So how much sickness is normal?

In the first year of life, you can expect your child to get sick around 8-12 times! It isn’t much better in the second year, when children get sick an average of 6-8 times. However, these

illnesses generally aren’t serious, just the usual colds, tummy bugs and flu-like illnesses. It is also important to note that children are NOT all the same, some just simply get sick more often than others. Also, typically the more children your child is around the more likely he is to get sick (ever heard of day-care syndrome!?). ok, so what's the good news!?

The good news is that an immune system doesn’t forget! It has a memory. Once it has identified and fought a germ, it remembers it and can mount a much larger response the next time the germ visits, often killing it before it can take root and cause illness. This is called “acquired immunity.” To give you an example, if you get chicken pox as a child, you [generally] won’t also get it as an adult because you have acquired immunity to it. So while it”s never fun to have a sick child, you can at least be encouraged by the fact that they are strengthening their defences and will be able to protect themselves from that virus or bacteria in the future.

Also, there is strong evidence that having some natural childhood illnesses like measles and mumps protects from diseases later in life, including cancer. Therefore, well-managed natural infectious diseases are beneficial for children. So how can i well-manage my sick child?• Let them sleep as much as possible in order for their immune system to recharge and strengthen.• Keep them well hydrated with water (not juice!) for optimal immune function.• If they'll eat, feed them nutritious REAL food rich in healthy fats and protein, zinc and vitamin C. Home-made chicken soup with medicinal mushrooms and other simple to digest foods can be really helpful. Avoid dairy, gluten, legumes and grains. If they don’t have an appetite, then just focus on water and healing liquids such as bone broth and/or herbal teas with lemon, ginger, cinnamon and raw honey/manuka honey. • Cut out all forms of sugar and processed foods - which depress the immune system. • Supplement their diet with natural immune-boosting nutrients such as cod liver oil, elderberry, Echinacea, colostrum, vitamin D, vitamin C and probiotics all in kid-friendly drops or chewable tablets. ONLY use antibiotics or other medications if absolutely necessary. • A fever is a good thing as it will kill a virus, however, if it gets too high treat immediately and appropriately.

• Let your child spend some time outdoors; barefoot, in the sunlight and breathing clean fresh air, such as, on the beach, in a forest or simply sitting on some grass near some trees/plants. Nature does wonders for boosting immunity and bringing a smile to that sad face. • Lastly, be patient (sick kids don’t heal overnight!) pray for them and be generous with your cuddles, kisses and love!So to answer the question...

Kids get sick so often because they’re supposed to get sick so often! And... this is a good thing because their immune systems are learning and developing, meaning they'll be stronger and healthier and less likely to get sick as they grow up. So if your child is home sick again take a deep breath and remember it’s OK.

MovE and fEEL Good

THAT’S why you need to get it right to truly benefit.

That’s why yoga is such hard work. The skills you learn become automatic

responses; initially you have to learn them through practice and repetition.

Your body wants and needs movement. It doesn’t actually care about being thin or having showy muscles. What it wants is to feel energized and fresh – and that’s what yoga gives it. Without awareness, energy lies either un-awakened, or courses through us chaotically – yoga gives you the power to store, organize, circulate and use energy at its full capacity. This energy brings you composure, intuition, relaxation, creativity and vigour. Anyone with good stamina has energy flow – yoga class will wake it up and show you what you’ve been missing. Lift up tall - relish the beauty of our seaside towns that have melded together. Make eye contact with people and smile

– they don’t think you’re as crazy as city people do. Maybe they’re also connected to their bubbling inner energy and feeling good. Feel the rhythm of life, notice how lucky you are – you can carry good feelings with you no matter what challenges life presents. Talking of challenges – oh beloved yoga, what a challenge! The first one being to still the “Yadda Yadda” of the mind and be calm so you can absorb instruction. Some sweet key words will help you to connect with what you’re trying to do – GROUND your body and settle purposefully into your feet. PAUSE to steady nerves and know that you can do it, CENTRE yourself as you find good posture and spinal understanding. ENGAGE as you speak to the muscles deep in pelvis and torso. BALANCE as you find symmetry and correct yourself. INTEGRATE as body and mind connect and correlate. RELEASE as you exhale and know that you are achieving!

The body’s performance is improved by clarifying

and refining our energy, the state of our being. Not only do we improve our performance in whatever we want – including simply living – we improve our capacity to be in the here and now, joyfully, acceptingly, unquestioning.

Namaste.

I often get asked random fitness

questions and it often amazes me that people try and skip these simple fundamental steps in fitness and well-being and still expect to get results. So I have compiled this very simple list of things you need to do or stop doing, to get a lean, ripped, athletic, strong, toned, awesome body. For some, it might be too much to take in all at once, so I suggest just making one change at a time. For others, it might be yawn, yawn, and

thanks for stating the obvious dude. but it's that important. Cut this out, stick it on your fridge, start making changes, your life will be better, guaranteed. Here are the first 5 to my 10 Fitness Commandments:

1. Finish your veg! Turns out Mom was right and there is no getting around this one. Consider it your natural vitamin pills. Aim for 5 servings a day, throw in a few fruits in the mornings or as snacks.

2. Drink water, not coffee, not tea, not fruit juice. WATER! 8 glasses a day.

3. Sleep 8 hours. Why start your

day on the back foot and load your body with caffeine and sugar to get through the day. Get into bed early. If you battle to fall asleep, skip the TV, cellphones and tablets 2 hours before bed. Read a book and you'll be in lala land before you know it.

4. No substance. Don't drink. Plain and simple, the less alcohol you have, the less you are poisoning yourself and the more your liver can work the way it is supposed to. Same for the lungs so no smoking.

5. Cut the sugar. As previously mentioned, this stuff is toxic. Watch for the hidden sugars, especially sauces

and dressings. Get your energy from real food, food that doesn't come in packets.

the captur has arrived

The all-new ReNAUlT CAPTUR Crossover is Renault’s latest addition to its fresh and diverse model line-up and set

to be a serious contender in South Africa’s very popular and highly competitive small utility vehicle (SUV) category.

While the beautifully practical Captur crossover has the attributes of a standard SUV, it embodies so much more. Combining the personality of a SUV and the spaciousness of an MPV with the dynamism of a hatch, new Renault Captur crossover is the ultimate all-in-one package. Competitively priced, the entry-level Expression 66kW Turbo carries a price tag of just R219 900.

Renault Captur offers three derivatives, all petrol-powered: the flagship Dynamique EDC featuring Renault’s new generation 1.2 litre 88kW EDC Turbo power plant, the Dynamique 66kW Turbo and Expression 66kW Turbo. These new generation Turbo engines are a direct result of Renault’s renowned adaptation of Formula 1 (F1) technology and transfer to road cars.

An easy-to-drive, multi-functional and -faceted crossover that strikes

the ideal balance between beautiful design and practicality, Captur offers a choice of bi-tone body colours (Dynamique models only) and 16” and 17” alloys rims as standard on Expression and Dynamique variants respectively. Super-stylish, curvaceous lines are complemented by the chrome-plated Renault diamond set into the imposing black grille as well as the front LED lights already mentioned.

With its flexible, modular layout, Captur’s interior is spacious - as is the boot area - which houses hidden, yet easy-to-access storage space. Immediately eye-catching are the innovative shell-shaped seats which feature trendily designed, practical zip collection covers (on Dynamique models) that are easily removed and washable. Leather seats are an option on the Dynamique 88kW EDC variant.

Renault Captur continues to be a

global success for the brand - success that Renault South Africa is confident of emulating in the local market. For those spirited, searching individuals who appreciate the finer things, simply love life and savour every moment of it,

the new Renault Captur crossover is the perfect lifestyle complement.
