Seiri(sort) -Remove unnecessary items from the work area.

Seiton(set in order) -Organise , identify and arrange everything in work area.

Seiso(shine)-Clean the work area and eliminate sources of contamination.

Seiketsu(standardise)-Create a standardised and consistent 5s work flow. Assign task and create schedule for others.

Shitsuke(sustain)-Ensure that 5s is a long term goal . Analyse results , hold team meetings and train workers.

Seiri(sort)-Sorting out goods , products in proper manner.

Seiton(set in order)-Identify locations to keep different products and manage cash.

Seiso(shine)- Cleaning the shelves , protection against organisms that could cause damage to grocery products.

Seiketsu(standardise)- Maintaining the quality of products by giving more preference to branded items.

Shitsuke(sustain)- Supervising on day to day basis to all the above measures.

Application of Seiri(Sort)

It simply quotes that “when in doubt throw it out..”

This picture shows Mukteshwari grocery store of Banasthali University. A worker is sorting the wafer packets in an efficient way.

Only necessary items are bought and stored systematically depicted by the picture.

The photograph shows that all the necessary items are kept in order.

This helps the items to be easily accessed by all the workers so that they are provided to the customers as soon as possible.b

This saves time and makes workflow easy and efficient.

Application of Seiso(Shine)

The picture depicts that the shelves are properly cleaned on regular basis.

The shop also has dustbins to ensure hygiene and cleanliness.

Application of Seiketsu(Standardise)

Seiketsu refers to setting high standard and making rules to meet the same.

The quality of the products is maintained at the grocery store . Branded products are mostly preferred over local ones.

Application of Shitsuke(Sustain)

Shitsuke refers to sustain other four activities after implementation.

This picture depicts the supervisor of the shop maintaining the record of the products being loaded and sold everyday.

It must be ensured that above 4s activities are being managed properly.

Innovative applications

Debit cards can be used as a source to pay.

Better pest control techniques should be used to ensure cleanliness.

Cleanliness of outside the shop should be taken care of(more dustbins should be installed.

Cartons should be sent for recycling rather than disposing them off here and there.

Lessons learnt by the team

We have learnt importance of 5s. We should keep necessary items in order , labeled and clean. We need to sustain by discipline.

We not only can use 5s in organizations but also can apply in our daily lives even in small things such as study table etc..
