Question - what are the first things that come to mind when you hear:
q INTROVERT?
q EXTROVERT?
q AMBIVERT?
An "introvert" is a person who is energized by their own inner world of ideas and images.
An "extrovert“ is a person who is energized by being with other people.
Ambiverts have both introverted and extroverted traits, but neither trait is dominant. As a result, they have more balanced, or nuanced, personalities.

Basis: MBTI Tool (Myers-Briggs) MBTI® tool explores four pairings/8 differences. Include: 1) how we are
energized, 2) the type of
information we prefer to pay attention to,
3) how we make decisions and
4) the type of lifestyle we prefer to lead

Personality Continuum
“There is no such thing as a pure introvert or extrovert. Such a person would be in the lunatic asylum.” —Carl G. Jung
*www.fastcompany.com; Belle Beth Cooper, Aug. 2013 **www.scienceofpeople.com; Vanessa Van Edwards Traits by Larry Kim.
Swiss psychologists Haller and Courvoisier (2010) reported that the most
creative individuals were the more "complex personalities"
who could switch between introversion and extraversion.

Biology
*www.fastcompany.com; Belle Beth Cooper, 2013.
For extroverts, the pathway is much shorter. It runs through an area where taste, touch, visual, and auditory sensory processing takes place. For introverts, stimuli run through a long, complicated pathway in areas of the brain associated with remembering, planning, and solving problems.
Results highlight what the researchers consider the main difference between introverts and extroverts: inward and outward focus. Reserved individuals are more introspective, attentive to internal thoughts, while ‘wilder’ individuals are driven by sights and sounds—they crave sensory stimulation.

Intersect: Personality + Emotional Intelligence
www.psychologytoday.com; Preston Ni, 2012.
q Emotional Intelligence (EQ or EI) defined as the ability to understand, manage, and effectively express one's own feelings, as well as engage and navigate successfully with those of others.
q EQ is essential in the formation, development, maintenance, and enhancement of close personal relationships.
q Unlike IQ, which does not change significantly over a lifetime, our EQ can evolve and increase with our desire to learn and grow.
Five keys to quickly improve one's EQ: 1. The ability to deal with one's own negative emotions 2. The ability to stay cool under pressure 3. The ability to stay proactive, not reactive in the face of a difficult person 4. The ability to be assertive and express difficult emotions when necessary 5. The ability to express intimate emotions in close, personal relationships
According to Talent Smart, 90% of high performers at the work place possess high EQ, while 80% of low performers have low EQ.

making and behaviors. q Decision making/behaviors impact procurement’s
ability to deliver value q Self-awareness (individually and collectively) is
critical for mastery Other: q Take the time to understand styles of your team
and business partners q Create working environments to get the best from
them based on those styles/personalities q Offer training/assessments to create awareness q Monitor continuously to attain right talent, improve
retention, and optimize overall business support model
