From The Principal... Tena koutou katoa Friday 15th March 2013 Term 1, Week 6

Te Ranga School’s Charter, Strategic Plan and National Standards results have recently been submitted to the Ministry of Education. We are very pleased with our results. We are now reviewing this information for development of the School Charter for 2014-16. Copies of the Charter can be found online at our website or at school.

Achievement results from 2012

Reading - 97% of all our students are achieving at or above the National Standard Writing - 90% of all our students are achieving at or above the National Standard Maths - 81% of all our students are achieving at or above the National Standard

This year our focus target is in the area of Mathematics / Numeracy. We will be having a Community Sharing night on Numeracy on Wednesday 27th March from 5.30pm. Mrs Barton and teachers are running this meeting to support parents’ understanding of the Numeracy Project.

Board of Trustees Meeting Agenda Monday 18th March - All welcome to attend.

The following items will be discussed at the next Board of Trustees Meeting:

Charter Update (DP)

Principal Appraisal (CW)

BOT Rules and Responsibilities folder update (CW)

Strategic Planning – Target Area (GV)

Policy Review – Part 2, Number 11

‘Cool Schools’ Course

Te Ranga school is a ‘Cool School’ again this year. The Cool Schools peer mediation programme empowers learners, develops leadership skills and teaches lifelong self-management and conflict resolution strategies.

The school will be hosting this course from 3 – 6 p.m. on Thursday the 21st March and then again on Thursday the 4th of April. Staff will then work alongside students teach them about this programme so they are able to make a positive difference in the school as peer mediators.

Possum and Pig Hunt (4th - 7th July 2013)

The Friends of Te Ranga School are already starting to collect prizes for the Possum and Pig Hunt. Any donations would be much appreciated to help with our fundraising efforts. Please contact Angie 573 9426 or the school if you know of any.

Firewood for Sale - Fundraiser

The school has dry / aged cryptomeria firewood available. This wood is in the paddock next to the school. A trailer or ute load can be taken away for a $60 donation to the school. Please contact us on 573 8032 if you are interested. Part of this donation is tax-deductible. The money raised will help with the playground and Parkour development.

Don’t miss out on the opportunity to hear Celia speaking locally. We are confident that this show will sell out and we’d hate for our own school community to miss out. Don’t leave it until the last minute - grab your tickets now. In addition to online sales and tickets available at Paperplus, we also have a limited amount of tickets to purchase at the school office.

ICONZ Programme

Iconz is a weekly programme for boys who want a real life rather than a virtual one and it's become available to us to run during the lunch break one day per week if we can get the people to lead it. It’s fun, action-packed, and it needs blokes to make it work...

The students have been given an insert which, if folded up, makes a dart-or Iconz information flyer. Please take time to look at the Iconz website to find out more about Iconz. We would like to have our own unit here at Te Ranga but it needs some volunteer adults to make it work. So… if you're a parent or adult that would like to get on board, please contact us here at the school office and we will put you in contact with Iconz. If you don't think you have what it takes to lead a team, you might be surprised at what you can do. Iconz believe that if you have blood pumping around then you are alive - you have what it takes to lead Iconz! - while that is a slight exaggeration. Iconz have a 'team approach' to their activities, and see a great value in utilising the strengths of the team members. They offer training and support for all of their volunteers.
