TERM 4 WEEK 02 18 OCTOBER 2016
SCHOOL MESSAGE
This is the home stretch for 2016! There are 63 more days until the end of
term - 63 more days of teaching, learning, cooperation, respect, fun,
excursions and all the things that being part of a school community means.
For some students, like our 43 Year 6 students, these last 63 days will be
their last at Oxley Vale Public School. We hope they will make the most of
the remaining time they have with us.
For other (future-)students, like the
more than 40 young people enrolled in
our ‘Kinder Ready’ program, these 63
days are a countdown bringing them
closer to the day that they can start ’big
school’ themselves. Term 4 is an
exciting time!
One highlight of this term will be Presentation Evening, to be held on
Tuesday 6 December. This night celebrates the achievements of our
students in academic, sporting, social and cultural areas and is always well
attended and enjoyed. To facilitate preparations for this event, can those
families who are in possession of one of our perpetual trophies or shields
(celebrating student achievement in 2015) please return them to the office
so they can be awarded to this year’s recipients. Thank you.
If you have the opportunity to do so, please take the time to wish Taj
Bone, Atem Atuich, Colby Edgar and Kaiden Lahrs well as these students
travel to the State Athletics meet to represent our school in discus, high
jump and relay events. We have no doubt they will represent our school
well and congratulate them on making it this far.
Let’s work together to make these next 63 days great ones at our school!
OVPS Staff
[Special Award Recipients, Week 1]
HUNGRY KIDS NEED HELPING HAND
The P&C are currently looking for volunteers who are able
to assist in the school canteen, particularly on Thursdays.
This regular commitment involves approximately 3 hours.
If you are interested, please speak directly to Caterina in the
canteen or contact the P&C (you can Facebook message
‘Oxley Vale Public School P&C’).
MASS AT ST. NICHOLAS
Every year, St. Nicholas Parish offers students enrolled in
Catholic Religious Education (‘Catholic Scripture’) the
opportunity to participate in the celebration of Holy Mass.
It is a time of thanksgiving; a time to acknowledge the role
of God in the children’s spiritual journey and to celebrate
and to pray.
Students from Catholic Scripture who intend to attend the
Mass on Friday 28 October will travel by bus to the
church and be returned to school afterwards. Permission
notes should be returned to school by Friday 21 October.
STAFF CAR PARK
Parents are asked not to drive into the staff car park to use it
as a drop off point for their children at the beginning of
school. This car park is for staff parking only.
TIME TO RETURN PERPETUAL TROPHIES
At our school’s annual presentation evening a number of
perpetual awards are given. These awards include a shield or
trophy which is taken home by the awardee for one year and
then returned. If your child received such an award in 2015
can you please arrange for the return of the shield or trophy
in the next fortnight so the award can be given at this year’s
presentation night. Thank you.
TRAFFIC DELAYS ON MANILLA ROAD
You have undoubtedly seen the beginning of road works on
Peel Street / Manilla Road at the Tribe Street intersection.
Roads and Maritime have informed the school that these
works will extend from September 2016 to March 2017 and
will cause possible traffic delays from 8am - 6pm, Mondays to
Saturdays.
While the school will not be directly affected and bus
companies have been asked to plan school routes around the
traffic works, parents are advised that there may be traffics
delays travelling from the direction of Tamworth CBD to the
school and are asked to allow extra time for school drop-offs
and pick-ups if travelling from that direction.
27 HAPPY CHILDREN THIS CHRISTMAS
This year our school took part in the
Operation Christmas Child program run by
Samaritan’s Purse and filled 27 shoeboxes
with small gifts to be sent as Christmas
presents to underprivileged children in third world countries.
Thank you to all who made donations.
PLEASE CHECK LOST PROPERTY
With winter over there is a substantial collection of lost
jumpers, hats and trackpants in the lost property area near the
canteen. Please check it for items that may belong to your
family before items are discarded or donated to charity.
[Merit Award Winners in Term 4, Week 1]
THE VIEW FROM THE SIDELINE STATE ATHLETICS
All the best to Taj Bone, Atem Atuich, Colby
Edgar and Kaiden Lahrs who are competing
in Sydney this week at the State Athletics
Carnival. The whole school is very proud of you and can't
wait to hear about your experiences and results.
The OVPS boys cricket team started another season
last Saturday. Although the boys had a narrow defeat, they
continued where they left off last season with excellent
sportpersonship and participation.
JUMP ROPE RESULTS
Well done to the whole OVPS
community - we raised $3958.18
which will be used by The Heart
Foundation to fund research into
heart disease. The prizes have arrived
and our excited students will receive
them this week. Thank you to
everyone who helped contribute to
this worthwhile cause. Primary
students sure enjoyed watching Mr
Norman, Ms Hancock, Mr Steele and Mrs Ellis jump rope in
their colourful tutus on the last day of term!
SPORTSPERSON OF THE WEEK
Colby Edgar received the Sportsperson of the Week award in
Week 1. Since joining our relay team, Colby has been training
hard and shows determination to do his best! Well done.
