How Do We Protect Our Children?
Several weeks ago a parishioner caught me after Sunday mass and asked me the above question. She mentioned I had stated several times there were processes in place to make sure the children of the parish were protected; she wanted to know what those were and how she might be part of them to do her part in pro-tecting the children of the parishes. I will make
some general comments and then in the future I will have some of the staff write about the steps they take to make sure not only the children are safe but all the members of the parishes and those we interact with are respected and kept safe. You will also find more information if you go to the website of the archdiocese (archmil.org) and search under keyword “Safeguarding.”
On the national level you have the “Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People” which is a comprehensive set of procedures originally established by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) in 2002. This charter (often referred to as the Dallas Charter) was written to address the allegations of sexual abuse of minors by Catholic clergy. This charter also includes guidelines for reconciliation, healing, accountability and prevention of future acts of abuse. The latest revision of this document took place this year 2018. All dioceses of the United States are audited on an annual basis to make sure they are following this charter. Sadly, as we have seen the past few months, not all of our church’s leadership take this charter seriously; if they had the issues we have been reading about would have been addressed years ago. Some of the key points addressed in the charter are:
• Creating a safe environment for children and young people.
• Healing and reconciliation of victims and survivors.
• Prompt and effective responses to allegations.
• Cooperating with civil authorities.
• Disciplining offenders
• Providing for means of accountability for the future to ensure the problem continues to be effectively dealt with.
In the future I will address what takes place on the level of our own archdiocese and following that I will speak about the steps we take on the local scene for our Waukesha parishes.

¿Cómo proteger a nuestros niños? Hace varias semanas, una feligresa conversó conmigo des-pués de la misa del domingo y me hizo una pregunta. Ella mencionó que yo había dicho varias veces que había proce-sos para asegurar que los niños de la parroquia estuvieran protegidos; Quería saber de qué se trataba y cómo podría ser parte de estos para hacer su parte en la protección de los niños de las parroquias. FROM THE FINANCE OFFICE:
It is so hard to believe that over a year has passed since we reshaped the cluster and staffing of the four parishes. There are
so many good things happening in the
parishes and we are confident that will
continue. From the financial side, this is what is happening:
As of June 30th we closed the fiscal year and have filed our financials with the Archdiocese. As a final step, we are
currently conducting a financial reconciliation by an outside accounting firm (Anick & Associates). This financial
reconciliation will review the financials of the four parishes
to assure that all allocations between the parishes have been handled correctly and the financial statements are correct. We anticipate that will be completed in the next two weeks.
Once the financial reconciliation is completed, we will be publishing financials to each of the four parishes at an annual corporate meeting to be held with each of the four parishes, which is a state requirement of our incorporation. At that time, you will also receive a report on the state of the parish in the ministries. Our goal is to have those meetings
scheduled prior to Thanksgiving. Watch the bulletin for those dates to be published.

St. Mary Vincentians visited 33 families during the past month. Have you
considered answering the call to help serve

rd Thursday of each

Confirmation
We have nearly 30 of our confirmation candidates on retreat this weekend. Please keep the teens, their small group leaders, and the retreat leaders in your prayers. We are still in need of chaperones for both retreats in November, so all confirmation parents should select a night to chaperone. Information packets for November retreats have been sent via US mail and email; contact our office if you have retreat questions.

All parents of children preparing for First Sacraments should have submitted paperwork and selected either Tuesday or

Child Ministry Food Drive
Child Ministry is collecting food for the St. William Food Pantry for their Thanksgiving Food Boxes. Donations can be brought to Faith Formation classes any time before November 4 and placed in the bins in the glass lobby at St. William or brought to the Formation Office at St. Mary. Child ministry classes have been assigned specific items to donate.

Great Adventure Bible Study
The series Walking Toward Eternity, led by Jerry and Becky Campbell, begins this week, October 25, at 7 p.m. at St. John Neumann and continues on Thursdays for 8 weeks. The cost of program materials is $20, and registration is required.
Gospel of Luke Bible Study
Beginning with the first Sunday of Advent this year, we will hear the Gospel of Luke on Sundays. Join Pat Knuth as she shares this a what Luke emphasizes about the story of Jesus Christ and what makes this Gospel unique. Sessions are Mondays at 6:30 p.m., November 12—December 3 at St. William at
the Vercelli House, and Wednesday mornings at St. Mary after the 8:00 a.m. Mass.
Wisdom Community Thanksgiving Luncheon
Please join us on Thursday, November 15th for a catered Thanksgiving luncheon and entertainment in the St. William Parish Hall. Lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m. with entertainment to follow. The families that mourn their loss do not do so alone. The whole community is invited to pray because when one mem-ber suffers, we all suffer. Ladder of Memory
During the month of October our St Joseph’s community will be
preparing for All Souls Day Mass, November 2, 2018 at 7:00 pm.
Please bring a picture of your deceased loved one and place it on the Ladder of Memory to celebrate their life. Put the name of your loved on the picture and on the back your contact information for returning the pictures. “We were indeed buried with him through baptism into death, so that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might live in newness of life.”

Sal y Luz Youth Encounter 2018
On October 13, Hispanic/Latino youth participated in the
annual Sal y Luz Youth Encounter with the Archbishop Jerome Listecki. Twenty-five youth from St. Joseph gathered with 600 youth from around the Archdiocese of Milwaukee to pray, to laugh and to have fun with their peers.
Two youth from the Archdiocese of Milwaukee discerned a call from the Holy Spirit to pursue a vocational calling during their experience at the Encounter. The event took place at Carroll University.
A monumental task was completed last Friday with the
paving, striping and landscaping of the lower parking lot.
New efficient lighting will finish off the environment. We
are grateful for the heavy work that was provided by
Poblocki Paving.
ST. MARY ST. WILLIAM
Christian Women are looking for turkey breasts for the delicious turkey sandwiches that everyone loves at the Christmas Craft Fair. You may place them in the freezer in the Parish Hall. Thank You!
Chili Cook-Off
This weekend,

Chili Cook-Off.
If you are ready to do some taste testing, bring your

Shawn Reilly, Mayor of Waukesha, and Andy Ruggeri,

St. Mary will accept non-perishable food donations and cash donations for the FOOD PANTRY on the 4th weekend of October, the 27th and 28th. The golden bushel baskets will be set out in the sanctuary to accept your contributions. You may also continue to deposit food items in the barrels at the three narthexes and the parish office. Our
Food Pantry can always use basic food supplies such as canned fruit and vegetables, soup, tuna, cereal, mac & cheese, desserts, ketchup, pasta etc. Thank you for your generosity

St. William Rummage Sale News
Thank you to everyone who helped in any way to make this year’s Fall Rummage Sale a huge success. Our income before expenses is $10,270.75 from all your efforts. A special thank you to Sandy Groninger for chairing the event , support chairpersons, Cynthia LaHue,
Cindy and Don Jansta, and to everyone else who helped, whether you helped to set up or take down tables, helped to sort and price all
the items for the sale, helped to clean-up after the sale or donated items and treasures. We could not have had such a successful event
without each one of you!
