Humanity is like little children in many respects, and in no-ne so, perhaps, than that the False God of Fear rules their very exist-

ence. They are afraid to do this, and they are afraid to do that, andthey lack moral courage, to weigh, consider and decide. They lack faithin themselves, they are afraid to trust the Inner Voice, and when thingsgo wrong, instead of seeking within themselves, for the causeinsteadof placing themselves under the microscope to scrutinize their own ha-bits, thoughts and ideas, they seek outer aid, they seek special inter-vention, they plead and beseech God to personally ’set aside the GreatLaws of the Universe, and to shield them from the consequences of theirown wrong thinking, their own wrong living, regardless of the fact thatin the majority of cases, they continue right on in :the same way, andbring the same consequences upon themselves again and again. They for-get that in the great Scheme of Human life, disease, poverty, all ofthe ills and sorrow of Earth, must continue, and come again and again,

until the lessons which they would teach, have been engraved so deeplyinto the Soul, that it avoids setting into motion, those Forces in thefuture. Thus having learned its lesson, those things vanish,to troubleit no more.

Man is a human radio, and like this instrument, can be attun-ed satisfactorily to but one rate of vibration at a time. Of the thous-ands of messages passing thru the Earth simultaneously, a well con-structed receiving set today, can be attuned to any one, while all therest will have no more effect, than if they never existed. The more Se-lective the instrument, the higher grade is its mechanism, and it is identically the same with Man,on the Planes of Consciousness and Naturethru which he is evolving. If we will follow completely and persistent-ly, daily and hourly, the thoughts that have been laid down in the

chats, we will marvel at the results, we will find that this daily andhourly development of mind and Spirit, attunes us to ever finer cur-rents, whereby we receive an influx of energy thru ever higher, finer, natural Planes, and we will find that in the carrying out of our LifePlan, we can bow our heads, and in silent Prayer, ask the SpiritualHier»&hlesy or_the._Majster Himsplf, for the Light and Knowledge we need, and the Strength to carry thru* We will find that we can ask in thisway, and receive the Inspiration which points the way where no wayseems to exist, but we can only do this when we have demonstrated byevery hour and day of our existence, that we are utilizing the Talentswe have developing and expanding them, and that we have a keen reali-zation of our own responsibilities, as well as our own powers andabilities.

summer greenness to the deep fall* hues, browns, russets, reds and yel-

lows. The air takes on a new crisp-ness. One feels renewed energy andvigor, for the summer with its long, lazy days,is over,Nature has brought

a new stimulus. It is quite differ-ent from that which she offers inthe spring when all life is awakeningto a newness, a freshness, after aperiod of dormancy. That might bedescribed as the first cycle of ac-tivity, the first challenge to doand to accomplish. As Nature swingson in her rhythmic ebb and flow, carrying us through the fruitful andrestful period of summer,it comesagain into a period of stimulation. This second cycle however, rather

than one of newness,is one of full-ness,of enriched experiences, uponwhich to base more highly perfectedactions.

    * In all of life1 s expression wefind the four fold cycle, spring, summer, autumn and winter — child-hood, youth, adulthood, and age.The soul too, goes through a similar

cycle,it knows its infancy when itis scarcely aware of the vast ev-olutionary process of which it isa part, just as the baby is unawareof any but its immediate world aboutit. Gradually as the Soul's days ofincarnation pass it grows into itsyouth, it knows the fire and enthus-iasm of that period of first awaken-ing, it is impetuous, sublimely con-fident In its powers and abilities,

yet as the physical youth learns bytrial and error by testing of hisstrength and observing results sodoes the soul as it goes throughthis stage learn ty experience andpass on to the cycle of adulthood. It has grown in stature and after aperiod of enjoyment of its accom-plishments, of rightful rest fol-lowing victories won,it knows againan urge to’know1 itself, to round outand complete its perceptionof lifethat it may enter into the wisdom of

age. This autumn let us accept Na-

ture’s stimulation in its hidden aswell as its outer sense, let us re-kindle the fires of the soul and rededicate ourselves to consciousfulfillment of its great mission.

"The practice of Astral Projec-tion is not unlike the practice of■piloting an aeroplane. The novice(Neophyte) pilot finds the Ttakeoff’ exceedingly difficult. Fol-lowing hours of study and concen-tration in a school of discipline*

he is finally privileged to takethe controls of his ship At first, his fear and lack of confidencewill cause him to make many unsuc-cessful starts;he will ascend buta few thousand feet at a time.Still fearful, the encounter ofmany air pockets, low clouds; orperhaps a thick fog, is very dis-couraging. He is eager to returnto the hangar, even though he maydescend too'suddenly and find thelanding somewhat rough and his

nerves a bit jittery. However, thru great determination, patienceand many test flights, the glor-ious day arrives. The day whenthoughts of fearfulness are elim-inated. He has learned to travellight; the one start is all thatis necessary. Undaunted, he soarsthe very Heights. Jagged tors, low clouds, dense fog; winds andstorm dare not harm nor disturb.Thru his Power of Magic, all Na-ture responds to his command I Tohim, there is neither time norspace. His clock Consciousnessis set to bring him back to hishangar in safety; following asmooth and perfect landing. "Recent references to Moses inthe work made me slightly curiousas to the esoteric meanings to be

found in his history. In that sec-tion of the Zohar entitled theGreater Holy Assembly some hintsare given as to this mighty figure.First of all there is said,Never-theless what one of the prophets was so great as Moses? For neverwas any man so worthy as he, forhe heard the DBVR, Debur, loudvoice, like the proclamation of aherald, and he feared not, neitherdid he tremble.’ Then came the in-formation that, ’He was perfectfrom the very day of his birth’.This type of perfection is thatwhich is to be found only in thecases of Race Teachers,of Manus.MHSH the Hebrew spelling of hisname yeilds 545. Applying thesenumbers to the Sephirothic pow-ers we see perfect understandingthru the balancing of justice andmercy. Here again the Zohar castsa light. For it tells us that,’So great was the virtue of Moses

that he could make the measuresof Mercy descend’. Also we aretold, ’Moses hath no duty to per form save in the place where judg-ment is found...... Moses spokenot, save in that time when theIsraelites had sinned and judgmentwas impending.’

"Our doubts,"said the Bard ofAvon, "are traitorsand make us losethe good we oftmight win, by fear-ing to attempt." Doubt is but a formof fear, but it expresses in such

subtle ways it isn't always recognizedas the dangerous enemy it really is.There are many, when they take upthe study of Occult Laws and Princi-ples, who feel that they understandthem as soon as they intellectuallycomprehend them; but when they beginto put their knowledge into practice, there is a tendency for it to benullified by their doubts.. Affir-mations, for example, seem so simplebut commence to use them and seewhat questioning begins to arise.

"How is it possible to secure whatI need merely by speaking to my-self?" "I wonder if that is true,if it is going to work for me as Ihave been taught?" Now when thatquestioning, when that doubt beginsto arise, success has already beendealt a heavy blow. Fear must beconquered before ycru can reasonablyexpect to attain success in anythingyou may undertake. In myriad wayswill this negative factor creep in.You may fear criticism, ridicule,

competition, lack of education, lack of what you consider a properfinancial status and innumerableother things.

We are taught in Occult Philos-ophy that the way to change any un-desirable tendency or quality is byconcentration upon its opposite, soto overcome fear we should set towork along the lines plainly des-cribed by the Great World Teachersthroughout the ages. The MasterJesus said,"All things whatsoeverye shall ask in prayer, beleiving, you shall receive." Buddha taughtthe importance of the mental atti-tude, stating, "Good thoughts willproduce good actions, and badthoughts will produce bad actions."Lao Tze taught, "The Sage attendsto the inner and not to the outer."

All of these teachings point out

    FEAR OF FAILURE

    By Andre

    3

the uselessnessof endeavoring touse mental lawsfrom a skeptical, experimental standspoint, just "to

see if they will work." We mustfirst of all satisfy ourselves that

the Law is logical, natural, prac-tical, and workable. Then one canset it into operation with supremeconfidence and inevitably it willget results.

After all,the fundamental lawsthe occultist is taught to use indemonstrating his success are notsomething new and untried. Theyhave been known for ages, but thegreat majority of mankind has lostsight of them in their haste tosecure their ends through more

tangible, concrete ways. They havepreferred to rely upon what ismiscalled their own "ability," butindividual ability is,in the fi-nal analysis, only the measure bywhich the powers within are util-ized. It doesn’t matter whetherthis is done consciously or un-consciously.

We accept with perfect faith, that is, without doubt as to theresults to be obtained, innumer-able modern aids to more comfort-able living. We go to the lightswitch on the wall of our room, for example, and without hesita-tion, or without any doubt as tothe results, turn it and there islight. If we were to pause be-fore turning on the light switch, debating as to whether it wouldresult in light or whether it wouldnot, we would, during the courseof that time,be remaining in dark-ness. Now the Laws of successare just as certain as any otherlaws that manifest in the Universebut that which holds their resultsback from us is our hesitation, our doubt as to whether or notthey will work.

Until the fear of failure isremoved completely from our con-sciousness we cannot expect to

THE POWER NAMES OF THE 119th PSALM(Continued))nLinu

    LAMED

The mighty rubric of Justice 1 This section of the 119th Psalmdynamically sets forth the everlasting power and justice of the Lawsof God. Whatever circumstance may arise, whatever test or problem,

the use of Lamed will act to mediate and adjust the issues involvedin justice and harmony to all concerned. If we can lift our conscious-ness to the truth of this tremendous assertion, nothing can prevailunjustly over us. The entanglements into which our human naturesmay have drawn us, can be straightened out when the power of thisrubric is repeated. Use it both for yourself and to assist the needsof others, for individuals and for groups, its potency is unlimited.

The modern version of Lamed would be as follows:uThy Laws, Jehovah, are immutable and unchangeable, unaffected

by time or by people. Thy Laws have been established throughout theearth. They operate now according to their nature and all thingsobey their actions. Without knowledge and accordance with Thy Law,

I would be overwhelmed with difficulty. I will ever remember Thy pre-cepts, for through them Divine Power flows to me. I am One with ThyLaws. They restore me to harmony because I have invoked their actionsin my life. When errors arise I remember Thy presence and am led tothe perfection of Thy truth which is allgood and allperfect.

One of the most beautiful of the Psalms is this rubric of Mem whichdeclares one’s constant attunement with God and Love of His Laws. When things seem to be going wrong generally, when you are perhaps dis-contented or the tranquility you desire is lacking in your life, whenthere is something which perhaps you cannot definitely analyze, butfeel is not quite right, then use this rubric to restore the even tenorof your days, to bring you inner peace and outer wellbeing. Rememberthat in using this rubric or any of the others your aim is to attuneyourself with certain vibrations of the creative process, or DivineSource of all things. By repetition with feeling, you can accomplishthis. It cannot be done by cold, parrotlike repetition. You mustthrow the fire of your whole being into your words, "0, howl love Thylaw,” and you must hold that attitude throughout.

To express this rubric in the words of today:

”0, how I love Thy Lawl It is my constant companion and guide.Thy wisdom gives me power over all error, within and without. Withawareness of the Divine Presence permeating my consciousness, there isno limit to my understanding. Formal knowledge and the wisdom of ageis included and surpassed in awareness of Thy Law. My path has beenturned from error in observing Thy Law. I follow Thy guidance as setforth in my life. How sweet are Thy Truths to my awakened conscious-ness, sweeter indeed than any material things. Only through Thy Lawscan understanding come to me. All else shall be removed from my con-sciousness. ”

Jachin The right hand pillar ofSolomon’s Temple and in Caballisticwork associated with the righthand pillar of the Tree of Life.It is the Pillar of Light.

    Jiva A Sanskrit word equivalent

to the .more frequently used term’’Monad”. It refers to life apartfrom any attributes or qualitiesthat a living being may have orpossess. It is the Divine Spir-itual Essence.

Kama A Sanskrit word meaningdesire. A driving,, impellingforce of llvlng~ impuls^s considered in their energetic aspect. It is used to form several com-pound words. Thus KamaLoka meansthe desire world, the astral plane.KamaRupa means the desire bodyor the vehicle of the astral world.

Kundallnl A Sanskrit word whichin its essential meaning could beinterpreted in English as "thespiral” or "coiling” action ofenergy. It signifies a reconditepower in the human constitution. The allegory of Kundalini which ofcourse but symbolizes this univer-

sal power latent in man, tells ofthe goddess, Kundalini, who de-scended from heaven and remainscoiled in the material universeuntil the time of her releasewhen she will rise to the God-head again. Kundalini or theSerpent Fire is depicted as lyingat the base of the spine; and itsascent into heaven, as the riseof this force up the spinal col-umn to the psychic center, thebrain. The awakening of Kunda-

lini is a delicate and dangerousprocess and should never beforced. There are two aspects orphases of Kundalini, the negativeand positive,Ida and Pingala, andin the center is the balanced forceof Sushumna.

Lords The Hierarchies of Powerwho aided in the creation of theUniverse and in the evolution ofconsciousness. The Life Wave ofHumanity itself is ofttimes in-cluded in the Hierarchy of Lordsas the Lords of Humanity, for they

too play their part in the processof evolving consciousness. Inthe order in which they set forth intheir work they are known as theLords of Flame, of Form and ofMind. We also speak of the Lordsof Karma as the Hierarchies workingtoward the balancing of Karmicforces.

    A woman m s tell-ing me her opin-ion of a mutualacquaintance.

nI can’t standhim,” she insisted."He always has awhiskey breath, and he is drunk

most of the time.11Her indictment continued at

some length, and it was most se-vere. Yet she was not at alldescribing the man as I knew him.To me he is a true friend, generous, kind and forgiving. Never haveI heard him speak a word againstanother Of ten has he aided somerone in distress at a considerablepersonal sacrifice. But to thewoman who disliked him he is the

embodiment of all evil.Gently, yet firmly, I defendedhim.

"You know," I told her, "thatpeople are on this earth in allthe many stages of development. No one is perfect, and no one isentirely evil. All of us arestriving subconsciously for per-fection, and the subconsciousSelf has a marvelous method forshowing us our own weaknesses.Whatever we dislike in another

usually is something we have deepwithin ourselves. The best wayto determine the things we shouldovercome is to observe what we hate. "

That didn’t register at all.The lady insisted that she hatesintemperance, and never hastouched a drop of liquor in herlife. Nor could I point out thefact that excessive use of in-toxicating beverages is only oneform of intemperance, and per-haps a mild form at that. In

fact, the woman is more intemp-erate than the man she condemned. She drinks strong, black coffeein huge quantities, puts manyspoor:ful of sugar in nearly ev-erything she eats, and is mostintemperate in her ideas andemotions. She is a crusader for

"the right"; andthis takes theform of demandinglaws that areto regulate theconduct of othersaccording to herideas. She wouldprohibit the useof intoxicating

liquors and throw everyone intojail who disobeys, but she wouldbe the first to violate a law pro-hibiting the use of such things ascoffee or candy.

"After all," I told her, "in-temperance is merely the abuse ofprivileges. Until everyone is per-fect, we must learn to respect andlove other people no matter whatthey do, just as we would respect

and love a crippled brother or sister.Until we can do that, it is dif-ficult to cultivate a feeling oftolerance, although no one wants tobe tolerated.

"This man is carrying out hisdestiny in his own way,and who cansay that he is not doing well. Ifyou could see his long, long pastyou know what traits and weaknesseshe has overcome, perhaps you wouldpraise him for what he is doing now.He is evolving along the path that

he has chosen, and that is the rightpath for him. He is having exper-iences that are different from yours, just as has everyone else, and thatis why we evolve as individuals. Each one eventually returns to theGreat All with different knowledge, different experiences and a differ-ent message. We learn from eachother, and the composite knowledgeof all people is the knowledge ofGod. The man you do not like isevolving in his own way, on his

chosen path, and he has the right todo that because he has independentwill."

"Well, that is true," she ac-knowledged, "but I hope he doesn’thave to evolve too near me."

And that was the woman’s lastword.

MHSH, 545, gives us Mem, thewater or primal substance. Heh,the window or opening thru whichits light or knowledge is avail-able. Shin, the tooth or fang of

active manifestation of the prim-al truth. The Tarot corresponden-ces are the Hanged Man, he who isthe reverse of ordinary man inthe depth of thinking and methodof conduct. The Emperor, he whosets things in order and circum-scribes actions and the judgmentof a completed personal conscious-ness. Thus we see that Moses wasone sent to deliver a great teach-ing and to mould and circumscribea racial consciousness. The letter

Heh which appears in MHSH also ap-pears tv/ice in the Tetragrammaton. The first Heh being attributed toBinah, abstract form, and the sec-ond Heh to Malkuth, material form.Mem refers to water and Shin tofire. So thru MHSH we see theaction of the fire of spirit uponthe water of primal mind and thruthe medium of this great teacherabstracts truths are caused to be-come material truths that a peoplecan put into concrete action.

"Since a great part of hisactivity takes place in Egypt wefind a great deal hidden in this.Egypt as far as Moses is concernedmeans the higher spiritual qualities. In regards to the Israelites we musttake Egypt as meaning the physicaland lower desires. Moses being theTeacher realizes the bondage ofEgypt, $or the lower desires andimprisonment of the flesh that areretarding his people. He endeavors

to develop a new racial type,to em-body and live the higher truths. Thus it is that he slays the Egyp-tian overseer or conquers and sub-dues the exacting demands by whichthe lower nature enslaves the high-er self. Pharaoh represents theRuach that subtle enemy of man. That which man calls reason and the

application of which caused thewords of Moses to be rejected untilthe miracles of Aaron finally bringsrealization of the truths expoundedby Moses. The three days journeyto worship the Lord symbolizes thethree stages of purification ofthe physical, desire and mentalbodies which must be accomplished

before the Lord,or Union with theHigher Self may be had.(To be continued in the nestissu^
