IN THIS ISSUE NOVEMBER 2013

On the coverP04 BIG GRAPHENE. Graphene Frontiers’ innovative production

method is bringing graphene technology to consumers. Paige Boehmcke from Graphene Frontiers discusses the company’s roll-to-roll production method.

P07 NANO BIO CLEAN. In fertilisers and bio cleaners nano-sized emulsions o"er inherent advantages over conventional chemicals in reduced application rate, more rapid and reliable activation and extended long-term a"ect. Green Earth Nano Science Inc. outlines the use of colloidal chemistry in their range of products.

FeaturesP09 AUTONANO COATINGS. Nanomaterials incorporated into

hybrid coatings have been widely adopted in the automotive industry. Nanocoating allows for new coloration e"ects and greater hardness and durability, self-healing, self-cleaning, thermal barrier, conductivity and anti-!ngerprint properties. We pro!le the leading companies.

P16 GRAPHENE IN CHINA. A look at graphene production in China with Johnson Fung from Xiamen Knano Graphene Technology.

WElcome to issue twenty of Nanotech magazine, following on from our special issue on nano-

coatings. Now approaching it’s third year, the magazine is brought to you by Future Markets (www.futuremarketsinc.com), the world’s lead-ing provider of nanotechnology and nanomate-rials market information.

Focus in this month’s issue is again on graphene, as we look at production methods and initiatives in the United

States and China. In terms of environmental and food applications, activists remain grossly ill-informed of the use of some nanoscale materials. This lack of basic understanding and poorly considered scare-mongering can have serious rami!cations. In a 2012 study by the Department of Industry, Innovation, Science, Research and Tertiary Education (DIISRTE) in

Australia, it was found that one in four Austral-ians who had heard stories about the risks of nanoparticle-based sunscreens felt it was safer to use no sunscreen at all. We look at applica-tions of nanoemulsions in bioagri applications and how rather than posing public danger, are helping to make more e#cient products from natural ingredients (from plant extracts etc.) via working on nanoscale levels.

Wealso continue the coatings focus from the previous issue by looking at some of

the main product developers of anti-corrosion, water-repellant, anti-scratch, anti-!ngerprint and easy-clean nanocoatings in this multi-billion dollar market.
