LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT & CEO

CHANGE IS HERE

JIM KAITZ, PRESIDENT & CEO

Dear AFP Members,

This is one of my favorite times of the year, as I know it is for many of you reading this.

Fall is when AFP holds its Annual Conference, where thousands of treasury and finance professionals gather for the most important event in the profession.

Every AFP Annual is exciting, but AFP 2017 holds the potential for even more “buzz”—and perhaps a little apprehension.

That’s because AFP 2017 is where treasury and finance will begin to come to grips with the technological changes that will surely disrupt our profession, our organizations and our skill requirements in the years ahead.

Call it what you will. Blockchain. Artificial intelligence. Machine learning. A tsunami, even. However you define it, we know that the coming wave of new technology will continually impact the treasury and finance profession. Many of our daily tasks will be eliminated, leaving us vulnerable.

AFP 2017 is the place where attendees can begin to meet these challenges.

Start with AFP MindShift. A new conference offering, MindShift signifies a session, speaker or event that challenges the status quo, especially the way technology impacts the way we will work in years to come. The featured speaker for MindShift is Don Tapscott, co-author of “Blockchain Revolution.” You’ll also find a slew of educational sessions and exhibitors with the MindShift designation throughout AFP 2017.

Many of the AFP 2017 featured speakers will touch on the technology revolution as well, including data visualization artist Jer Thorp; Julia Kirby (co-author, “Only Humans Need Apply: Winners and Losers in the Age of Smart Machines”); Robert Tercek (author, “Vaporized: Solid Strategies for Success in a Dematerialized World”); ExO Works Chair Salim Ismail; and even Sean Rodriguez, CCM, Senior Vice President and Faster Payments Strategy Leader, Federal Reserve System.

If you are unable to attend AFP 2017, AFP MindShift also meets twice yearly with outside expert facilitators to guide the discussion. What’s more, AFP’s education and training is available year-round to help treasury and finance professionals navigate the new environment by equipping them with newer and better skills.

Technology forecaster Paul Saffo once said “Never mistake a clear view for a short distance.” Disruptive change may not happen today, but we know it will. That’s why we need to prepare today.

Sincerely,

Jim KaitzPresident and CEO
