Dear Parents and Community Members,

This week, the staff has received training in navigating the NAPLAN data website in

preparation for end of year report writing and planning for 2017.

We have reviewed some of our lockdown procedures and are investigating the cost of a

whole new bell system (very expensive!).

Several staff members completed Non-violent Crisis Intervention course that has been

run over several weeks.

Stage 3 teachers continue to liaise with both high schools to ensure that our Year 6

students will be well supported when they transition to Year 7.

Students:

Health Harold came to visit this morning. What excitement in the playground! The Life

Education Van will be at Alma from Monday to Thursday next week. All students will

go to the van to participate in healthy lifestyle lessons that align with the Health/PE/

Personal Development syllabus. The school and P&C are subsidising the visit so there is

no cost to parents. Children will have an opportunity to buy Healthy Harold

merchandise. - A price list will be made available when the van arrives.

Unfortunately - and in spite of repeated reminders – many children are not wearing their

school hats when they are outside. It is compulsory. Children without hats will not be

allowed on the oval or on the basketball court. We keep a few spare hats at the office for

emergencies but a large number have been borrowed and not returned. Please ensure

your child has a school hat, clearly labelled. Replacements can be bought at the front

office.

The last of our Kinder Orientation sessions is on Wednesday.

This Thursday, we have a visiting performance called “Australian Folklore”. All

students will attend – the school is subsiding the costs. This presentation has a language

and history focus and is suitable for Kinder to Year 6.

On Friday, K-2 will be attending the Teddy Bears’ Picnic. Don’t forget your teddy bears

and your picnic lunch!

On Friday, Mr Small is facilitating our school’s Remembrance Day service at 10.50 am.

The School Captains will play an important role and classes are making wreaths to lay.

You are all cordially invited to join us for this short but important activity.

Have a great week,

Regards

3-4J 3-4J have been

developing a learners toolkit that gives us the skills to become successful learners, confident

individuals and responsible

citizens. Pictured above and below are pictures of the 3-4J

Learning Wall.

at Alma!

3-4A In 3/4A we are using Ethicon to look at the

whole picture when we are learning. We are

thinking on how we can be responsible at

school and outside of school. When were are at school we are open

minded and always thinking of others.

3-4B 3-4B have been using Innovatrix’s resourceful

thinking strategies to plan a performance as well as design and make some props and costumes

for our Week 4 assembly item last week.

There has been an outbreak of head lice at the school. Head

lice are very common so there is no need to be alarmed,

however they should be treated quickly to prevent them from

spreading:

We are asking that all parents examine their child’s hair and

look for the following signs:

Persistent scratching, particularly behind the ears and the

nape of the neck accompanied by a red rash,

Tiny silver white eggs at the base of the hair shaft,

Small pale brown lice. You may wish to use a

magnifying glass and fine toothed comb under strong light to

help identify lice.

As a precaution any items which may harbour lice such as bed

linen, towels, hats and combs should be washed in hot soapy

water. To prevent head lice in the future, all family members

should avoid sharing items such as clothing,

brushes or hats from each other or from friends.

Please check your child’s hair to help stop the cycle

of infestation.
