People of the Middle AgesThe Middle Ages was a very marvelous time period. There was the king who ruled the lands with the queen by his side. The queen was the most powerful women. Every other women had barely any rights. Then there were the heralds. They were originally messengers who wore the colors of the lord. Over a period of time they started to announce contests and jousts. Also there was the knights who were armored horse soldiers of the Middle Ages. Just because it was a violent time period doesn’t mean that the Middle Ages didn’t have any humor. The jesters provided that. They basically acted like fools and were a lot like today’s clown.

Castles in the Middle Ages

Castles were a very important thing in the Medieval Era.

Sometimes, they were even the size of a town in the 21st century!

There were many reasons for the ways castles were designed.

Sometimes there were murals or paintings on the side of a castle wall.

The architects did that to remember important events in that time

during the Middle Ages. Other than that there were many, many other

parts to a castle. The people in that time were very clever. They used

trickery when building the castle. There were murder and arrow holes.

If anyone tried to brake into to the “holes in the castle” which were the

murder holes, well I’m guessing you can figure out what happened

which is why they’re called murder holes. It’s a little bit different thing

with arrow holes. People inside the castle could shoot through the

holes to enemies below. There was an outer bailey which was the first

courtyard that was inside the outer walls of the castle. Of course, if

there’s an outer bailey there's most likely going to be an inner bailey.

That was the inner courtyard of a castle which was protected by two

walls. Then there was the draw bridge which was mostly put above a

moat. If you are wondering what a moat is, it is a ditch around the

castle that was usually filled with water. The postern gate was the back

gate which was meant to be a secret but most times was not. As you

can see there is an endless list to the amount of things that a castle

had in the Dark Ages.

The Armor of the Dark Ages

The Middle Ages were one of the most violent time periods in history. Kings would have jousts where you had to knock the other person off his horse. They would do that for entrainment! Luckily they knew what safety was. The people who competed in those types of competitive events had some heavy ,bulky armor. The most important piece to armor was the helmet. It protected the user's face and head. The neck is essential to your body too so there was a gorget that protected the throat. In the helmet there was also a visor so when you were out of battle you could lift it and then you could see better. There was also a cuirass which was a breast plate. The last important piece was the greave which was the part of the armor which protected the leg to he ankle to the knee.
