• The colour motif used for this college genre magazine
is black, yellow, and white. Black and yellow used
together often connote a rich/expensive look. The white
however signifies a more pure and fresh look, giving
more light to the main cover image.
• The main subjects dress connotes a wealthy lifestyle
which is aspirational to the audience of young college
students who want a successful career after their
education.
• The subject’s pose and facial expressing connote
enjoyment and happiness, which is also linked to the
wealthy lifestyle that students aspire to.
• The subject is in the centre third signifying his
importance and success. The college also consider
their branding strong because the subject is super
imposed over the main cover line of the magazine.
• The overall idea behind the colour and dress is to pull
out stereotypes of a rich and wealthy company brand
and bring them into the college genre of magazines.
This creates unconventionality which interests new
consumers who aspire this kind of lifestyle.

this genre of magazine.
• Very smooth image quality, bold, feathered around
subject to appear neater.
• Very high hey lighting with minimal shadow. This
signifies a fresh and youthful look, appealing to an
audience of students.
• Font used is entirely a sans serif type font, using yellow
and white to break up the various subjects. Bold type
occasionally highlights specific terms or possible page
titles which draws the focus of the reader. This is a
common conventional method used with cover lines.
The font size also varies depending on the signified
importance of the type.
• The puff used is a different colour from the rest of the
colour motif because it juxtaposes against the black.

• The puff used contains the word ‘splat’ which is an
onomatopoeia that connotes a sound to the consumer.
This is intended and links to the pink ‘paint mark’ and
the cover line ‘let’s go paintballing’ which is a
stereotypical and common activity for a college student,
therefore appeals to the intended audience.
• Yellow is used with cover lines such as ‘MAKE MONEY
ON CAMPUS’ and ‘THANK GOD IT’S FRIDAY’
because yellow connotes vibrancy and excitement, as
well as the sentences which would also signify
excitement to a young college student (target
audience). It’s also used for the main cover line for the
same effect.
• Product placement is used with the brand placement of
‘BLACKBERRY’ whose target audience are wealthy
businessmen type people which once again links to the
aspirations of the target audience. The intended
reading of this is likely to create the line of appeal of
wealth.
