Osceola County, FL - On Thursday, March 8th, Kissimmee Police Department held a Texting While Driving simulation event at Osceola High School.

The event consisted of a simulated car accident to create awareness among the students of the risks and dangers involved in sending text messages on their mobile phones while driving.

A reenactment of a car accident, which took place in the school stadium, was created during the event. Actors had bloody makeup applied by the makeup team of the Joe Blasco Makeup artist training center. The presentation began with audio

of a crash accident happening, then a tarp was removed from the recreated crash scene and a 911 call

St. Cloud, FL - Mme. Brigitte Pinauldt, Deputy Mayor of St. Cloud, France was the special guest of the St. Cloud Life Expo and Community Extravaganza. The international theme of this year’s Expo occasioned the St. Cloud Chamber to invite Mme. Pinauldt who represented the French sister city and the city after which St. Cloud, Florida was named.On Friday, March 2nd the Deputy Mayor visited both

St. Cloud and Harmony High Schools. St. Cloud Principal Nate Fancher and Harmony Principal Buddy Butler have extended an enthusiastic welcome to their school. St. Cloud French teacher Ms. Kubicki was the host for the Deputy Mayor for a morning visit. Ms

Jeanie Clark, Harmony French teacher coordinates an exchange program which has had students visit St. Cloud, France. She was the host for Mme. Pinauldt for lunch and introduced her at a student assembly.The Expo had many exciting components, such as

Taste of St. Cloud, Wing War, Beer Festival, Home Depot Kid’s Workshop, St. Cloud Idol finals and entertainment with an international flair, the visit of St. Cloud, France’s Deputy Mayor made this year unique. Mme. Pinauldt oversees programs for small children, education and youth in her home city.Mme. Pinauldt started her Saturday with a private

visit to the Vendor Breakfast before it its first opening.

She assisted in the ribbon cutting at 9:55 and the opening of doors at 10 a.m. At 11 a.m. she spoke to the public at the stage in Building B. After a luncheon visit to a local restaurant with St. Cloud Mayor Rebecca Borders, Mme. Pinauldt came back to building A and received a key to the city from Mayor Borders and spoke to the public. The Key to the City is presented to distinguished visitors and residents who the City of St. Cloud wishes to pay tribute. Harmony High school teacher Jeanie Clark introduced exchange students who have participated in the 10 year program. At 5 p.m. Mme. Pinauldt joined Kayla DeCoff, 2011 Miss St. Cloud, for the crowning of the new 2012 Miss St. Cloud.

will be used for a general store. The Neo-Traditional architectural style will keep with the rest of the Harmony development and will feature cement-siding, stone, brick, stucco, woods and metals.“It is amazing what the private sector

will do when government gets out of the way. This truly happened and is due to the suspension of impact fees

in the county,” said Commissioner Fred Hawkins Jr., whose district includes Harmony.Tenant mix will comprise of small

town shops reminiscent of small towns all across the USA – pizza, ice cream, coffee, dry cleaner and others, Harmony officials said. Anticipated completion is the end of 2012.Common use restrooms with outside

access will provide additional restroom service for Harmony’s Dark Sky Festival and other annual festivities. Clancy and They’s Construction is the contractor on the project.

Two federal tax credits may help you offset the costs of higher education for yourself or your dependents. These are the American Opportunity Credit and the Lifetime Learning Credit.To qualify for either credit, you must

pay postsecondary tuition and fees for yourself, your spouse or your dependent. The credit may be claimed by either the parent or the student, but not both. If the student was claimed as a dependent, the student cannot file for the credit.For each student, you may claim

only one of the credits in a single tax year. You cannot claim the American Opportunity Credit to pay for part of your daughter’s tuition charges and then claim the Lifetime Learning Credit for $2,000 more of her school costs.However, if you pay college expenses

for two or more students in the same year, you can choose to take credits on a per-student, per-year basis. You can claim the American Opportunity Credit for your sophomore daughter and the Lifetime Learning Credit for your spouse’s graduate school tuition.Here are some key facts the IRS

wants you to know about these valuable education credits:The American Opportunity Credit: The

credit can be up to $2,500 per eligible student; It is available for the first four years of postsecondary education; Forty percent of the credit is refundable, which means that you may be able to receive up to $1,000, even if you owe no taxes; The student must be pursuing an undergraduate degree or other recognized educational credential; The student must be enrolled at least half

time for at least one academic period; Qualified expenses include tuition and fees, coursed related books supplies and equipment; and The full credit is generally available to eligible taxpayers whose modified adjusted gross income is less than $80,000 or $160,000 for married couples filing a joint return.Lifetime Learning Credit: The credit can

be up to $2,000 per eligible student; It is available for all years of postsecondary education and for courses to acquire or improve job skills; The maximum credited is limited to the amount of tax you must pay on your return; The student does not need to be pursuing a degree or other recognized education credential; Qualified expenses include tuition and fees, course related books, supplies and equipment; and The full credit is generally available to eligible taxpayers whose modified adjusted gross income is less than $60,000 or $120,000 for married couples filing a joint return.If you don’t qualify for these education

credits, you may qualify for the tuition and fees deduction, which can reduce the amount of your income subject to tax by up to $4,000. However, you cannot claim the tuition and fees tax deduction in the same year that you claim the American Opportunity Tax Credit or the Lifetime Learning Credit. You must choose to either take the credit or the deduction and should consider which is more beneficial for you.For more information about these

Tallahassee, FL – Governor Rick Scott announced Publix Super Markets plans to create a one-million-square-foot distribution center in Orlando with a $188.5 million capital investment. Plans also call for staffing 156 new jobs during the center’s first three years of operation. “It is always good news for Florida

when a company expands and increases its investment here,” said Governor Rick Scott. “Publix has a well-known history as one of Florida’s leading corporate citizens and contributors to our economic growth.” Publix is working to make the

new refrigerated distribution center operational by fourth quarter 2014, according to Richard Schuler, Publix’s vice president of distribution.

Osceola County, FL – Osceola County Sheriff’s detectives have confirmed the identity of the victim in yesterday’s homicide is Angel M. Pagan, age 50. The last known address for Pagan was Orlando. Cyrils Drive remains closed but is expected to re-open late this afternoon. This is an on-going investigation. There are no further updates as this time, but additional information will be provided as it becomes available. Anyone with information is asked to call

the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office at (407) 348-2222 or Crimeline at (800) 423-TIPS (8477). Calls made to Crimeline remain anonymous, and tips that lead to the felony arrest of suspects and/or the recovery of stolen property and drugs are eligible for cash rewards of up to $5,000 dollars.Background: On March 1 at approximately

3:49 a.m., deputies patrolling the area near Cyrils Drive and Zuni Road discovered a white male deceased in the ditch. Detectives are currently investigating this incident as a homicide.

Osceola County, FL – Osceola County Sheriff’s detectives arrested Eduardo Andres Sanchez and charged him with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. The investigation began on February 28 when deputies responded to a domestic disturbance at a residence on Smoke Signal Circle in the Indian Wells subdivision. Upon arrival, they spoke with two victims who indicated Sanchez became involved in a verbal altercation

with the victims. According to the victims he pulled out a handgun and shot at a vehicle one of the victims was sitting in. The other victim pushed Sanchez into the residence before both victims left to call law enforcement. When deputies arrived, the victims told deputies Sanchez was in the residence armed with a handgun. As a precaution, several homes near the residence were evacuated and several streets in the area were closed. The SWAT team and

additional deputies were called to assist with a possible barricaded subject. After several hours with deputies receiving no response, a search warrant was obtained to gain entry into the residence. When deputies entered the home, Sanchez was not there. Deputies obtained a warrant for his arrest. On February 29, deputies located Sanchez. He was booked into the Osceola County Jail. Kissimmee, FL – A routine traffic stop lands an Orlando man in jail and has taken several grams of marijuana off the streets.On February 28, 2012 at approximately 11:00

p.m., a Kissimmee police officer noticed a black Honda traveling southbound on Michigan Avenue with high beams on. As the officer got behind the vehicle, she noticed the taillights on the car were tinted a dark color. While talking with the driver, identified as 21-year-old Joshua Mejias Borgen during the traffic stop, the officer smelled a strong odor of marijuana. While searching the vehicle, the officer found a

small amount of marijuana under the driver’s seat. The officer placed Mejias Borgen under arrest for possession of marijuana. During the search incident to arrest, the officer found bundles of money totaling

Under the direction of Orlando Ballet Artistic Director, Robert Hill, and La Nouba Artistic Director, Daniel Ross, the two companies will present A Choreographers’ Showcase, a Project Designed to Stimulate and Encourage Artistic Growth at the La Nouba theatre in Downtown Disney on March 12, 2012, at 6:00 pm.The performance promises to be a unique

presentation, blending talent from both companies, departing from the traditional Cirque du Soleil and Orlando Ballet performances. It is intentionally designed to showcase raw creative expression from the dancers, performers and technicians; a conundrum of creative ideas, rather than a finished production. A Choreographer’s Showcase is born out

of Cirque du Soleil’s commitment to the artistic community and support for artists and artistic institutions. The project began with the Nevada Ballet Theatre five years ago. Condado Osceola, FL – El Sheriff Bob Hansell auspició el Día de Apreciación a la Comunidad de la Oficina del Sheriff del Condado Osceola y Casa Abierta el sábado 3 de marzo de 2012. A special exhibition by Osceola County Fire Department took place. Activities such as moon walks and face painting were available for children. Tours of the Osceola County Emergency Operations

Center and Osceola County Sheriff’s Office C o m m u n i c a t i o n s Center were also given. This event was

free and open to the public.

approaching and it seems the only thing anyone is talking about is Dwight Howard being traded. The one thing no one seems to be talking about in the national media is how well the Magic are playing.Since the beginning of February the Orlando Magic have only

Their strong play is enough to make the Orlando front office believe that they still have a shot at keeping Dwight. They are trying to make a move to bring in another big name to go along with Dwight but are having very little luck. Outside of Howard, Orlando doesn’t have a lot of pieces that people are interested in. Their best non-Howard trade asset would have to be Ryan Anderson, who they would rather not give up. In the next week the rumors will grow and grow and there

should begin to be some player movement throughout the NBA. Fans in Orlando are hoping to continue to see the team that has played so well behind Dwight Howard this season. There should be a lot of clarity about whether or not Howard will be packing his bags in the next 7 days.

Cancer of the prostate is one of the most common types of cancer among American men. Treatment for prostate cancer works best when the disease is found early.

Prostate-specific antigen (PSA) is a protein produced by the cells of the prostate gland. The PSA test measures the level of this protein in the blood. It can be detected at a low level in the blood of all adult men.

A fundamental problem with the PSA test is that, while elevated levels can indicate the presence of cancer, they can also be caused by other benign problems such as infection.

Another major problem with the PSA test is defining what is “abnormal.” Older men usually have higher PSA measurements than younger men.

The American Cancer Society and the American Urological Society

discourage screening for men whose life expectancy is 10 years or less. The cancer is so slow-growing that it can take that long for screening to show a benefit.

The United States Preventive Services Task Force, an independent panel of experts, recently concluded that screening should stop at 75.

PSA test results are usually reported as nanograms of PSA per milliliter (ng/mL) of blood. In the past, most doctors considered PSA values below 4.0 ng/mL as normal. However, recent research found prostate cancer in men with PSA levels below 4.0 ng/mL

Some researchers have suggested lowering the PSA cutoff levels. For example, a number of studies have used cutoff levels of 2.5 or 3.0 ng/mL instead of 4.0 ng/mL.

Many doctors are now using the following ranges with some variation: 0 to 2.5 ng/mL is low, 2.6 to 10 ng/mL is slightly to moderately elevated, 10 to 19.9 ng/mL is moderately elevated, and 20 ng/mL

or more is significantly elevated.

Because age is an important factor in increasing PSA levels, some doctors use age-adjusted PSA levels to determine when diagnostic tests are needed. When age-adjusted PSA levels are used, a different PSA level is defined as normal for each 10-year age group.

Doctors who use age-adjusted levels usually suggest that men younger than age 50 should have a PSA level below 2.4 ng/mL, while a PSA level up to 6.5 ng/mL would be considered normal for men in their 70s. Doctors do not agree about the accuracy and usefulness of age-adjusted PSA levels.

But there’s even more to make you nuts when you’re evaluating your PSA.

PSA is either free or attached to a protein molecule. If you have a benign prostate condition, there is more free PSA. Cancer produces more of the attached form. A free PSA test that indicates prostate cancer can lead to more testing, such as a biopsy.

PSA velocity is the change in PSA levels over time. A sharp rise in the PSA level may indicate a fast-growing cancer.

The relationship of the PSA level to prostate size is PSA density. An elevated PSA in a man with a very large prostate is not as alarming as a high PSA reading in someone with a small prostate.

Another problem with PSA are false test results.

If you have an elevated PSA but no cancer, you get what is called a false positive. This type of result can lead to medical procedures, anxiety, health risks and expense. Most men with an elevated PSA don’t have cancer.

When you have prostate cancer and your PSA test comes back in the normal range, you get a false negative. It’s important to understand that most prostate cancers are slow-growing; they can be around for many years before they cause symptoms.
