SWIM LESSON PROGRAMS

When signing your child up for swim lessons, all you have to do is choose the appropriate age range: Parent/Child (6 months to 3 years) Preschool (3-5 years) School Age (5-12 years)

Then, on the first day of class, the instructor will determine which of the following skill levels in the chart at the bottom of the page your child will begin in. From there, they’ll progress up through the levels at their own pace.

PARENT/CHILD SWIM LESSONS(AGES 6 MONTHS TO 3 YEARS)Close supervision is the best way to prevent drowning. Through this program, parents and caregivers will learn how to supervise children in the water, how to prevent accidents and how to plan for emergencies. This program also promotes water enrichment and aquatic readiness for children ages 6 months to 3 years of age. Levels in this phase include:

A: Swim Starters: Water Discovery Parents accompany children in this class, which introduces babies and parents to the aquatic environment through exploration that encourages them to enjoy themselves while learning about the water:

• To encourage developmentally appropriate expectations by parents of babies enrolled in water enrichment programs

• To introduce and emphasize basic aquatic safety to parents

• To provide a positive parent/child aquatic experience and an opportunity to build the parent/child relationship

• To provide parents and children the opportunity to share common experiences, socialize, and interact with one another

B: Swim Starters: Water Exploration In this class, parents are guided to work with their child to explore body positions, floating, blowing bubbles and fundamental safety and aquatic skills. The general goals of the program are:

• To encourage children to explore their aquatic environment and their own skills with parents’ help

• To introduce basic water skills such as kicking, breath control, and body control or balance

• To encourage children to make purposeful movement in the water and movements in response to visual and verbal cues

• To have fun in the water using toys and floatation devices and interacting with other children

• To emphasize basic aquatic safety to parents

• To provide a positive parent/child aquatic experience and an opportunity to build the parent/child relationship

SWIM LESSON PROGRAMSThis summer, we launched a brand-new swim lesson program. This new child-centered curriculum will help your child swim confidently at his or her own pace. All classes will focus on water safety, having fun while learning, building character and increasing self-confidence. We’ll provide parents with helpful resources and weekly feedback to help them be active participants in their child’s learning process.

• To encourage children to propel themselves and glide through the water

• To develop basic water safety skills in the form of jump, push, turn and grab, and swim-float-swim

Level 3: Water Stamina In this class, children focus on swimming longer distances and are introduced to rotary breathing, integrated rotary breathing and integrated arm and leg action.
