Ampliación de Carretera / Road Widening

Condado Osceola, FL - El Presidente de la Junta de la Comisión del Condado de Osceola Brandon Arrington abrió oficialmente la segunda fase del proyecto de ampliación de la carretera Poinciana Boulevard el martes, 26 de abril de 2011, a las 10:30 a.m. en la esquina sureste de la intersección de Poinciana Boulevard y Trafalgar Boulevard.La longitud del proyecto es de

aproximadamente 2.6 millas e incluye la reconstrucción de la carretera rural existente de 2 carriles a una de 4 carriles urbanos divididos con 4 carriles de 12 pies de ancho, dos carriles de bicicletas de 4 pies, aceras de 5 pies de ancho y la división de carriles dentro de un derecho de paso de 200 pies. El proyecto comenzó el 21 de abril de 2009 y fue completado en febrero de 2011 a un costo de 21 millones de dólares.“Es un gran honor el haber completado

Osceola County, FL – Osceola County Chairman Brandon Arrington officially opened the second phase of the Poinciana Boulevard road widening project on Tuesday, April 26, at the southeast corner of the intersection of Poinciana Boulevard and Trafalgar Boulevard. The length of the project is approximately

2.6 miles and includes the reconstruction of the existing 2-lane rural roadway to a 4-lane urban divided facility with four 12-foot wide lanes, two 4-foot wide bike lanes, 5-foot wide sidewalks and a median within the right-of-way of 200 feet. The project broke ground on April 21, 2009 and was completed in February 2011 at a cost of $21 million. “It is a great honor to be able to complete

this improvement to our community. This project not only makes it safer for the daily commuter but also helps to expand economic opportunities for the area. Kissimmee, FL - The City of Kissimmee is asking the community to participate in the final round of voting for the “Ultimate Fishing Town U.S.A.” contest. The first round of votes put the City of Kissimmee in the Top 20 ultimate fishing locations in the country. Aside from winning the $25,000 prize, which will be used to enhance

the angler experience in Kissimmee, the City wants to secure the title for Lake Toho and the Kissimmee Chain of Lakes. This chain of lakes is the only Central Florida location nominated in this national competition hosted by the World Fishing Network. The competition is based solely on votes, so citizens are asked to vote each day. The public is encouraged to help Central Florida win this prestigious

designation by voting in the morning and again in the afternoon. Easy days to remember are ‘Tackle Box Tuesdays’ and ‘Fishing Fridays.’ It takes less than a minute to cast a vote and each person can vote up to four times each day. Osceola County, FL – Due to current dry weather conditions and the lack of significant rainfall predicted in the foreseeable future, Osceola County Fire Chief Rich Collins has issued a burn ban for unincorporated Osceola County. Osceola County Burn Ban Ordinance #09-12 authorizes Fire Chief Collins to impose the burn ban whenever the Keetch-Byran Drought Index (KBDI) reaches 500 or above. The dry conditions we are experiencing have raised the KBDI above the 500 mark. “Without any appreciable rain in the

past few weeks or any expected in the near future, we have reached drought conditions that may lead to wildland fires in or near the urban interface,” explained Chief Collins.

Citizens living in areas susceptible to wildland fires are urged to visit our community safety website at www.mysafety.osceola.org to learn what steps they can take to protect their homes and property.

“We strongly rely on our community to help us prevent dangerous wildland fires from starting. Their efforts will help protect the lives and property of all citizens and visitors in Osceola County,” added Chief Collins.

Kissimmee, FL – The Honorable Malcom Thompson, Osceola County Clerk of Courts, is proud to announce that his staff came in First Place by collecting over $8,000.00 for the April 29th and 30th Relay for Life event held at St. Cloud High School. Beginning in January, the Clerk’s staff divided themselves into teams and engaged in friendly competition to see which team could raise the most funds to benefit the American Cancer Society. These “fun-raisers” ranged from selling cancer-related novelties to food-related activities to chances to win gift baskets, artwork, gas cards, and gift cards; all donated items. “In these hard economic

times, it is refreshing to

see that Clerk staff can give back such a significant amount to the community,” said Thompson. “I am proud of each and every one of them for their contribution. They easily surpassed their original goal of raising $2,500.00 for this important cause.” Clerk staff volunteered their lunch hours, their time before and after work, and their weekends to plan and execute the various fundraising activities. en México? Esta fecha conmemora la victoria

del Ejército Mexicano sobre tropas francesas en 1862. La batalla tuvo lugar en la ciudad de Puebla el 5 de mayo, por lo cual se le conoce también como la “Batalla de Puebla”. El conflicto entre México y Francia

comenzó en junio de 1861, debido a que el Congreso mexicano, a iniciativa del presi dente Benito Juárez, declaró la suspensión por un lapso de dos años del pago de la deuda internacional. Los países afec tados, España, Inglaterra y Francia, protestaron ante esa medida; sin embargo, Inglaterra y España lograron negociar por la vía diplomática los términos y condiciones en los que se pagaría la deuda posteriormente. Napoleón III, gobernante de Francia, decidió aprovechar la ocasión para invadir México con el apoyo de las elites conservadoras mexicanas para

establecer una monarquía favorable a Europa. En abril de 1862 los franceses

desembarcaron en Veracruz, y emprendieron la campaña militar hacia el centro de la Repú blica. La primera batalla importante tuvo lugar en Acultzingo, en el límite de los Estados de Veracruz y Puebla. El héroe de la batalla de Puebla

fue el general Ignacio Zaragoza. El informe que el general Zaragoza rindió sobre la Batalla de Puebla al Presidente Benito Juárez fue breve y significativo. “Las armas nacionales se han cubierto

Summit on Puerto Rican Affairs II

Orlando, FL - In celebration of 5 de Mayo festivities which represent the triumph of the Battle of Puebla over the invasion of the French army into Mexico in 1862, the Mexican Consulate in Orlando held a Jazz and Marimba concert in the Mad Cow Theatre with the Javier Nandayapa Trio on Wednesday, May 4 at 7:00 p.m.

The trio is known in the contemporary genre as “world music”, known internationally for their characteristic combination of the marimba sound of Chiapas with Jazz and Blues for more than 10 years. Their repertoire includes everything from minimalist to impressionist and Mexican contemporary and folk music.On Thursday, May 5 at 5:00 p.m. there

was a brief presentation of the same Trio to celebrate the patriotic date in the rotunda of Orlando City Hall. The event was organized in colaboration with Casa

De Mexico and City of Orlando and was free and open to the public and offered Mexican orderves. Why do we celebrate Cinco De Mayo?This date comemorates the victory of the

Mexican Army over the French in 1862. The battle took place in the city of Puebla on May 5th which is why the holiday is also known as “Battle of Puebla.”The conflict between Mexico and

France began in June of 1861 due to the Mexican Congress, led by Benito Juarez, declaring the suspension of payment of the international debt for two years. The affected countries, Spain, England and France protested the action, however, Spain and England were able to negotiate, via diplomatic procedures, the terms and conditions in which the debt would be paid. Napoleon III, leader of France, decided to take advantage of the occasion to invade Mexico with the support of the elite conservative groups of Mexico in order to establish a Monarchy favorable to Europe. In April of 1862 the French landed on

the coast of Veracruz and began the military campaign toward the center of the nation. The first major battle took place in Acultzingo, on the border of the states of Veracruz and Puebla. The hero of the battle of Puebla was General Ignacio Zaragoza. The report General Zaragoza gave for the Battle of Puebla to President Benito Juarez was brief and significant. “The national arms are covered in glory.

St. Cloud, FL – St. Cloud Fire Rescue presenta un Bike Rodeo (Rodeo de Bicicletas) el miércoles, 25 de mayo, desde las 4 p.m. hasta las 8 p.m., en Fire Station #31 (900 Minnesota Ave.). El propósito del Rodeo de Bicicletas es el de ayudar a los niños a aprender técnicas de seguridad durante el uso de sus bicicletas. Los niños cruzarán por una pista de bicicleta dedicada al reconocimiento de las señales en las carreteras y aprenderán las técnicas apropiadas del cede a automóviles, la estabilidad de la bicicleta, la medida apropiada para el casco de seguridad, y otros consejos de seguridad durante el uso de bicicletas.

St. Cloud, FL – St. Cloud Fire Rescue will be hosting a Bike Rodeo Wednesday, May 25, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Fire Station #31 (900 Minnesota Ave.). The purpose of the Bike Rodeo is to help children learn bicycling safety techniques. Children will go through a bicycle course geared

toward recognition of street signs and will learn the proper techniques in yielding to cars, bicycle stability, proper helmet sizing, and other bicycle safety tips. “Children in grades kindergarten

through fifth may attend the Bike Rodeo,” said Fire Rescue Emergency

Medical Services Chief Lisa Thompson. “Children will be able to get their bicycles inspected and learn safety techniques while riding their bicycles through a bicycle course. All children must bring their bike and be accompanied by a parent or guardian.”

Osceola Escuelas / Schools

Over 3,000 kindergarten students from all elementary schools in Osceola County will be participating in the Learn to Swim program as part of the physical education curriculum from May 2 through June 3. Some students walk and others are bussed from their schools to the YMCA, Bob Makinson Aquatic Center, Chris Lyle Aquatic Center, Harmony Community Pool, Celebration Community Pool, Doral Woods Community Pool, Alhambra Community Pool, and Paradise Palms Resort Pool for five days of instruction in water safety and swim skills.This crucial life-saving program has been offered

to kindergarten and first grade students in Osceola schools for over 25 years. Osceola County is unique in that this comprehensive swim program is part of the physical education curriculum, and is offered to all students at no charge to parents. Physical education and regular education teachers are trained as Water Safety Instructors and work with kindergarten and first grade teachers, parent volunteers, and community partners in the delivery of lessons in the water. Kindergarten students will be tested and receive instruction according to their level of skill at this time then when they return next year

as first graders. In the fall, they will participate in five days of lessons again to build on skills learned and progress sequentially through the curriculum. Many lives have been saved through the knowledge

and skills that students have learned through this valuable program. Kissimmee, FL – Two local men were arrested on Sunday and charged with several counts of grand theft auto and conspiracy to commit grand theft auto.On Sunday, May 8, 2011 Kissimmee Police

officers observed Parking Enforcement Management (PEM) towing vehicles from Mega Pawn, located at 4006 West Vine Street in Kissimmee. Officers contacted the owner of Mega Pawn, David Larson, about the activity. Larson explained to officers that PEM was not authorized to tow cars from the lot and at the conclusion of business on May 7, 2011 there were not towing signs posted on his property. Larson explained that he had agreed to allow Red Lobster employees to use his lot to park on Mothers’ Day, Sunday, May 8, 2011.Officers learned that Emilio Disla

(D.O.B.6/14/79), manager of PEM, instructed his employees to post a tow away sign in the entrance of Mega Pawn

after vehicles were already parked in the lot. Disla then instructed his driver, Edwin Pena (11/1/80), to start towing vehicles back to their shop. Pena and Disla were able to tow four (4) vehicles prior to the police arriving at the scene. Disla and Pena were charged with several

counts of grand theft auto and several counts of conspiracy to commit grand theft auto and were transported to the Osceola County Jail. The Kissimmee Police Department has

received numerous complaint calls about PEM’s towing practices and complaints of verbal assault threats by employees of PEM. Osceola County, FL - May 9 at approximately 6:13 a.m., Osceola County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the Osceola County Corrections Department located at 402 Simpson Road in Kissimmee. Upon arrival, deputies spoke with a corrections officer who indicated at approximately 4:05 a.m., he was working in the CE section of the jail which houses closer supervised inmates. The corrections officer heard a loud banging sound and went to investigate. He conducted a check and found everything was secure. He went back to his duties and again heard loud banging which he confirmed was coming from one of the cells. When he

went to check on the security camera, the corrections officer noticed something was blocking the view of cell block 5C. The corrections officer conducted a search of the cell block and found the brick near the door frame was broken and pieces of paint and mortar were in the toilet.The inmate, Hector Luis Campos, was

alone in his cell and told the corrections officer he was sorry. Based on the evidence, Campos was charged with Attempted Escape and Criminal Mischief. Campos was in jail on an unoccupied burglary charge. Hector Luis Campos (DOB 8/14/89), 344 Colony Court, Poinciana

After further investigation, detectives confirmed Bhasin had lied in order to file a false insurance claim. He admitted to detectives he drove to Florida from New Jersey without anything in the truck. Based on the information, Bhasin was arrested and charged with Filing a False Report.
