General Story of the Play: Lizzie lives with her father and two brothers on the family
cattle ranch. There is a drought. Lizzie’s family wants her to get married. She likes a cop
named File, but he doesn’t like her that way. The arrival of a con man named Starbuck
‘rainmaker’, promising to bring rain for $100. Noah tells Lizzie she’ll be alone. Starbuck
appreciates Lizzie, and show’s her how to appreciate herself and have a good self-image.
Lizzie then chooses who she will be with.
Resolution of the MDQ: When Lizzie chooses File over Starbuck, and it starts to rain
outside.
Major Thematic Question(s): Be yourself. Don’t try to be someone else just to get a
person to love you. Sometimes you just need to believe. Have a good self-image.
