24th Sunday in Ordinary Time (Cycle B) You are the Christ!
Pastor’s Corner If Jesus were to ask us what we say of Him, some would repeat acts of faith learned in the church; others would say some pious prayer often recited mechanically; still others would affirm we know Him because we go to church many times; on reflection, perhaps we have never paid much attention to Christ’s real presence among us. Nevertheless, all of us should have a personal experience of Jesus Christ, the attitude of the friend, the confidant; the attitude of the one who loves; the attitude of the one who has come to know Jesus, the Christ, more deeply than any formula or prayer repeated inattentively; the attitude of the one who encounters Christ personally day by day, the one who knows how to immerse himself in prayer, the one who knows how to integrate Jesus’ message in every facet of his life. Those are the ones who have really come to know Jesus. It’s not enough to have read some book of theology or the catechism in order to know something; we must search the Bible to find an answer to the great needs of our life: who am I?, what is the meaning of my life?, what is the universe? The one who finds Christ can only immerse himself in His love and live constantly of Him.
Fr. Federico
P. Federico

Saints this Week/Santos de la Semana
Saint Cyprian, was bishop of Carthage and an important early Christian writer. After his conversion to Christianity, he became a bishop in 249. A controversial figure during his lifetime, his strong pastoral skills, firm conduct during the Novatianist heresy, and eventual martyrdom at Carthage vindicated his reputation. He is considered the pre-eminent Latin writer of Western Christianity until Jerome and Augustine.
St. Cornelius was elected pope in 251 during the persecution of Decius. The main issue of his pontificate was the readmission to the Church of Christians who apostatized (gave up their beliefs) during the persecution. He proclaimed the Church had the authority and the power to forgive repentant lapsi and could readmit them to the sacraments and the Church after they had performed proper penances. Cornelius was exiled to Civita Vecchia during the persecution of Emperor Gallus, and he died a martyr. Both saints share a feast day on September 16. / Ambos santos comparten fiesta el 16 de septiembre.

The POPE SPEAKS/HABLA EL PAPA
Work and the Family
General Audience, August 19, 2015
Work — I repeat, in its many forms — is proper to the human person. It expresses the dignity
of being created in the image of God. Thus, it is said that work is sacred. And thus, managing
one’s occupation is a great human and social responsibility, which cannot be left in the hands of
the few or unladen onto some divinized “market”… When work is detached from God’s
covenant with man and woman, and it is separated from its spiritual qualities, when work is
held hostage by the logic of profit alone and human life is disregarded, the degradation of the
soul contaminates everything... the life of society is corrupted and the habitat breaks down… In this circumstance, Christian families are posed a great challenge and a great mission. They
bring to the field the foundations of God’s Creation: the identity is the bond between man and
woman, the procreation of children, the work which harnesses the earth and renders the
world habitable.

Future City is part of the 8th grade STEM program
at St Hugh. The program starts with a question—
how can we make the world a better place? To
answer it, 8th grade students imagine, research, design, and build cities of the future
that showcase their solution to a citywide sustainability issue. This year’s topic: is
waste management.
Students present their solutions via a virtual city design (using SimCity); a 1,500-word
city description; a scale model; a project plan, and a presentation to judges at Regional
Competitions in January. After the competition is over, student participants are not
only prepared to be citizens of today’s complex and technical world, they are poised
to become the drivers of tomorrow.
Our extensive after school program has started.
It includes a wealth of enrichment activities
that engage our students’ many interests.
Designed to accommodate the needs of
working parents by providing on-site classes
taught by trained and licensed providers, you
can obtain more information contacting Ms.
Ibette Benitez at the school office.
Seminar
