ment of St. Jude’s. We are still in need of volunteers to teach our Religious Ed. program. If you are interested in teaching, or still need to register, please contact Kristen Walsh at [email protected] for more information. Thank you!

Campus Ministry Welcome Students and Parents!

Bible Study ~ Tuesday evenings this semester at

8:00pm in the lounge. See how studying scripture can relate to your life. Wednesday's at 4:00pm in the chapel we will begin "Teach Me to Pray" - each week a different series of meditations and different prayer exercise. Retreat ~ This semesters retreat will be September 18th thru 20th at the Benedictine Monastery in Erie, PA. Please see Chris or Kate V. to sign up.

Annual Clothing Drive Our annual clothing drive will be held during the month of September with a cut off date of September 28th. Please leave gently used clothing in the basement of St. Jude’s or in the entrance area of St. Brendan’s. Sr. Susan's Steuben Rural Health Ministry is always grateful for your generosity and charity. Thank You!

Bible Study at St. Brendan’s Our next 10 week Bible Study session begins on Wednesday, September 30th at 10:00am at St. Brendan's Church and focuses on the BOOK of JAMES. "James presents practical wisdom for living a life of whole-hearted devotion to God in the midst of trails and tribulations. If any single theme runs through this collection of wisdom, it might be the 'perfection' or 'completeness' or 'wholeness' that is the goal of the Chris-tian life and the result of living according to the wisdom of God - as op-posed to the wisdom of the world...James' message speaks loudly today to Christians who must live in a culture that celebrates the double-minded thinking of 'openness' and diversity. As in our previous studies, there are reading assignments and study questions to be answered at home. They will be brought to our group for discussion, followed by DVD presentation by Jeff Cavins. Each session is approximately two hours. Please call 607-324-3775 to sign up. The books are available on Wednesday September 9th and cost $20.

Children’s Church at St. Jude’s Children’s Church is offered to our youngsters of the Parish. Join us on these dates: September 27th, November 8th, November 22nd and De-cember 13th.

Mastering Evil with Good The apostle Paul writes to the Romans: “Bless your persecutors; Never try to get revenge...If your enemy is hungry, give him some-thing to eat; if thirsty, something to drink...Do not be mastered by evil, but master evil with good” (Romans 12:14-21). These words cut to the heart of the spiritual life. They make it clear what it means to choose life, not death, to choose blessings not curses. But what is asked of us here goes against the grain of our human nature, We will only be able to act according to Paul’s words by knowing with our whole beings that what we are asked to do for others is what God has done for us.

Choosing Life God says, "I am offering you life or death, blessing or curse. Choose life, then, so that you and your descendants may live" (Deuteronomy 30:19) "Choose life." That's God's call for us, and there is not a mo-ment in which we do not have to make that choice. Life and death are always before us. In our imaginations, our thoughts, our words, our gestures, our actions ... even in our non-actions. This choice for life starts in a deep interior place. Underneath very life-affirming behav-ior I can still harbor death-thoughts and death-feelings. The most important question is not "Do I kill?" but "Do I carry a blessing in my heart or a curse?" The bullet that kills is only the final instrument of the hatred that began being nurtured in the heart long before the

gun was picked up.

Hello again to the South-Eastern Allegany Catholic Communities. This week we celebrate the 23rd Sunday of Ordinary Time and let us always remember that “this is the day that the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad!” Happy Labor Day to all! I hope your holiday is filled with great joy and spent with the people whom you

love, your family and friends. We give thanks to God for our talents so we may continue to use them to support our family and com-munity and for the betterment of our society and to promote Human Dignity through our work.

Welcome back to the facility, staff and students of Alfred University, Alfred State and Immaculate Conception School! You have been missed. I hope your summer was one of relaxation, prayer and great fellowship. Alfred Students, you should check out the many opportunities at St. Jude’s Chapel to deepen your relationship with God, fellow students and parishioners. You are always wel-come to spend time with us at any of the five parish cluster. RCIA classes will also begin soon. RCIA stands for Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults. It is the process which the Church has established to help lead people closer Christ. How do I know if this is for me? Ask yourself: Are you….?

Are you someone not affiliated with the Catholic Church but seeking to join the Catholic Community?

Are you someone who may be baptized into another faith tradition and is interested in the Catholic faith?

Are you someone who has been baptized but have not received the Sacraments of Eucharist or Confirmation?

Are you someone who is baptized Catholic, know a little about the faith and desire to really know what being Catholic is all about?

Are you someone who knows someone who needs a “little nudge” from asking: “Have you ever thought about becoming a Catho-lic?” If you have answered “YES” to any of these questions, the RCIA process is for you. If you are interested, please contact your parish office.

Mark Your Calendars: Great News, Bishop, Richard Malone will celebrate the Confirmation Mass on Sunday, October 11th at Immaculate Conception Church at 3:00pm. Let us welcome him to Allegany Vicariate with great rejoicing, plus congratulate all those bring Confirmed this year! We also want to welcome our seminarian Jerry Skrzynski to our parish communities. Jerry will be with us for 10 months for his Pastoral Year which is required by the Diocese of Buffalo for all those studying for the priesthood. He will be serving on many of our ministries throughout the year. Please welcome him with great joy.

Forgiveness

"Our will -freely choosing to hold on to anger, bitterness, resentment, and hostility - becomes an impenetrable fortress preventing God's life

from entering our heart, which, through the privation of grace, becomes stony, hard, and cold. This interior reality eventually affects all aspects

of our being."

~Johnnette Benkovic

That is all for this week. May God continue to shower His blessings upon you! Pax Christi, Fr Sean
