Welcome to the Maricopa Skill Center.

We are proud of our rich history, which spans more than 50 years, and our mission to provide the best hands-on training to our Valley’s workforce. Our mission is as true today as it was then, and we are making a number of adjustments to ensure we can adapt our programs to changing demands.

This year, we are working to more closely integrate with GateWay Community College, a college of whom we have been a division of for nearly 30 years. This integration aims to provide more aligned business processes and practices where it makes sense, increased student services, and possibly for-credit programs at multiple locations.

CLASSROOM ENVIRONMENTThe classroom environment at MSC is designed for student success. Working in hands-on lab environments that simulate the workplace, students gain the experience and confidence needed to work upon graduation.

DISABILITY RESOURCE SERVICESContact Disability Resource Services (DRS) to schedule your Disability Review two weeks prior to enrollment for equal access to support while testing and for program accommodations. All accommoda-tions are based on the student’s individual needs from their documentation. GED PREPARATIONMSC offers on-site GED preparation classes. Classes are at low or no cost to MSC students and members of the community. To participate, contact the Essential Skills Department in person or by phone at 602-238-0023.

SKILL BASED TRAININGStudents move through each program as a cohort and learn the skills required by future employers. Each program is continuously updated to meet the evolving needs of today’s workforce.

SOFT SKILLSThis component of each program focuses on the non-technical skills that round out a student’s training. Primary topics discussed include: communication, conflict management, diversity, ethics, teamwork, time management, professional behavior and values. Each area is critical to producing more employable students.

VETERAN SERVICES MSC is a G.I. Jobs Military Friendly School and a Serviceman Opportunity College dedicated to facilitating veteran success. Whether it is providing community resources, integrating programs or helping veterans achieve their educational goals, MSC is committed to serving those who served our country.

WORKFORCE CENTERMSC Workforce Development and Goodwill staff provide free employment readiness services to attending students as well as the public in the Workforce Center located on campus. Services include: online job application training, job search training, resume writing, mock interviews, employer recruitment and hiring events.

Financial Aid workshops are held approximately the first and third Thursday of the month from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. at MSC’s Buckeye Campus.

Please note that programs under 600 hours are ineligible for financial aid.

TUITION AND FEES AT A GLANCERegistration: $15.00Non-refundable fee charge per term of attendance.

Tuition: $5.00 to $6.00 hourly rate for programs.

Lab Fees: Cover the cost of all consumable materials used in each training program and varies by program.

Book Fees: Reflect the cost of the textbooks at the time of purchase and are subject to change without notice.

Other Fees: Some programs require students to purchase clothing, special equipment and/or take licensing and certification tests not included in the cost of the program.

Common reasons why we may not receive a FAFSA are: if the FAFSA aid year completed is wrong, if the FAFSA is not fully completed or is not signed, or if our school code (E00701 ) is not included. It is thestudent’s responsibility to follow up on financial aid.

4. RECEIVE YOUR STUDENT AID REPORTWhen your FAFSA is fully completed with all required documentation, your application will be processed. You will receive confirmation and a link to view your Student Aid Report (SAR). Make sure to review your SAR for any corrections or updates that may be needed.

5. FRIENDLY REMINDERSKeep your FSA ID and password in a safe place for future reference (http://www.pin.ed.gov).

Once enrolled, check your student center and official student email account for updates regarding your financial aid.

For Maricopa Skill Center students who receive Financial Aid, your Financial Aid award is based on the hours listed for your program in the catalog, and your eligibility is recalculated at graduation. In other words, if you graduate with fewer hours than indicated in the catalog for your program, or with fewer hours than Financial Aid was based on, your Financial Aid award will be reduced accordingly. If funds have already been disbursed and/or refunded to you, you could owe a debt that would need to be cleared before you are eligible for graduation.

AESTHETICIAN - CERT. #1180, 2180, 2183***Aestheticians are trained skin care professionals who specialize in providing skin care and beauty-related services. As an aesthetician, you will perform facials, skin analysis, and body treatments, including full body exfoliation. You will also learn hair removal techniques using both hard and soft wax, light exfoliation with fruit acids (peels), and microdermabrasion. Training includes day and evening makeup and false eyelash application. Knowledge of State laws pertaining to aesthetics and business management skills also will be covered.

Average Completion Time: 6.8 months / 660 hours*Estimated Program Cost: $4,036**

AESTHETICIAN INSTRUCTOR - CERT. #1186, 2186As an aesthetician student instructor, you will prepare to provide instruction in skin and beauty-related services, such as facials, skin analysis, body treatments and full body exfoliation. Additionally, you will learn how to write and deliver a successful lesson plan. Topics also include knowledge of laws pertaining to aesthetician, safety and sanitation and state board regulations. Upon completion of the Aesthetician I nstructor program, you will be prepared to take the Arizona Board of Cosmetology Instructor licensing exam.

MASSAGE THERAPY - CERT. #1184Focus is placed on the structural massage - the ability to couple and apply deep understanding of anatomy with powerful tissue sculpting techniques in order to create radical change in the body. While the program centers heavily on anatomy, Swedish and Deep Tissue massage, students get some exposure to Asian modalities, Sports Massage, Pregnancy Massage and business classes.

Beauty & Wellness programs are available at all skill center locations; however, the Massage Therapy program is available only at the Maricopa Skill Center Northwest-Campus.

COSMETOLOGIST - CERT. #1181, 2181, 2182, 2281***As a cosmetologist, you will provide beauty services such as shampooing and conditioning, cutting, perming and styling hair. Additionally, you will braid, press, curl and relax hair; design hairstyles; and provide nail and skin services. All work will be performed safely using proper disinfection and sanitation techniques. You will graduate from the program with the skills necessary for establishing and maintaining a clientele in addition to the knowledge needed to start and manage your own salon. Upon completion of the program, you will be prepared to take the Arizona Board of Cosmetology licensing exam.

Average Completion Time: 16.6 months / 1660 hours*Estimated Program Cost: $9,547**

Additionally, you will braid, press, curl and relax hair; design hairstyles; and provide nail and skin services. With the express aesthetics class you will get a kit for aestheticians and go into the basics of European facials, skin analysis, skin history and disorders. You will also learn products, waxing and body treatments.

COMPUTER SUPPORT SPECIALIST - CERT. #1611As a Computer Support Specialist, you will support desktop computers, printers, mobile devices, networks, popular applications and operating systems. You will provide end-users and companies with solutions for technical problems to be able to conduct business in today’s high-tech environment. You will be prepared to take the IC3 certification exam and the CompTIA A+ certification exam, both industry standard certifications for entry-level positions, which also provides a solid foundation for advanced technical certifications. You may receive college credits toward your degree at participating Maricopa Community Colleges.

Computer Support Specialist is only offered at Maricopa Skill Center-Buckeye Campus

MSC’s Enrichment Courses are designed to provide quick, highly-targeted skill training. Whether you are looking to brush up on skills or try something new, MSC’s Enrichment Courses offer you an affordable and easy way to enhance your knowledge.

CALL CENTER REPRESENTATIVE - CERT. #1200The Call Center Representative Program is ashort-term technical program that provides participants with the knowledge and skills needed to work in the fast paced modern call center environment. Students will gain the knowledge and skills to effectively deal with customers found in many areas of business, including manufacturing, banking, retail stores, tourism, and hospitals. Upon successful completion of the program, students will be prepared for an industry recognized credential and to enter the workforce with confidence.

CERTIFIED CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE/CALL CENTER REPRESENTATIVE - CERT. #1202As a Customer Service/Call Center Representative, you will work on state of the art equipment to gain an understanding of how to communicate via voice as well as other modalities of communication. You will develop communication skills to listen and respond to customer needs. Skills will be developed in an actual lab with hands-on and practical experience.

CALL CENTER CAREERS - CERT. #1210This Program provides an investigation into the world of call center careers and is designed to help students understand the customer service concepts and issues which will support their careers, their personal growth and their working lives. Students will learn about the most important call center operational functions and hear about the “what” and “why” of call center performance expectations. Students who successfully complete the program will be prepared for an industry recognized credential.

CALL CENTER MANAGEMENT - CERT. #1205The certified customer service/call center program is designed for call center and service agents in a call center environment. The area will focus on management techniques to help you be successful in the call center environment. It will show how to respond to employee needs, give employee evaluations and structure in the call center.

NURSING ASSISTANT - CERT. #1506Nursing Assistants (NAs) are trained to perform basic patient care under the supervision of registered nurses and/or licensed practical nurses. Nursing Assistants perform routine tasks in the general care of hospital, clinic and nursing home patients. Their work responsibilities include measuring vital signs and assisting patients with daily living activities, such as feeding, bathing, dressing, moving and/or grooming patients; changing linens; taking vital signs; answering calls, transporting patients; and storing or sterilizing equipment. The Nurse Assistant occupation is one of a series of possible steps on a career ladder in the healthcare field.

Average Completion Time: 2 months / 198 hours*Estimated Program Cost: $1,225**

NURSING ASSISTANT / PATIENT CARE TECHNICIANCERT. #1503Patient Care Technicians expands the Nursing Assistant role further with additional training in several areas, including EKG, phlebotomy and an introduction to physical therapy. Nursing Assistants are trained to perform basic patient care under the supervision of registered nurses or licensed practical nurses. Patient Care Technicians receive additional training that expands the traditional role of nursing assistant. Training includes an increase in supervised clinical hours, a home health component and caring for hospital patients component.

CLINICAL LAB ASSISTANT - CERT. #1404As a clinical lab assistant, you will specialize in conducting medical tests on specimens and samples. Lab assistants work in clinics, doctor’s offices and hospitals, performing various laboratory and clinical tasks. Some of these tasks include taking medical histories and recording vital signs, explaining procedures, preparing patients for procedures, and assisting physicians during blood drawings and sample collections. Additional tasks include preparing and analyzing specimens, performing basic tests, disposing of contaminated supplies, and sterilizing medical instruments.

OPHTHALMIC ASSISTANT- CERT. #1501The Ophthalmic Assistant program serves as your initial education program for learning and understanding the core level of care for entry into eye care in a clinical/office setting. The course includes an overview of patient services and even assisting with minor surgical procedures and instrument care and maintenance. Special attention will be given to complete comprehensive eye examinations, including chief complaints and history taking, anatomy and physiology of the visual system, eye terminology, general medical knowledge, as well as hands on skill instruction.

This program is accredited by the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO) through 2018.

Average Completion Time: 7.3 months / 702 hours*Estimated Program Cost: $3,684**

PHLEBOTOMY - CERT. #1403The Phlebotomy program prepares students to correctly and safely obtain blood specimens and other bodily fluids, process specimens for laboratories, and use computers to record patient information in various healthcare settings. In addition to organization and attention to detail, phlebotomists should have good human relations and customer service skills.

Average Completion Time: 2.6 months / 252 hours*Estimated Program Cost: $1,451**

PATIENT CARE TECH W/ ADVANCED SKILLSCERT. #1504These professionals must possess the technical skills necessary to service complex patient care issues including rehabilitation services, diagnostic tests, basic bedside care, collection of laboratory specimens, phlebotomy and EKG’s. In addition to labs requiring students to practice and demonstrate EKG, phlebotomy and base line buring skills. Other topics covered include: HIPAA, vital signs, patient care, personal hygiene, aseptic techniques.

Average Completion Time: 7.1 months / 681 hours*Estimated Program Cost: $3,826**

PHARMACY TECHNICIAN - CERT. #1405Pharmacy technicians are constantly growing and evolving in the field of healthcare and prescription medicine while maintaining a stable and straightforward work environment. As a certified pharmacy technician, you are the liaison between medical professionals, doctors, pharmacists, insurance companies and patients. You will receive and verify prescriptions and prepare patient medication.

AUTO BODY BASIC - CERT. #1605Apprentice painters, Auto Body Technicians, and Transportation Equipment Painter helpers are skilled painting and coating workers. The Auto Body Basics Program will introduce students to the Collision industry and is designed for the hobbyist who wants to learn about Auto Body Repair. By taking this program, you may decide to advance into the full program where you will be able to work on your own vehicles. You will graduate with I-CAR Certificates, an international industry-recognized certification.

Average Completion Time: 4.1 months / 392 hours*Estimated Program Cost: $3,424**

AUTO BODY WORKER - CERT. #1606As an Auto Body Worker, you will learn to weld, push out dents, repair plastic bumpers, apply plastic fillers, remove and install bolted-on parts in order to repair damaged vehicles. Emphasis is placed on preparing vehicles for painting, mixing paints, and performing intricate work with manual spray guns. You will also become proficient at masking, sanding, and buffing vehicles in addition to color matching paint. Students are also trained in shop safety, as well as how to work with hazardous materials. You will graduate with I-CAR Certificates, an international industry-recognized certification.

ELECTRICIAN WORKER LEVEL 2 - CERT. #1663The training includes practical hands-on experience, knowledge of electricity, manual and power tool us-age, installation practices, and NEC code standards. The MSC Trades program will also introduce students to Green Technology - green alternatives to construc-tion. Upon completion of this program students will earn their Core Curriculum certificate, OSHA 10 card for construction and Electrical Level 1 and Level 2 certificates from the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER).

Average Completion Time: 7.2 months / 696 hours*Estimated Program Cost: $4,881**

CARPENTRY LEVEL 2 - CERT. #1653Carpenters are involved in many different kinds of construction activities including erecting, installing or repairing structures and fixtures made of wood, or concrete forms and building frameworks, rafts, partitions, wood stairways, window or door frames, and more. Upon completion of this program, students will earn their Core Curriculum Certificate, OSHA 10 card for construction, and Carpentry Level 1 and 2 Certificate from the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER).

CARPENTRY LEVEL 1 - CERT. #1642Become a member of one of the oldest most respected trades. As a carpenter, you will be working with tools to create a variety of things. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONSQ: How long does it take to finish a program?A: Program length varies depending on the career path you are pursuing. Most programs can be completed under a year. Contact Student Services at 602-238-4350 for additional information.

Q: Do I need a High School Diploma or GED to enroll?A: No, you do not. However, effective July 1, 2012, changes in federal funding require students to have a high school diploma or GED in order to receive aid. If you do not have a high school diploma or GED, MSC offers free GED workshops to current and potential students. Contact us at 602-286-8050 for more information about the program.

Q: How old do I have to be to start school?A: Many employers who hire our graduates require employees to be 18 years or older. Depending on the program, students need to be at least 17 years old to ensure they are eligible for hire upon graduation.
